73 year old addicted minecraft player here. My oldest grandson is to blame for introducing me to MInecraft 2 years ago. One tip for when you ever decide to go back to the Nether. Go with a good bow and if facing Ghast use your bow to shoot them, don't try to get close to them and use your sword. Of course, if you have good timing you can hit their fireballs with the sword and send it back to them. If you hit them that way, you will get the Return to Sender advancement.
Notes on game mechanics: 1. It should *always* stop raining after you sleep. You're correct about it being a bug. Reloading the world (save & quit) should fix it. 2. Game-generated leaves (as opposed to those you place yourself) have a chance to despawn every game tick, but ONLY when there are no logs within 4 blocks of them. If you see a floating canopy that isn't disintegrating, it's either because there's still a log near it or because you haven't been spending enough time near it. 3. At 30:15 you took your boat close to a zombie in the water. Mobs will always jump into a regular (non-chest) boat if it's next to them, even if you're already in it. That would leave you with a zombie attacking you from behind and you wouldn't be able to turn around far enough to defend yourself-you'd have to jump out of the boat. It's best to not get too close to hostile mobs while riding a boat.
You can use boats to transport zombies for reasons... Not all zombie Steve's are bad steves. Zombie Steve might actually help you get better trades. or convert all your villagers to his own kind.
The process of getting gear again is so difficult at this stage of the game. Really happy to see you pushing through and not being too afraid to go back in the nether immediately!
I'm probably going to move the nether portal to hopefully find a less terrible place to spawn in, and hopefully away from a cliff. But yes, I will be going back!
@@TheDadWhoPlays Because of the way distance works in the nether, moving your overworld portal to get a better nether spawn, is incredibly inefficient. It's generally better to just dig tunnels (or build bridges) through the nether.
Might I suggest: For the village & saving villagers - make & take gates & when the villager is in his bed at night, remove the door & replace with a gate (or place ahead of time and close at night). Villagers can't open gates but can open doors. Locked in, they will be safe. The villager will already be linked to his bed, so now you only need to have them link to whatever occupation block you would like them to have or leave them unemployed until needed. Typically, I will pick up ALL occupation blocks from a village, and place one at a time when I need it & then set that villager. They do have an order in their mechanics so if you set the O.B. with one & get green sparkles, but not from THAT villager, take it to another villager - this is easier with all villagers in a single larger building but can still be done slowly in the existing village.
If you dig a 3 deep hole or build a wall around your village mobs wont be able to get in as easily. You would meed to light the place up. The safest place to keep villagers really is to create a town for them in the sky.
An easy to remember tip when facing mobs or danger in Minecraft is: You can run faster than all of them, so until you are better equipped to fight the best option is usually to run away and live! I usually look at my health and if its not Full, I run! Loving the progress! Always looking forward to the next episode!
I vote for more recipes please!! You're doing great exploring Dad gg! Something that helped me with hunting for things in my inventory was to always look at the slots starting at the top, from left to right for each row. Just making myself do that every time helped save a lot of time, and I didn't leave random items taking up those much needed slots!
So glad you got more than 1 dark oak sapling. You need 4 when it comes to dark oak. Planted in a 2x2 grid. You can do a 2x 2 grid with spruce too but spruce will change the grass to podsol when it's done in a 2x2.
Hey dad, to drive your boat you need to align your site straight inline with the front of middle of the boat. To look around turn your boat not your head 😁. I struggled with that one for a bit 🤷🏻♀️ in my game. Keep up the fun 😎
The rain is a visual bug. If you save and close, then log back on, the rain should be gone. It happens from time to time. If leaves are connected to other leaves, dirt or logs, they won't decay. Dark Oak is the only tree that requires 4 saplings, in a 2 by 2 space to grow a tree. Unlike spruce, which can be grown either way. On a good note, they can be used as decorations as a single sapling and it won't grow. 😊 The nether can be deadly but it doesn't have to be. Slabs on the floor prevent mobs from spawning, regardless of light level. With most nether mobs light level doesn't prevent them from spawning. Excellent progress! Keep up the dad jokes, I share them with my daughter and enjoy the eye roles 😂
Hey "The Dad Who Plays"! Storage management tips (21:33): Don't go out exploring with a hoe in your inventory. 🤣 Toss seeds before ANYTHING else. Before you toss logs turn them into planks then into sticks and then make torches. Reminder that the stack max is 64 for most items. After doing all of that if you still need room you can then toss out the flint. 🤣🥰❤🥰🤣
@@TheDadWhoPlays IMO, at this stage in the game, it's only worth doing with cauldrons that you find (e.g., the one you got in the witch hut, or ones you find in villages, because you don't need leather workers). I would not spend iron making cauldrons for lava farming, until you have a lot more iron.
