Hello Peter just a note I had purchased pollen sub from Mannlake two times . The first was a lighter color and the second purchase was a dark color. When I made pollen patties the first time with the light color it worked out just right then with the second time using the dark pollen sub to make patties they were really wet using the same mixture I had to add maybe a pound to a pound and a half more of the dark color sub to get it back thicker. I do not know what the difference there was but there are something different in it . Just thought I would let everyone know. As always thanks for your video’s and information.
Great job, it shows me, I can make these on my own. Even though harder, Easier with help. Not everyone has a second Pair of hands, Looks like a great receipe Though. Thanku😊
Thanks for the tips. I usually just add 1 to 1 syrup with pollen substitute plus some honey bee healthy until I get a good consistency but I will try some oil and gelatin this time.
Mom's trick, put the jelly in a smaller bowl along with some hot water. Let it "bloom" for about 5 to 10 minutes before adding to the main recipe. Cuts down on stirring. I have no honey bee healthy on hand. Any thoughts on adding just a bit of lemon grass oil and or Thymol? Thank you Peter.
I love the new jig - it looks like a much easier (and cleaner) job than last year's process. Do you think your nucs and singles have enough honey to start feeding now, or just the doubles? The NWS long-term forecast suggests we might have an early spring. Do you take that into account when deciding when to start adding pollen patties?
Smaller hives usually have smaller clusters and the proportion of food still to be used seems similar. But I am sure that is not universal. But yes, I try to take as many things into consideration as I can, but best to ere on the side of caution.
Hi peter, thanks for your video. By way of a follow up, how palatable did your bees find this patty recipe last Spring? Are you making any changes for this Spring. Best Regards Frazer (UK)
Ha Peter I like the idea of the bags what si e are they I am and have been feeding the patties for 3 weeks the bees are doing good sorry about the spelling some of the keys stick on this old computer thanks and have a blessed day.
Hi Peter, I just watched a very interesting interview conducted by "A Canadian Beekeepers Blog" (30th April) and have swapped to flaxseed oil instead of canola as a result. Might be of use to you :) I could post the link but felt it was a bit disrespectful to post links to someone else's channel in your comments section. Let me know if you'd like it.
If you have kept it frozen or dried I would imagine it would work very well. Be aware that pollen can spoil so use it quickly.....and they are for Spring feeding NOT Fall.
I'm going to try to make some Queens I have drones out walking on the cones so what time the Queen's hatch the drone should be flying maybe I can make some early Queens my first time trying it . Matter as well do it different than everybody else.lol
I thought the same thing. Use the same method as if you were making Jell-O on the stove...then devolve the sugar in the rest of the hot water. Mix the two together.
Thanks for the video, very useful information

I have heard that they changed their recipe then changed back or some such thing...thanks for the heads up and lets hope they get their act together.

Yes that worked fine but this should lead to a little less wasted.
Thanks for useful video.
Where can I find the mixing rod on your drill?
In the paint dept of home improvement stores.

Thanks for the tip, I am reluctant even to add much Honey be Healthy so would be even more reticent to ad those, add extra stuff with extreme care.

Worked for me

Haha my last laptop did that. I think they are 5"x7"
What is the best way to store the patties that you won't be using immediately?
They can be frozen for longer term storage but keep them cool dry and wrapped in plastic they should be fine for some time
I will have my first hive this year so do you have how much do I need to make for one hiver.
Sugar syrup is more important. Pollen patties should be used with caution especially in areas of small hive beetles. iIf in doubt, dont use them.
What if your hive has no honey stores, and is only using fondant?
Then keep the fondant coming and do not feed pollen patties till you can feed syrup with the weather above 50 daytime and above 40 night time.
@@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer thank you!
Where do you find wax paper bags
Amazon
What do you call the bags? Where to get them? Thanks
I believe just look up wax paper bags on Amazon
How many patties did your mixture make?
Approx 25-30 patties, weight not constant!
Ok thank you Peter. I need to get mine started shortly. I'm hoping to get mine ready and on by next month.

I watch all of Ian's videos! Thanks for the offer.
Hello. can i use my own pollen that i collected in the spring in the recipe? it's the same; will there be any problem? thanks

Good luck, sounds like the time has arrived where you are.
@@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer yes I had one Virgin Queen come back and she started laying
Who made the first pollen panties
Intriguing question!!!
one or two lb, per hives and thank you
I put in a bit less but add more frequently.
@@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer thank you
Devolve the packages of gelatin in a smaller container of boiling water then add the rest of the water.
Good tip
Lecithin??????
What's your question?
boiling water in a plastic bucket!? 🤦
It’s not an ice cream bucket, I’m sure it’s ok. 🙄
