I'm not Japanese but Filipino. I was explaining to my son that the Japanese show their appreciation of the person making their food by making slurping sounds when eating. So now, every time he eats noodles, he slurps. Do what you have to do to show your enjoyment of your food. Other nationalities should learn about other cultures and not just about theirs. If they don't want to listen to the sound, then mute the sound. You should definitely keep those photos. Those are precious mementos of your family.
Hi! Thank you for your comment :) I'm not sure about the slurping thing, but I think we Japanese show our appreciation when we eat by saying two phrases: 'Itadakimasu' and 'Gochisosama deshita.' "Itadakimasu" is a greeting of gratitude said before a meal. Its origin lies in the verb "itadaku" (to receive), expressing thanks for the lives of the food, the blessings of nature, and the people who prepared the meal. In Japan's agricultural society, there is a deep-rooted spirit of coexisting with nature and respecting all life, influenced by Buddhism. This phrase embodies respect for all entities that provide the ingredients. "Gochisosama deshita" is a greeting of gratitude said after a meal. The origin of "gochiso" is "chiso" (running around), referring to the effort of gathering food. In the past, preparing a meal required considerable labor, and this phrase came to express appreciation for that effort and hospitality. This greeting signifies gratitude for the bonds formed through sharing a meal and the thoughtfulness of those who provided the food.
I think in Japanese culture, one is bound to be considerate toward the other and community. If I am correct, schoolchildren participate in the clean-up of their classrooms and other small chores.
@@renate-dv5dj I just watched a video about that. I'd love to see our students start that in kindergarten or first grade when they're still interested in helping.

Please do not feel as if you need to change the way you eat your ramen. As a overseas viewer, you are giving me a glimpse into your life, your routine and your customs. I enjoy learning how others live. It helps me not only appreciate the ways we are the same but also our differences as well. Your garden is looking well. I hope it produces bountifully for you. My only comment is that I would have taken the spinach you thinned out, washed it and tossed it in your miso soup. Take care and be well. 🙂
Hi Daeira! Thank you for your kind and warm comment☺️ It'd be nice to use the thinned-out spinach for miso soup! I'll thin out some more next time, so I'll do it then :)
Eating like a dog is gross in any form. It is about being caring of others. I suffer Misophonia and it upsets me when people assume others want to hear sloppy slurpy saliva fests while eating. Must others hear one eat? It is not part of the video enjoyment hearing one eat so grossly. It is called thinking of others in a public place. We are far too worried about offending yet say do not feel it is offensive when you care little about offending those it upsets by telling others to just accept bad habits.. It is just bad manners. You eat like an animal then others will comment. Simply mute the sloppy eating for the duration making videos for public consumption. We are not all eating to be heard for likes. Must we listen to a person eat sloppy? Please use your brain.
Seeing all those potatoes at the door made my heart smile! Thank you for your offering genuine and calming videos of a real life that is lived very well.😊

Hi, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Thank you so much for allowing us into your daily routine. Your videos are refreshing and engaging in their honesty and natural content (the ticking of your clock, the sounds of the birds, local traffic, washing machine, etc.). Love the garden updates and I agree with you, composting is a very cool thing indeed. Love the walks about town (similar landscapes St John's Newfoundland, Seattle WA, and San Francisco, CA). Love the local feral cats. The views are amazing (the Cherry Blossoms were magnificent)... My Dude, slurp away on those noodles!!!! I work in a kitchen and it makes me happy seeing people enjoying their food. Your knife skills are improving. A knife tip: when slicing, especially if your working on root vegetables - if you pinch the top of your knife between your thumb and first finger-where the blade meets the handle- you'll have more control over the blade and it helps to prevent bodily harm. Please keep up the great work!!

