Thanks for the memories... I'm 53 years old, I played this game during the arcade era when consoles and PCs didn't exist or were unable to cope , and the soundtrack was the main reason to keep playing and finish it.
This is awesome, thanks for posting. It’s kinda crazy how much better the PC Engine version of this soundtrack is compared to the mega drive… especially on stage 5
Although I'm a huge Genesis fan, I have to admit it in all honesty: The Stage 5 song is off the charts. Better than Arcade ! But hey, look at this video: A remade soundtrack to the Genesis's Truxton. ua-cam.com/video/84qmD1i3alM/v-deo.html
Can't say this eclipses either the Mega Drive or arcade soundtracks for me, I still enjoy how clean and orchestral they both are. But this crunchy synth and driving rock percussion is incredible. Definitely a gem.
It's fast because the Genesis version was only optimized for playing on PAL systems, due to Sega not giving to Toaplan the most reliable development instructions. If you play with PAL, the music is in normal speed.
I didn't know the music of this game was so good. I think I played it out of sheer spite on the genesis because I thought there's no way they made something that awful sounding. But then I get an itch to watch a bunch of shmup games and find this by chance. Level 5 is really good.

The Genesis version contains a bug that causes it to play faster. Toaplan apparently didn't get the right hardware specs from Sega.

Disagree, genesis version much better
@@DenisExgardianthe percussion makes a world of difference👌
This little machine can rock so hard unbelievable
The added percussion is a sweet bonus in the PC Engine version ^w^

Epic game my lord
PCエンジン版のTATSUJIN、究極タイガー、ギャラガ’88のBGMはアーケード版より好き
Same Composer Masahiro Yuge ^^
12:04 is where it's at
I just stare at game cover
Sally sounds better here than it does on the MD. It's too fast on the MD. On the PCE you can actually enjoy the tune.

Still like the impact of the mega drive bass lines but damn this sounds nice
Does this game use chip music or is this a CD based sound track in the game? (Nice upload).
This soundtrack is pure PC Engine chip music and some of the best there is IMO.
@weiwei nick This port is from 1992, five years into the PCE/Turbo's lifespan. It was far from an early Hu-Card game.
With PC-Engine games, look for "HuCARD" on the cover. If it says HuCARD it's chiptune, not CD Audio. :)

I just heard stage 5 at ua-cam.com/video/8q0J7X0ZbIk/v-deo.html
I gotta play the game now.
The track is on the same level as the OST of Axelay
This sounds better on 1.25. I prefer a faster tempo
Lemme guess, you grew up on the Sega Genesis version?
@@akubaku2797 No, I like that version, but it's earrapey as fuck lol
