As a small electronics repair shop owner, there's nothing headache-inducing than seeing a torx screw on one of the laptops I'm about to repair fir the first time. I've been repairing laptops and gadgets for almost a year now, and this is the first time I saw a torx screw on a device in person. It almost got me in deep stressful trouble that I thought I have a complete set of repair tools until these came along. I had to delay the repair for a few more days since I have to rather order online, or go find the nearest shop to get one, which is miles away from home and the shop.
Sir, you helped me today. Instead of buying a tiny Torx to remove the pocket clip from a knife, I rummaged through my Allen wrenches and found that my smallest one fit perfectly. Thanks for your video.
Thank you so much. This saved me a huge hassle. I'm just replacing some upholstery on a center console... Have no idea why Torx screws were necessary, but a hex got them out just fine.
I was in an emergency and didn't have the torx, used the right size flat and I did it, exactly as you showed here. A good thing for anybody this one that you showed in your video.
It worked for Torx screws for me with the most torque provided with a flat screwdriver bit in a power tool! Initially, these 2 methods didn't work. The flat screwdrivers with plastic handles would be about to break. I checked both metric and imperial hex key sets one by one, all new, but not enough torque to turn small (about 2.5 mm size) star screws. They were catching a little bit, but then slide, as if the screws were stripped. I eventually found a flat bit of just the right size that worked for resistant Torx screws after soaked the screws with WD-40 and waited for 20 min. Thank you!
@@TheLabOtomy Do you know where I can purchase a manual on my exact car: 2015 Buick Regal 2.4L base model? And, do you know where the fuel pressure regulator on it is? I hope its not in the tank. Its needs a crankshaft sensor and fuel pressure regulator says the dealership. They want $1700.00 for parts and labor. Their nuts. I may be able to do it myself. I just have to locate the old crankshaft sensor and the fuel pressure regulator. Sense you a a top mechanic could please tell me where these parts are located on the Buick? Thanks
Thank you for this video! I am actually trying to open my PS3 to get the dust from off the inside. The side has a star screw and frustrated me. A small flathead screw driver did the trick! Thank you!
The LabOtomy Thank you! I cleaned it but it still has that red light of death. I think I may need to try a tougher vacuum to carefully suck dust out of smaller inner areas behind the vents inside. If that doesn't work, then gotta get a new PS3 (I still have PS3 games I haven't finished) and eventually get a PS4.
These methods work if the Torx screw isn't stuck, so if these methods fail to let you remove the screw, use a rotary tool (like a Dremel) and a small cutting disc and cut a slot wide enough and deep enough across the head to get a big flat screwdriver blade across both slots, and you can generate the torque necessary to remove a stuck Torx screw.
Flat head on a torx ONLY works when the flat head fits perfectly in the groove. Same with the hex bit, only if it fits snugly in the grove and you dont need much power to break loose ...
ok so.. what do I do with a torx screw that's smaller than 1,5 millimeters and requires a lot of torque. I don't have such a molecular sized torx screwdriver
Reminds me a bit of the gearshifter bolts on the ford type 9 gearbox. Torx and very tight. Every time I have to undo one, I don’t even bother with the torx driver - they are always too tight and strip out the driver. I use a chisel now to undo them + and fit normal bolts afterward...
You beautiful man, spent a good 20 minutes trying to use a flat head and failing miserably, came loose in two seconds with the allen key, like the editing too 👍
Sounds like a typical manufacturer that wants you to buy a new product rather than fixing it yourself... as mentioned, one option could be to drill the peg out without damaging the torx bit. Not sure however if you have the tools to do that.
I didn't see a smartphone. What happens if you take a very small amount of Araldite ARA-400010 adhesive and glue a very very small nut to the rounded out torx screw head on a smart phone. And let it sit overnight?
Thanks for the help. Trying to take apart a dead hard drive so I can physically wipe it into oblivion (electronics stopped working). However, if you need to put them back in I would recommend getting a quality torx set just so they don’t get stripped.
I was trying to open my dewalt battery charger and it looked like a standard Torx screw, i have several torx bit sizes and NONE would fit, come to find out it was not a standard torx screw but a security torx which had the opening in the middle and the screw had that hump in the center to fit the opening on the bit ... Basturds using a torx security screw ... really dewalt, its a fuking $40 charger, not a $6000 hybrid state of the art brushless blah blah drill ...

It's not so much they are bad but why tf did my dewalt $100 set not come with these? I believe these star ones are less likely to strip

Used a Allen wrench, stripped the bolt so good.....
what size was the flathead?
It depends on the size of the Torx screw, so find a flathead screwdriver that fits tightly in the space between 2 spikes diametrically opposed

the allen wrench works but put a rubber band on it first so you don't strip the screw if a lot of torque is needed

I could also try it on one that is impossible to remove and then it would be impossible to remove
