Let's not forget Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. The 80s and 90s (and a bit onward with Poirot) were the high water mark for detective fiction television adaptations.

Joan Hickson was the essential Miss Marple . Her portrayal was just perfect & in my opinion, exactly what Agatha Christie invisioned when she created the character. I watched all different versions of the dotting senior detective, from Rutherford to MacKenzie & none can ever come close to Joan Hickson. She is without a doubt my favorit, even beating my second favorite ( Jessica Fletcher ), who also was Miss Marple in the Mirror Cracked 1980..Joan Hickson's theme music for Miss Marple is just superb ...Joan Hickson 10/10..🙂

I used to wait for this program in front of TV at night with rapid heartbeating when I was kid.
Somehow, I got used to English things, and went to study to England and met my wife staying next door. Oldery ladies around us were like matchmakers, they tried to connect me and wife which is almost same characters and atmosphere in that drama.
I didn't know my life where to go when I watched this..but I know life led me to the door where beautiful people live. Really appreciate..really speechless to this program..so meaningful to me.

This is nostalgic to me because my mom was really into Agatha Christie novels and the shows made from them. i remember she would get the sets from the local library and also when possible buy the dvds in the early and mid 2000s. It's nostalgic because to me it was a happier time and nowadays I don't really see that side of her anymore. It's sad but at least the memory of her being happy is still there.

When Inspector Slack heard her name he cringed, his look said it all. Oh dear. And all she ever wanted out of it as a reward was, well, perhaps another cup of tea. God bless your dear old Blighty.

this tune used to turn my head as an eight year old. first time hearing an oboe possibly. or is it an English horn. I don't even know the difference right now. I used to hear this tune while playing with toy cars in a living room while my parents were watching tv. whenever I heard it I froze, transfixed. it doesn't involve nostalgia. just a good tune. a lot of old tv shows had memorable themes. even magnum pi.

The instrument is definitely an oboe. I am an amateur string player in an orchestra and possess perfect pitch, so know about these things. Theme tune is in C major. The English Horn or, as it is better known, Cor Anglais, plays a fifth below the oboe and its range is therefore lower.
