That was a cool video! I never thought to eat the broccoli leaves, let alone cook them in the omelette. I knew it was gonna be great when your first ingredient was bacon and bacon grease. 😂🥓🙌🏾
February 2024, the brokest month of my entire grown up life. Usually when I'm this broke, I forage for mussels at the nearby beach, but today the tide was too high. It's a day before pay day and I literally have no food at all and I was starving. So I've been snacking on Lilly Pillys and tonight, it dawned on me that I have broccoli growing in my garden. Searched online if the leaves were edible and found this page. I just rolled them in a little oil, seasoned with some salt and pepper, popped them in the microwave for a few seconds and I had the broadest smile on my face afterwards. I love mother nature.
Justin, to tell you the truth, I had never even considered eating the leaves of my broccoli plants. However, now I will try them this year! It's amazing how much produce I've wasted in the past. By the way, it's great to see you doing videos again, I've missed you on UA-cam. Have a great week! ~Margie🤗🥦🥬🥓
I found out last year that broccoli leaves are edible, but I shared them with our pet rabbit. However this next year our rabbit will have to share, because that omelette looks yummy.
They are! I've never had any until last year. I was always sad to just throw the plant away after harvesting the crown. Now I feel like there is a whole new reason to grow them!
Months ago I shoved the end of the broccoli I cut off that I bought from the store and it's growing huge so many leaves, produced flowers that went seed and has propagated it's own seeds. 🎉
Great idea ! This is perfect . Is that your backyard garden now ? We need serial videos when you plant and what you do and use your garden as the demo . Love your videos !
This video was actually filmed this past fall. Unfortunately, I was sick most of January and wasn't able to film a lot. I am much better now and have some new videos on the way! The next one one relates to starting seeds for Spring 2023!
Hi Justin my Friend. Sorry that you were ill. I sincerely hope you are better. You have been missed. This was a very good video. Its all about eating healthy right? Whether eating the greens or reusing them as compost, we practice sustainability. Of course, we do like them as Food. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!!!
Thank you for this video, i didn't know you could eat the leaves! Beginner here lol😂 I'm learning so much from you and just wanted to say THANK YOU!! You have helped me tremendously!! I have some things planted but wasn't sure what needed staking or which needed a trellis until i came across your channel!! And yes please do more videos like this one! ❤
Hello Justin, I’m start to eat broccoli leaves now! I’ve been growing broccoli all winter long and they never froze out. Who would know? I’m in 7B, broccoli is easy to grow and fun to eat.
Finally 😊 I posted about this on one of your videos. On another note we buy lettuce variety pks that are whole bunches and I have those a cabbage stem leftover from one we got at the store because mine aren’t ready yet and they’re growing great. I moved the cabbage outside today. I did the same thing with the crown of a pineapple and it’s almost time to repot it and move it outside. To do pineapple you cut the crown or green leafy part off the top of the pineapple then remove several layers of leaves from bottom til you see roots. Plant in a container and keep moist not wet until it’s warm enough to set outside. Bring it in every winter or first sign of frost in your area.
Hi Justin, I love your videos and cheerful attitude. 😀👍 I grew up on a farm and we used to eat everything, from plants and animals, so broccoli leaves too. Just please, please, ditch that non-stick pan, it's toxic and it kills you, and nobody wants that. 😊
Thanks! Looking forward to giving it a try soon! Hope you survived using a metal spatula on that lovely non-stick.pan! 😂 Mu son even knows no metal on my pots!
Great idea .. love all greens … wish I grew my own Broccoli to give it a try …Omelettes are my favourite “fast food” …thanks for posting.. New subscriber from Scotland 👌🏻
I didn’t die! I’m not one to be wasteful. That’s for the tip. I understand that plants want us healthy so we could feed them when we pass on. It’s a circle of life. You’re doing a good thing. Keep it up. Don’t stop we all need this kind of encouragement to live a healthier life. Can you dig it?
Justin this was a great video. Can you cook Broccoli leaves like Bruce does his collards? Never thought of eating broccoli leaves until this video. Definitely will try it out.
I was wondering about the leaves. Would you be able to use the leaves after you get the main brocolli and side shoots ornwouldnit become bitter? Thanks for the video.
Sometimes my broccoli wouldn't head up so I cooked leaves with radish n turnip tops n all other greens..and I cringed everytime you used the metal spatula on that pan 😄
Broccoli, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi and brussels sprouts are different cultivars of one species. I stopped growing collards and kale 20 years ago because the leaves from my broccoli, kohlrabi and brussels sprouts could replace them in my diet. Collards and kale seemed like a waste of garden space. Kohlrabi has the sweetest and most tender leaves of all of them. Swiss chard and beets are one species, too. One develops a big edible root and the other doesn't. The greens are exactly the same except for color. If the color matters, grow both. If not, only grow beets and eat the greens.

Awesome. Try the oven or a slight pan sear. We gotta leave the microwaves in the past
💚Avoid metal utensils on non stick pans to avoid novel chemical ingestion

Does the leaves taste a bit bitter?
A greenhouse cooking episode, MAGIC!
Thanks for the cooking segment & ideas to use the broccoli leaves. Now I’m hungry. 😊

Justin this was a great video. Can you cook Broccoli leaves like Bruce does his collards? Never thought of eating broccoli leaves until this video. Definitely will try it out.
I would eat them if I could grow broccoli. Living in KC and the bugs are horrid…Japanese beetles destroyed my garden last year. 😢 love your channel 😊
😆 good food!
(You also proved that bacon and onion and cheese make everything better!)
That looks so good 😊
If you harvest leaves will the plant still produce broccoli heads?
Yummy 😋
The superman jump! 🤣🤣
Also just found out brocoli leaves can be eaten! Wish the supermarkets can sell them too. I have never seen them anywhere not even in sunday markets.
I'm never planted broccoli in my vegetable garden.....well, until now.
I feel like I’ve wasted my life not knowing this 😅 can’t wait to try broccoli leaves this summer!
👌👌👌
What are the dimensions of your raised beds? Also what type/size wood did you use? So glad I came across your channel! 🙌

Lol!!! Can you do a video on deer fencing? My garden has been destroyed this winter!😭
Your garden is ridiculously beautiful! How did you project from that $%%^&%##% “bomb cyclone”? All my brassicas died. 😔
I was wondering about the leaves. Would you be able to use the leaves after you get the main brocolli and side shoots ornwouldnit become bitter? Thanks for the video.
That's it. I'm off to the garden to cut some broccoli leaves...
What about Cauliflower leaves?
I would love a garden bed like that! I have the space but not the time! It just seems so much work😂
I had no idea you could eat broccoli leaves!
Lovely Omelette.
What fertilizer you use?
Great Video and I will check it out! Get yourself some "Slap yo Mama seasoning! Better than Tony's! The more you add the hotter it gets!
Sometimes my broccoli wouldn't head up so I cooked leaves with radish n turnip tops n all other greens..and I cringed everytime you used the metal spatula on that pan 😄
Nooooice! 🙌🏽

Brussel Sprout Leaves!!! Much tastier than cabbage.
🤔 I'll have to give them a shot!
@@skgreenhouse One of my fav foods & plentiful early. The taste is awesome!
I juice them
What broccoli variety do you have planted?
I use my broccoli leaves as a substitute for hamburger buns and taco shells.
I did not know how to use my used up brocoli plant.
Now I would like to grow cabbage…
