I really need to circle back and watch her Shyamalan-produced Apple TV+ horror series, “Servant”; I saw most of the first season way back when.
Most people keep talking about the “graphic” birth scenes, but I have yet to see someone mention the car accident “look for the mark” scene…freaky AF! That scene had me literally laughing out loud but also stunned at the same time. And honorable mention here - the laugh coming from the dark corner in the room…creeped out for life!
After blumhouse basically dominating theatres for the past few months with bad films, it’s great to hear that this film is getting good reviews

The cinematography knocked me out. They nailed the look and feel of the original in ways I didn’t think possible.
The 7 minute one shot scene that is an homage to possession of nell was intense and made me a full believer of nell as an actress. I liked her before this movie but now I fully see how great she actually is.

awesome review, Mike! i agree a lot with pretty much everything you said. Father Brennan was incredible, and made me feel like we were in the 70s! it was disturbing, but pushed limits you don't really see anymore in horror these days. thank you again.~~

Really enjoyed this one. The style and visuals were insane. I was a bit apprehensive of seeing this in cinemas cause I didn’t like immaculate.. but this one was definitely more engaging

The First Omen is one of my newest favorite horror movie of 2024, and it's one of the best horror movie since between Eli Roth's Thanksgiving and Evil Dead Rise.

I found out they didn’t COMPLETELY edit out the jackal theory.. It sorta sounds like “Rosemary’s Baby”
but now what i want to know is since Father Brennen is in this, what about Mrs Baylock, Father Spilitto and Carl Buganhagen?
Just saw it last night. What I really appreciated was that they didn’t “evil dies tonight” the hell out of it. They had a scene with the protesters, then the riot scene, and that was pretty much it. Felt like the pacing overall was pretty solid and they focused on giving us what we really wanted to see.

I think you should do a video of you ranking horror movie prequels. Some examples like: Psycho 4, (if you can count it) Pearl, Saw X, (if you count it) Leatherface, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Hellraiser: Bloodlines, (since it jumps through time) Pet Semetery: Bloodlines and Hannibal Rising which is one I heard about. I might have missed some but feel free to list some more if you like.
Also, I want to shoutout the marketing for the movie because they had some pretty good posters and it had some pretty good tv spots like the tv spot tailer looking like one of those old school trailers from the 70s and 80s, and the gender reveal party tv spot they released a few days ago. Also, I think people should not be worried about this movie being bad because Fox was bought by Disney. Those property's Fox has like Alien and Predator are still owned by Fox even though Disney bought the company.
I have a question have you seen Immaculate yet and will you do a review on it?

Seeing the full demon or ghost greatly diminishes how scary it is. Totally for it not being fully revealed.
Went and seen it yesterday with my brother. He is a casual movie goer and said it was boring. I thought some parts were boring but I enjoyed a lot of what they were trying to do. Cinematography was the best part about this movie I thought
Loved it, I think it’s possibly one of the best horror prequels ever made, at least in recent memory. Can’t wait to hear J’s thoughts on it when he sees it

So I'm guessing the jackal is the daddy now? It'd also be very interesting to see Damien's sister turn out to be the good twin and eventually wipe 3 out of the canon and have the face off in sone way.
Would be a wicked twist if the “Lamb” and the “Beast” are siblings.
By the end of the film i completely forgot about the jackal and didn't care lol. It was a great drama horror film

Yes I thoroughly enjoyed it, besides the set up sequel ending I have no real complaints. Where they left off makes me think we will have a super women team up vs the evil man

Be really cool to see sequels like you suggested Im down for that. Also a good part of a sequel would be to show the world go to hell as Damien tales over Thorn industries which is an element we never really got in the original trilogy and would add to the world building amd sense of peril.
For example lots of famine, poverty, crime and comflict across the globe as we approach the time line of the final conflict.
Brooo...this movie was just awesome...reminded me of Exorcist, Suspiria and Jacobs Ladder with the aspect of The Omen...This movie tested me. It was 2 hours of pure horror. The birth scene made two women leave the movie...i can understand why people would leave the movie, its 2 hours of horror and it's uncomfortable, people were expecting it to be the typical Blumhouse Nun or Annabelle 😂 oh and i hated Immaculate lol

Your idea could have technically worked Mike if they went with a darker ending. She could have killed the baby, they kill her, but I think that young outcast girl was the next in line to be impregnated so she technically could have given birth to Damien and the omen movies could have stayed intact as sick as that sounds.

