Wow... I don't see any downsides to this; it's quick and very smooth. And Ford always does a great job with their hood designs, imo; this new "wavy hood" looks distressed, angular and crisp.
they had lots of issue but hopefully fixed in the 2022 model. Look for a review on the hybrid 2021 model by motorbiscut I think
I think the Powerboost is perhaps the best "mainstream" engine out there. And its fuel economy is proven. But this particular Platinum and Limited has two problems: Raptor and TRX. The Raptor in particular would be just as quick of not for the 35s/37s, plus you pick up so much more in terms of suspension design, comfort, and for sure resale(yes I know Powerboosts tow better than the Raptor). And if you can forgo some luxuries, you can get a V8 TRX as well.
I would spec a Lariat Sport if I must have a Powerboost(since Ford is decidedly stubborn in not putting it or the 5.0 in the Tremor).
Lariat sports where I live go for the same price as a ram 1500 longhorn limited rather go for the ram at that price point but if I go with Ford it would def be the Raptor over a limited or platinum
I own a Limited Powerboost. It is not only quicker than the Raptor, but also has a much more luxurious interior with the diamond quilted seats, leather dash and door treatments. It also has a decent off road suspension for most people's needs. It has 4X4 Auto and a rear locker. Not Raptor level stuff, but more than most people need. And in my opinion, here's where Ford made a huge mistake with the Raptor, who do I have a 7.2 kw generator in my truck that would allow me to not only take my camper off road, but keep it there for weeks? You could argue that my Limited with a small lift and tire upgrade would be the superior overlander and that just shouldn't be. The Powerboost should be in the Raptor. Not sure why it isn't. The Hybrid battery is tiny and most people would prefer the added weight for the benefits of that Hybrid engine, one being it can power your house. It also has Blue Cruise standard. If you look at the performance numbers, the Powerboost turns a quarter in Just over 5 seconds and 103 mph. Those are 1998 Camaro Z28/SS numbers in a 5500 pound truck. Very Impressive. The Raptor is down 60 pound feet of torque to the Powerboost. I do admit that the Raptor is cooler, but no way Ford should allow any other F150 model to outperform it.
@@MrBklewis77 you brought up the reason im eventually getting a powerboost. Can pull my popup out to the middle of big bend and i camp for two+ weeks easily with all the power i would ever need. I can always upgrade suspension alter to suit my needs.
@@The_ZenTex great thinking. That is why I passed on the Raptor. The generator was just too tempting and I have powered an entire hollywood level film crew in the New Mexican Mountains off the tailgate of my truck for a week this past September. And I am on the stock suspension. Never needed my 4x4 once, but if I did it was there.
I own a 2021 Powerboost Lariat crew cab long box 4x4 501a package. My very first fill up my DTE was 645 miles to empty. It’s the best towing/driving F150 I have owned. The power comes on full and fluid. It is quiet and very comfortable to drive. My friends all own diesel trucks and are jealous of the performance and mpg. It’s just a great truck all around. Be diligent you can fine one for MSRP. I paid $60,575 for my truck. Less $1,000 ford rebate. Best truck for the money.
What’s your mpg been on highway and what has it been in town? Curious about real world numbers
@@Phantom_Anthem In town 24 freeway best so far was 26. 3967 miles so far. I bought it new Nov 11th last year and have used 132 gallons of fuel.

I had a '21 powerboost platinum and just traded in for a new '22 so have been driving one for about 2 years. One thing you fail to mention is significantly improved towing experience as well. the extra torque from the electric motor gets my travel trailer or pontoon moving effortlessly from a stop and also helps with minor speed adjustments while moving. This is not something I was aware of or expecting but I noticed it immediately the first time I towed with it.

Ben I absolutely love your videos but here's the thing Ben. You always pick like the top of the line models like platinum or higher. I would like to see like an xlt pwerboost 2022 model. I mean it's nice to see all the luxury things you get but my pockets are thin. I'm definitely liking the powerboost with the 7.2 kw generator and probably gonna by it. Tks Ben. @@xplor1301 Right? Should have kept the V8, add a mild hybrid as an option, add a few more gears to the transmission and adjust the rear end final drive for better mpg.

Need to see this in the new platinum black appearance package. No non-rendered pictures of the Platinum on UA-cam or website. Just ordered a bit blind. Dealer wasn’t even aware. New for 2022.
just traded in a '21 platinum for a '22 with the black appearance package and I am torn. The black looks fabulous and they literally blacked out everything. unfortunately if you see it next to a XLT black package they look too close now for the cost difference. Just doesn't scream platinum like it does with the chrome. Also, note that the regular 3.5 comes with dual exhaust with this package but the powerboost does not for whatever reason

I ordered a 2022 PowerBoost thinking the extra torque and the ProPower generator would be ideal for hauling my travel trailer around. The problem is, there is no easy way to figure out what payload is going to be on a new Ford because Ford doesn't publish the detailed numbers to make it possible to figure it out when placing the order. All I could find and all the salesman could quote me was their published numbers for the drive and engine configurations that suggested the PowerBoost I ordered was good for 1850 lbs. Fast forward seven months and still waiting for the truck, but I found on a forum where someone posted an obscure guide from Ford for the 2021 model year that identifies weights for various options. Since 2021 and 2022 options are not the same, I had to take some liberties and guesses with the numbers, but I think I was able to get in the ballpark, which was 1405 lb. Unfortunately, that number is marginal for my Ultralight 25 ft travel trailer, but I think I can make it work with some modifications to my trailer. However, on the same forum, I saw a payload sticker that was posted for a similarly optioned powerboost and that rig only had a 1220 lb payload rating. If Ford would make the numbers available, I would have been able to modify my order to give me some margin in payload; as it is, I am questioning whether I will even be able to use the new truck after waiting seven months.