@@jonadabtheunsightly I agree in principle, but he “burns” a lot of time converting logs into charcoal. It’s a big timesaver if you don’t wanna dump hours into grinding logs or coal.
You know what, my world of 6500+ days and I still havent found a good witch hut, they can be turned into farms like Spawners. Witches and Black cats will always spawn there. Witches have a really big loot table too including Sugar, Gunpowder, redstone dust, sticks.. It's just an over all really great farm to have.
Normally, if I’m just tooling around my base, I’ll eat low-quality easily obtainable food like cod, salmon, and potatoes. I save the mutton, steak, chicken, etc. for caving and adventuring trips. always always steak for the nether, though and honey jars are helpful for that too. Honey jars are also helpful for exploring abandoned mineshafts.
To grow Dark Oak trees, you absolutely need to plant 4 saplings in a 2x2 pattern. For Jungle Trees and Spruce Trees, you can either grow a small one with 1x1, or big ones with the 2x2 pattern. Unless you just want the tree for decoration, you will typically want to grow the big ones. They are worth WAY more woods, plus the small ones don't have enough leaves to always drop saplings back. Also, if you grow a 2x2 Spruce tree, the Dirt or Grass blocks will turn into Podzol. Can't mine it without Silk Touch. Podzol, Mycelium and Nylium are super useful for growing Mushrooms. You can plant a small Brown or Red Mushroom on top regardless of how bright it is. On regular Dirt, Grass or Stone, you need to worry about light level being too high to plant Mushrooms and that's annoying. Once a small Mushroom is planted, you can either leave it there and it might pop a new small mushroom somewhere around after a while, or you can use a couple of Bonemeals on it to turn it into one of those Huge Mushrooms. Breaking those blocks with regular tools give a chance to drop some more small Mushrooms, or with a Silk Touch tool you can grab those blocks and use them for building decorative stuff with it. If you don't wanna use Podzol, you will have to dig a really big underground hole to plant them, because they will need mushroom to grow really big! >.>
It appeared around the 19:00 time that you had the rain/lighting glitch as you slept & it didn't clear. When that happens, just briefly exit game & reenter.
To make the Nether relatively safer, take 2 stacks of cobble and build a roof for your portal and walls so the ghasts don't see you. It's simple but it makes a big difference. For some reason almost all my portals are next to a deadly cliff straight into the lava ocean. Then, one by one replace the netherrack around the portal that you step on, by cobblestone. watch out when (not if) you hit a mini lava flow, always take the high ground 🙂 That way, the ghasts can't blow up the "floor" around the portal, that can in some cases be just 2 or even 1 layer of netherrack! It will never be safe anyway, but take enough cobble: you won't get any strong and similarly blast-safe building blocks in the Nether until you find blackstone or basalt, or smelt nether bricks (or, much better, find them hint hint). Also netherrack wears down pickaxes a lot. I suggest to make cheap stone pickaxes. Actually take more than just 2 stacks of cobble.
A helpful tip for steering the boat: center the camera view straight infront of you with the right joystick. Make sure the front of the boat in the lower center and don't move the right joystick while your paddling. Just use the left joystick to steer. It helped me and my husband both!
Another great upload. Dark oak trees are notoriously stingy when it comes to saplings. Also, Dark Oak forest biomes have very low light levels because the trees block out a lot of the sun. So they can tend to spawn a good amount of hostile mobs.
You should expand you village. Place more beds in the houses for new villagers to sleep in. Then toss the villagers a lot of food. Carrots are the preferred choice by most.
Cooking tip: make a hole in the wall 3 wide 2 tall 1 deep, put 6 campfires in there one on top of another in 3 columns - cook 24 food items at once in there for free and collect just by standing in the middle.