Garden looks great. Must be good feeling harvesting your own products. And your friends will be happy. Oh my its lot of cleaning you had to do. And carrying that bedding seems realy hard thing to do. Simple dishes are mostly the best ones. I noticed (if I am right) that most Japanese homes do not have the oven. Why is that?I never had coffee from Nicaragua. Interesting. I was disapointed whe we travelled to South America where I was exited for the coffee but it wasnt that great at all. The expalanation was that coffee that we drink in the west is mostly blend of different types of coffee.Like when you show food shop:) You need a small table for your rice cooker.I love pickled daikon. We ger it easy here in our supermarket. If you add an egg to your potatoes you can make Swiss roesti:). Maybe next time you can explain Nato more. I think it is very popular in Japan? beautiful views.Thank you for the video. Cheers
Carrying the bed was so hard 😂, but I was relieved that everything went well. As for the oven, some people have one, but some don't. I guess people who love cooking have one? I'm sorry that you couldn't enjoy good coffee there😢. Swiss roesti looks so delicious!!! I want to try it. Thank you for sharing with me. Natto is very popular in Japan, and I'll explain it in an upcoming video!!! :)
Just found your video! I am American and have been enamored of the Japanese way of doing things for a very long time! When I discovered the reason for the slurping of noodles, and ramen being my favorite food on earth, I can't eat a bowl of ramen without slurping. And I slurp wherever I go. Doesn't even have to be ramen. It could be a bowl of rice. But there's something about pulling air through the food that really does enhance the flavor. Plus it's fun! We are here to enjoy your way of life and your culture. Please don't westernize yourself. Stay authentically Japanese! Subscribed!

What happened to kimchi? You eat a balanced, healthy meal and you are doing well to eat natto every day, at least once. I am told, it is a very good source of protein and potassium, especially for those who eat a vegetarian diet. Also, it is good for the digestive track and aging. About your gardening skills, I can't comment, because I grew hot chili peppers once, the only gardening I did. Thanks again for letting us into your home and have a joyful, exciting week. : )

Hello from Singapore. I am a Singaporean Chinese female who sometimes eradicate bad vibe in the rooms by burning the short ends of my moxa sticks. It discouraged insects and pest visits. I buy moxa stick which are made of dried mugwort leaves.
Many people have that room or closet that seems VERY disorganized. We are in the early process of selling the live/work space we have now and yesterday some potential realtors came to see the space. The storage room for my camera equipment and lighting gear is so embarrassing. Just too much stuff and messy. Luckily all the other parts of our photo studio we try to keep very clean! You now make me want to clean my camera closet...

After using insect foggers for a few years now I've read that it is actually not recommended to vacuum or wipe for a few days because the pesticide residue needs to stay on the floor to keep killing insects and their eggs. I found it did work better that way.

While slurping, you also take in air and thereby cool the noodles.

Thanks for another amazing video. Hugs from Portugal
Thanks!! Hugs from Nagasaki!
I am unexpectedly rewarded to a new easy recipe, flour coated shredded potatoes fried like a pancake ❤🥞🤤🤤.
Subscribed!
Nice calming video keep it up 🎉🎉🎉 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
What a relaxing and peaceful 30min video! Loved it❤

I'm American and I slurp my noodles too. It makes eating them more enjoyable! Definitely want to try making some carbonated tea, thanks for the idea.
Hi Ant! Thank you for your comment ☺️ I thought people in America didn't slurp their noodles, but it's good to know that at least you do ☺️