Walked out of this one super impressed! Thought it was a really solid movie, even without the Omen storyline basis. Some parts actually made me jump 😂 ! Overall a super fun experience!

I think the reason this movie is as good as it is, is because of the director and because of nell tiger. Nell had a lot of praise for the director and she also knew of her before filming and said that she signed on to the movie because of the director and that she trusted the director fully.
This movie definitely goes hard in the taint.

Btw, I watched NightSwim on peacock last night and …. By far not only one of the worst movies of the year, I would go so far as to say one of the worst movies this decade. Awful- in EVERY why, every position behind and in front of the camera and script were atrocious.

The original was scary as fk. Hard for me to watch still this very day. Especially the hospital kill scene.
Hmmmm...my problem with the jackal situation is that the original is very clear that Damien's MOTHER was a jackal. Not the father. 😕

Sadly I wasn’t a fan. I never liked the original. I wasn’t interested in this because I’m generally not interested in religious horror, but my dad wanted to see it and I heard great things so I thought I’d give it a shot. Sadly it was everything I expected it to be. It’s obviously just not for me.

Prediction:
If this movie gets sequels, they'll retcon Omen II and III and go further into Damian's rise to power as the Beast, taking power in the political theatre and bringing about the End of Days.
But in an ironic and karmic twist, Margaret's daughter is blessed and destined to be the "Lamb" that will overcome the "Beast" that is her brother.

This movie was hyped up a lot for me so I was expecting to be wowed. Unfortunately I wasn't but it definitely wasn't a bad movie. A very mixed bag for me. Questionable third act script issues and i think i would of shaved off 20 minutes, especially the whole misdirect of the younger girl being the mother. What do you prefer Mike? Immaculate or this film?
I haven't had a chance to see Immaculate yet but I plan to. And I agree that this is a movie you shouldn't go in overhyped for. I think that will ruin it for a lot of people. It was good at what it was doing but it was no world beater.

I was kind of taken out by the extreme close up shots of the eyes near the end, I think blatant homages to Texas Chainsaw Massacre are getting overdone at this point. The actress was definitely great though

It's literally better than the last three ddg movies combined no exaggeration, and if you're a true OG shape fan like I know you are, then not only will you love it like me, but if you don't watch it you're missing out on one of the most awesome things you could stumble upon in your life

I genuinely dont get all the praise this movie is getting. Am I going crazy for expecting a prequel to stick to the established lore? There's no sense of looming threat. No omnipresent being watching over our protagonist. None of the death scenes have any of the gravitas I'd expect from an omen film and the lazy rehash of the 'All for you Damien' scene serves absolutely zero purpose either thematically or in terms of story. Oh but she sets fire to herself too. So it's new.
Why not just do a self immolation scene? Then at least you're not doing just a tired, lazy callback AND you could actually tie the death into the story somehow

Accidents happen but there is no follow up that would normally happen
I would have made the scene where the father lost part of his brain more realistic with the roof workers panicking and coming to his aid
I will have included Mrs blaylock as the caregiver to Carlita and had her play a Minor role.
I would have made the scene where a beasts hand come out of the vagina a dream sequence rather than reality
I would have had Margaret give birth to a jackal and inside the jackal is Damien only
I would have shown the devil in a non CGI form during the impregnation scene.
I would not have let Margaret or her sister live and have the alternative scene with the twin sister exist. Because this would not explain the antichrist exist with a twin sister, aunt and mother that is aware of his existence and have them live the rest of their days in an isolated house. Oh and how did father Brennan find them.
The reasoning for the antichrist birth should be about Armageddon not to scare people back to church considering the purpose of the antichrist which is to wreak hell on Earth.
I would have had Father Brennan witness the birth of Damien as that is what he claimed he saw Damien 's mother.
I would have cut out any long drawn out scenes and made it a 1.5 hour movie
What about Father Brennan's 666?

I have to disagree i watched it with all my horror movie Fanatics friends and we all thought it was Terrible ..Boring slow not scary nothing new that has not been done .The Acting was good ill say that and maybe the last act was ok otherwise just show up for the last 15 minutes .Id never watch it again not even close to any of the originals sorry bro stay well