Dried Kelp blocks are a good fuel source. kelp is extremely abundant and growable. It doubles as a food source and burns for a long time. Coal used to be all there really was but now they have all this stuff that makes coal a less dominate fuel source. A solid option.
If you need building blocks like you did in the nether around your nether portal, you can build a cobblestone generator. Its basically infinite cobblestone
place more beds in village. Then give existing villagers a bunch of bread, this will put them in the mood to make babies. You will then have extra villagers available to staff any empty workstations

Salmon is basically just worse-smelling tuna with bones in it. And, I mean, the bones are technically edible, but they're not good, either in terms of flavor or texture. In principle, the witch hut can be turned into a farm, but it's a very low-priority farm, especially now that clerics sell redstone dust.
I tend to agree with you about most (non sushi) salmon I’ve had. Quick tip, minecraft in bedrock edition (the one you're playing) is known for being extra cruel in the nether. A good way to offset this is to increase your simulation distance in settings. That way you won't have constant ghasts and super concentrated mobs near you in general

Definitely got lucky with that one. You’re right most are kinda 😏
When gathering saplings, sing fortune hoe on the leaves is the best, most convenient way to speed it up is to just break the leaves with hands. Shears can gather the leaves without breaking them
Salmon is basically just worse-smelling tuna with bones in it.
When I was growing up, we’d go to this place with a massive lunch buffet on Sundays for lunch and they had then”smoked salmon” thing on the salad bar that was disgusting! BUT… getting a boneless filet from your local grocery store is very different. But I know it’s not for everyone. I was super skeptical until I tried it this way.
@@TheDadWhoPlays Wait, a _filet_ ? Salmon comes in filets?
I've only ever seen it canned, same as tuna. (I've lived in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. Admittedly, seafood in general is not a very big part of the culinary tradition in the Midwest.)
If you don't look around using the right stick when in the boat it's easier to control using controller! 😂
You also might want to use paper on that map to zoom it to either 3/4 or 4/4 before taking it to new area to use. Allows for a much bigger area to be seen ☺
You've come a long way from struggling to fight the zombies etc to sniping them from distance now! You fight more effectively than I do! 😂
I do love a good bow and arrow! 😁
@@TheDadWhoPlays I love my infinity bow with unbreaking, power, flame & punch! 😂
@@StormyWolf1981 gonna have to get me one of those! 🤩
@@TheDadWhoPlays You have the chance to try one out on my realm, there was one in the box near spawn (along with elytra, full set of netherite armor & tools etc,😂)
Quick tip, minecraft in bedrock edition (the one you're playing) is known for being extra cruel in the nether. A good way to offset this is to increase your simulation distance in settings. That way you won't have constant ghasts and super concentrated mobs near you in general
you'll see how cool it will be when you see the fully automated warehouse for the first time
Also, 1 block in the nether is 8 blocks in the overworld so you can travel very far in the nether if you bring a extra portal to build maybe 100 blocks away from your original portal.
Playing any other version than Java looks absolutely slow and painful, I hope u give Java a go in the future. Love to see someone experiencing minecraft for the first time tho.
I’ll be giving Java a go sooner than later. Happy with my progression at this point and I’m looking for new ideas and concepts.
I still havent seen you make a jack-o'-lantern. You just need your carved pumpkins and torches in the crafting table and you'll have jack-o'-lanterns. I still remember from the first episode, when I got your seed, I made one immediately. 😂😂😂
You need to put torches and light up that village. So hostile mobs won't spawn there and kill those villagers you traded with.
☝🏻True story.
Ah, watching someone organize chests after I spent (mumbles incomprehensible number) hours yesterday doing the same is very funny.
🤣
Thanks for the merch love it.from Jaden uk
Awesome! Glad you like it! Hope it keeps your coffee (or tea) nice and warm. 😁
Pro tip: if you turn down ambient sound a bit (or a lot), rainy days will be a lot less annoying for you and us.
I’ll keep this in mind. Since I have all the different tracks isolated, I’ll consider adjusting the ambient sounds during the editing phase. Thanks. 😁
I think for Dark Oak you need to plant 4 saplings in a square, otherwise it won't grow
Your inventory is still making me stressed! LOL
The recipe looks good! I'll try it lol
Nice Intro
Thanks!