You always do good video reviews. I'm also here in Utah. A question about the Powerboost engine at the end below. Sometime in 2024 I hope to buy a new F150 Platinum, oxford white exterior, with blackout package inside and outside, Powerboost, fold out flat work surface in front center console, collapsible, lockable storage behind rear seat, spray in black bed liner, probably pro power onboard, basically fully loaded, but not the new side opening rear tailgate, just the current one with the pullout step. I will get a smooth, black Diamondback HD bedcover with all the tie down cleats pre-installed put on it too. I would also like to level it, maybe get bigger all terrain tires, with a bit of a poke, black or body colored fender flares smooth without the cosmetic bolts if the poke is a bit more. Hopefully the massaging front row seats will be available. As to my question:
Regarding the Powerboost, are you aware of any issues, good or bad, with how the Powerboost deals with extreme cold and high altitudes of mountainy ski country, starting up reliability, mpg effect, other? Oh, and is there a way, maybe as part of the level, to add coil spring shocks to make the drive smoother like the Raptor's with its coil spring shocks? Thanks.
So from what you are saying this is the quickest option in an f150? It seems acceleration is the primary advantage in this setup. For towing one would probably want something else… Too bad it doesn’t have an EV only mode

I’m in this dilemma now. I’ll probably never use the generator feature. Also, is it worth an extra $1900 for the hybrid function for a few more mpgs? I’d never make up the difference…
Well duh.. Don’t get those things then….
You won’t even see any mpg gains unless you do a lot of idling and stop and go driving. I like the option of being able to back it in tho the garage without any fumes. It may sound like a gimmick but if you need your garage floor you’ll find yourself driving it in and out all the time. Also being able to run the AC without idling the engine is a nice option
These truck prices are making a college education seem cheap. Better return on investment at least.

Just placed my order for the Lariat Powerboost, and I’m a Toyota guy. Tundra just seemed to catch up with Ford, not pass it. They put a bed on a SUV like Honda did. So…If the F-150 is reliable, I’ll be happy. All these bells and whistles don’t mean squat, tho, if I’m at the dealership more than twice a year. We shall see.
Good luck and congrats but if you’re expecting the same reliability as your V8 tundra be ready for a major disappointment.
Toyota hasn't caught up to ford and never will... watch vids of the tundra hybrid against the powerboost the tundra gets smoked badly in acceleration tests

Adaptive steering comes standard on the 2021 f150 platinum now you have to pay $1000 extra on 2022+ WTF.
Kind of hard to justify the Plat trim or higher. The Lariat gets you almost all of this.
I'm not a Ford guy, but that Lariat Sport is my favorite trim. It even rolls in the upgrades LEDs.

The biggest difference is the seats.

Hello, what size options do you have with the 2022 powerboost? Or does it only come standard with the 30.6 gallon tank?
Only the standard because of the PowerBoost batteries from what I’ve researched.
SuperCrew models have a 26 gallon tank for all engines unless you opt for the 5.0 v8 which comes with an optional 36 gallon tank

I hear the term 'automatically adjustable' being used to describe the steering column but shouldn't it be referred to as 'power-adjustable'?
I believe it is part of the memory seat settings so it is automatically adjust between drivers.
Could be both. It also adjusts when you power off the truck.

Some downgrades from the 21 I notice. Non led plate lights, less interior lighting, and no screen on the AC controls. Hopefully most of this can be fixed backordering 21 parts but it's a shame nonetheless
21 was a lot better deal with more standard features. They of course had to cheap out on something in the 22. Hopefully at least they fixed some mechanical/quality issues on the 22 but I wouldn’t hold my breath…

Ford had a ton of trouble when they first came out. Toyota has had a few.
@@JH-mt3pp Ford made it past 330 miles with their turbos in the F150, unlike some Tundra owners. So now that Toyota has lost their claimed reliability in the '22 Tundra, all that's left is a strangely ugly truck. Gigs up! All vehicles, including Toyota, have problems from time to time. Sorry.......

OMG, the vast majority of people agree the new Tundra is butt ugly. The grill looks like it ran into the international space station and half the station is stuck on it and the rear end looks so awkward. An ugly truck that almost caught up to the rest of the pack. Enjoy.....

F150 Platinum with FX4 package.......what a joke. That truck will never be used in any rocky or serious off road conditions . It's just a way for the dealer to make an extra $1000 profit IMO.
