Hi there! Italy here, it was a real pleasure playing with you, and thank you again for inviting me and for the kind words in this video. Ok, so I’m going to comment chronologically about the things you say in your video, focusing mostly, of course, on the Italian side of things. 1) Is the sweating Italyball at the beginning a nudge at my teaser for this game? Also, congrats for nailing the pronunciation of my nickname haha 2) I’m a bit sad that you didn’t focus a bit more on our relationship this game, because I think it was the crucial thing that eventually decided the trajectory of the game. If not for our constant and lighthearted communication, I could have stuck with Austria and the game would have been completely different. My decision to turn back and not to attack you, as well as your decision not to come south to sneak into Tunis are both real gamechangers and, 5 minute turns or not, our litte talks were really important. 3) I notice in your press with England that I “insist” on a lot of things I didn’t insist on ^^ Just like Germany was “insisting” you should come for Tunis, right? 4) Love the appreciation for me sneaking in Galicia and getting Warsaw at the end. That was beautiful. As for my choice in stabbing Austria instead of you, I’ll copy paste something that I also told FloridaMan: - Relationship is key in any diplomacy alliance and, believe it or not, my relationship with Austria was very uneasy, even though it wasn't evident from the moves. I'm pretty sure I would have ended up on the Austrian chopping block if I hadn't acted first, since Austria was making very stern requests and growing faster than me. On the other hand, my relationship with you was easygoing and friendly, even when I appeared to be attacking you. - Russia was really struggling with the time format, and they were already on the backfoot against Austria, while you were having no such difficulty. I'm pretty sure my progress against you would have been extremely slow, while Austria would have had a very easy time against Russia, and I wanted to prevent just that. I know it doesn't seem like it, since Russia topped the board together with me, but Russia's success has to be partly attributed to players throwing to them (like Germany and somewhat Austria) and the Austrian player dictating lots of good moves to Russia. That wouldn't have been the case if Austria and Russia had been enemies. - Finally, you had made it abundantly clear that you would not allow me to get anything from you (or at least not in a long time) and I tended to believe you. In conclusion, in my estimation, if I had continued against you, Austria would have won this game in the process, and I was not prepared to allow that. Also, to reiterate, I really didn't like Austria, but I liked you, and that has to count for something ^^
(Bilbert here) I've enjoyed all the videos thus far from all players. Everyone, Sploack makes great commentary on this game, though he shows how demanding I was in that relationship! So, everyone who sees this, go and see his coverage too! To my point: relationships are indeed important, but I really think killing others with kindness is only good when a player is no longer in the running and plays kingmaker. Everyone in the game was pretty high-level, so I think there weren't a lot of emotional decisions with the game on the line. I don't believe that the chat tone made an ounce of difference in this game or the stab, and I know saying that is Diplomacy heresy. Meme's press was good mostly because of his promise of a bounce of you in the East Med. It was well said and well done. He convinced you it would be harder to gain ground against him than Austria, something you already were inclined to believe. I was incredibly forceful with you because you made it clear every year that you don't go west as Italy. I came to believe from the beginning (starting with trying to get me to do the Key Lepanto in 1901) that your idea of a successful Italy always includes a green Austria, so I needed to make clear to you that any suspicious move was grounds for breaking up the relationship.
@@brandoncuster2223 Your interpretation of my moves (and of the key lepanto proposal) was definitely fair, and you're right that, to an extent, in a high level game you can be more forceful with the other players, because relationship counts a little bit less and geographical determinism a little bit more. You were wrong in assuming that I see a green Austria as the only viable path for Italy. I do go against France a good chunk of the time, it just depends on the game. Ultimately though, Russia was going to fall to you incredibly fast, and France was not going to do the same to me. In a different format, that might have been something we could have overcome as an alliance, but in a game that ends in 1908 where whoever has the most supply centers wins? You probably would've won if i hadn't attacked you. I still think you were one of the strongest players on the board, and if Russia had been more able to defend himself against you, I'd have probably gone against France.
@@Sploack I did seem to have a good runway, which is good grounds for betrayal. The time limit makes it difficult for us to work out dot sharing. I had been taken by surprise when Russia attacked Turkey and when the Turkish build was missed. I didn't have the chat bandwidth to continue discussions with Turkey in depth, and he never offered vassalage. I never recalibrated properly to keep out from being sandwiched.
@@brandoncuster2223 you (mostly) helping Russia against me did cost me the possibility of topping alone, so you had some amount of revenge, and I applaud you for that
Hey Sploack! Congrats again on the joint top! 1) The sweating Italyball is from our main channel art, I guess TAURED predicted the spot you would be in :P It fits quite well here! 2) Yeah, that's a downside of the format I went with here. Not enough time to talk about everything, and since things were generally going really well with you, I didn't focus on it much at all; but I completely agree that alliance determined the course of the game. Your turnaround to attack Austria was seriously crucial for me doing well in this thing. 3) Ahaha, yep, that's a habit I have. People rarely double check with others even in non-blitz games about small details like that - if it's believeable, they just tend to accept it. Having another player 'force' you to do something is a great way to excuse doing something that annoys someone else. 4) Congrats again on the finale! Was one heck of a close run thing and that sneaking through ending up being critical :D

"Honesty is only good if it sounds like honesty to the other player." Horrifying but true.
"How dare you horrendously stab me while I'm horrendously stabbing someone else" lmao

Some sage life advice is offered in this video
DiploStrats does not endorse using any of these videos for life advice :p
It’s nice to see you making “shorter” videos every now and again 👍🏻
Love the format, love the coverage!
