Backpacking to the 4th of July Mine

- Our grandson's first ever backpacking trip to the high country. We went up to the 4th of July Mine from the 4th of July Trailhead in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. We had plenty of highs, a few lows, learned a lot, and even had an unexpected Moose encounter on trail!
The trail is full of scenery, ever changing trail conditions, plenty of water sources, and a few waterfalls to boot. Just before the mine, look for plentiful campsites off trail. Enjoy several day hikes beyond the mine, Lake Dorothy, Arapaho Pass, the Arapaho Glacier, or even hit a 13er on S Arapaho Peak.
The road to the trailhead is rough and unmaintained most of the year. High clearance and 4WD are recommended, though a Subaru will handle it just fine!

What a fun hiking trip with the mini MAD HIPPIE. I loved seeing the nature through a Childs eyes. He has the best teacher ever.

Great video. I just returned from taking our 13 year old for a few nights on the CT by Kenosha Pass-we had a blast. Then hiked up by Mt Guyot and saw a bunch of Mountain Goats and a Moose. Making memories with the kids is great.

Great video. I just came back from the IPW. Lots of moose. Elevation always gets me. It's not something you can really practice for. Thanks for sharing, cheers!
The moose were definitely out and about on this one! We had terrible rest the night before the hike, and we started off behind the 8 ball but managed to salvage a great outing.
