I am seriously in love with the hornsby but I know Ill never be able to afford a real one, however I can definitely build one! Have all the tools I need JUST WANT PLANS!!
Thanks for the info, but I'm afraid Steam Traction World is a bit too pricey me right now, especially when you consider the kits/complete engines have to shipped from the UK to me in the US, which adds cost. I might consider buying one one day, but for right now, I'm making do with a Wilesco showman's engine and my gauge 1 live steam locomotives, one of which I built myself from a kit.
madrabidfireman you fill the boiler with water, fill the firebox with coal, light it which heats the water, turning it to steam. This then gathers at the top of the boiler, in the cylinder block, which has pistons like a car engine, which transfers the linear power to rotational, powering gears to the drive wheels. The extra coal is kept under the seat and extra water is kept between the tracks under the boiler and under the floor, where the man's feet are.
@alberthsell I think there's been a slight mis-communication here. I'm not intending to build that particular steam crawler, I'm just looking to build something powered by steam to go riding around on just for the sheer hell of doing so. I've got a welder as well as a garage full of tools, and a lot of salvageable material to work with, but no lathe... So, can you offer this poor beginner any help? Brendan O. P.S. "Impossible" and "can't" don't exist, so far as I am concerned.
Say, does anybody know where I can find some resources (books, dvds, etc)on building something like this. I admit I don't have a lathe, or much of a machine shop, but I'd like to try my hand at building a miniature steam tractor, having already built a locomotive from a kit.....How hard can it be, given enough time?
Alll I am going to say to you Richierich1285 is that the best part of you passed down the loo last time you sat on it. You apparently have no brain power or you would appreciate the amount of skill the gent who built the engine has.
this is my new favorite machine
+Real Steam
+Tracks
+Miniature, but not a model
A credit to the owner/designer.builder. Beautiful Machine and very unique.

CUTE!
Hi Shipwright, you can buy steam engines in kit form, search for steam traction world, they are in Daventry
This is cool! was this a kit job or scratch built. What is this fired on and where is the fuel and water kept? Thanks for posting.

I do not why , but it reminds me of something out of a Japanese cartoon .