People born after 2000 watching this: "all your sappling are belong to us"? why did he forget how to grammar all of a sudden?"
man, they really have no chance to survive make your time

19:13 left trigger to harvest the berries without breaking the tree
17:10 I think the cauldron had a potion in it. Not quite sure but it could've been water breathing or maybe just good old water. Either way you could have used an empty bottle on it to get the potion
Oh, I wasn't aware that you could do that. Thanks for the tidbit! 😁
@@TheDadWhoPlays there's also a black cat there.
@@josevladimiraustria2736 I saw the black cat, wasn’t sure if that was a special thing or not. 🤷🏼♂️
@@TheDadWhoPlays it's not a common cat it usually spawn during a full moon in a village.
Use flint to make arrows.. So you don't have to waste emerald...
Oh and about good spot in the Nether from what I've noticed playing Minecraft over the years is there is no good Nether spawn the Nether is not a good place no matter where you spawn in it you just have to go in get out what you need and leave it to the horrible stuff living in it
If you want to get saplings, you need to mine the leaes, not let them decay
I don't think it makes a difference, unless you enchant the hoe with Fortune III. But jungle and dark oak always give only very few saplings.

You proved you are a real gamer not just a dude who plays things.
I remember that from the dark ages of the internet when we didn't have UA-cam. We just had random websites that you could maybe trust to find our funny videos. I also remember the space robots who are here to protect you from the terrible secret of space! 😂
@@TheDadWhoPlays im showing my age but I also turned 40 this year. I was around before that also and the frog blender and the badgers and snakes.
Loving the new intro!
I see you are interested in Dark Oak just so you know Dark Oak is the only tree that will not grow unless you have 4 samplings in a square shape right next to each other
Oh man, I can’t remember right now. Did I get at least 4? 😅
@@TheDadWhoPlays not sure if not you can always go back and chop more down for more
Wen't back and looked. I've got 7... So I can almost make 2 trees! 😅
Cool intro!
Thanks! 😊
@14:30 ✨The Dad Who Cooks✨
Sometimes. Actually pretty often. I like cooking a lot more than the mom who doesn’t play. Plus, I’m usually home earlier than she is. 😁
@@TheDadWhoPlays oh man, I love that. I have many friends who are pros at certain dishes. Couples cooking for each other with a similar skill level can both make something 🔥
Ive noticed your health bar stops half a heart short. Mine does that too in my newest world. I wonder what thats all about
I’ve heard it’s a known bug. I haven’t looked into it though.
wood sheep gang..
Yeah!! 😁
Time for you Sir to make a legit farm.
You are so right!
You should convert your village into an iron farm.
Come see mine if you want to see how to do it.
You have to have 4 on dark oak.
See? Stream gets you in trouble.! lol
No doubt! 🤣🤣 Just need to go fishing in the rain again and I’m sure eventually I’ll get another good bow. 😁
Hi hru
Dude, 19 episodes in, wheres the diamond gear?
I just made a diamond chest piece in the most recent stream, and I've got a diamond pick, shovel and sword. I'm just careful not to overuse them because I don't have a villager with mending yet. 😊
Dad did not label his chests off stream. I guess something came up.
Haha. True. Recording this video came up! 😂
@@TheDadWhoPlays I'm loving how deep you're getting into Minecraft. It's super addictive.
Loving the series! I wanted to share this with you to let you know that you've helped inspire my own project (ua-cam.com/video/hE2P7HPzhO8/v-deo.html), and you are part of the opening credits for the videos. You're doing pretty well, and may not need a guide series like this, but I'm hoping it helps other new players, and want you to know that you have an influence in that. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to your next discoveries!
Thanks! I appreciate it. Nice work on the videos.
And sorry for the late reply. I forget to check the "Held for review" tab. UA-cam sticks any links in that section.
@@TheDadWhoPlays thank you and you too! A pleasant surprise to see this this morning. I'm so sorry I didn't even think about the link thing. Your content is great, and as a fellow "dad who plays" I really enjoy seeing others make great connections and memories through a game like this.