I just found your channel tonight, a few minutes into the episode , I decided to subscribe. Great and interesting ❤Greetings from Puerto Rico 🙏🏻
I just found your channel. I enjoyed your video, I will go back and watch previous videos do I know your story. I used to live in Kobe for many years so it is fun to see all the cool Japanese things. 🙂
Wow, you used to live in Kobe! I think it's a beautiful city. I'm glad you found my channel and enjoyed my video. :)
You are such a cutie! Thank you for another vlog! 🌱💫
I'm okay with slurping sounds though, it doesn't sounds irritating or something. For me, it adds more japanese vibes, hehe!
Thank you! 😆
I wasn't very confident if it was okay to slurp noodles, especially for people from European cultures, so I ate the first bite without making any noise😆
Hi! Nothing happened to the kimchi! 😆 I still buy and eat it sometimes even though it doesn't appear in the videos. :)
Thank you for watching! I hope to see you next time!
Always been inspired by Japanese culture... Your videos inspire me, as I am also about to start my solo career life after a while. Somewhere makes me feel calm and motivated.
Hi, thank you for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed my video. Good luck with your new career ☺️
I really appreciate your videos, I feel through the screen how much you enjoy your life with simple yet quite pleasant routines. I've been watching you for a while, and now I'm an expert in miso soup (thanks to you, now I know 4 types of broth for it and all kinds of ingredients). Also it is very interesting to learn more about Nagasaki and its historical areas. Your content is not a click-bait type, but soul-healing type. Please continue doing what you enjoy!
With love from Russia!
I'm glad to hear you have become familiar with miso soup. 😆
Thank you for becoming interested in Nagasaki, my beloved city. Your comment makes me feel so motivated and encouraged.
Big hug from Nagasaki!😌
Love the Hydrangeas! Mine here in Sydney get too scorched in the summer sun. Yours look perfect.
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Nagasaki will get scorched as well soon once the rainy season finishes...☀️☀️☀️
Excellent flip of the p otato pancake
Hola Sho!😊....
Your food always looks delicious, another lovely video ❤
Thank you 😋
I aspire to live likewise in Japan. So calming and therapeutic although I know making a living there is quite a battle😅
I will make the carbonated Tea. Sounds like a great summer refreshment. Great flip with the potato!
The many hills in Nagasaki are good for fitness.
Thank you for watching :)
I believe it would be a great summer refreshment! Actually, I've lost 20 kg since moving to a sloping area 😆
I love Japanese traditions/lifestyle in my opinion its wayyy better than in USA!🤷♀️❤❤❤
Wow, thank you for watching from Ireland!! Nagasaki is always waiting for you to visit 😆
Dentro de poco será tu "verdulería de confianza": la más próxima de casa y la más fresca!),las compras y el trabajo on line,no paras ni un minuto...al final del día tienes que estar cansadísimo(así,el descanso nocturno lo tienes garantizado,je,je);
I visited Nagasaki last April and it was a beautiful city!
Wow!! Thank you for coming !! ☺️
Hi! Thank you for your comment.
Good luck with cleaning your camera closet! I’m cheering for you with all my might from Nagasaki! ☺️
Lovely video! I love miso soup 😋
I love miso soup too, as you may know! 😆
Hii your garden is good and Japanese food is so delicious ❤

I American and I slurp my noodles when I eat them always have since I was,a kid I love watching your videos cute pictures like to see more pictures
Thank you for your comment! Oh, you slurp too! 👀
If I find more pictures, I'll introduce them :)
I'll try your style of Ramen! normally I use long green onions, carrots, ginger and garlic - but this should be a nice change with the spinach and tofu !
Hahaha, This is a quick and easy (but delicious) ramen 😆
@@life_in_nagasaki thank you for presenting us with these calming videos. I especially enjoy the rain, over here in Europe it's really hot and exhausting!
Hi from Russia! Please smile next time)) And I liked this video, thank you!
Hi from Nagasaki! Oh, sorry... I just realized I'm not very good at smiling for the camera 😂.
@@life_in_nagasaki it’s okay, I saw your video where you ask if you should talk in English or Japanese instead of making subtitles. It seems to me that you can smile 😜
Gonna try tea with carbonated water, cheers 😊
wow interesting experience
Thanks😌
After using insect foggers for a few years now I've read that it is actually not recommended to vacuum or wipe for a few days because the pesticide residue needs to stay on the floor to keep killing insects and their eggs. I found it did work better that way.
OMG...😱 I hope it worked well..!!
@life_in_nagasaki I think it will be fine since you've bombed the house more than one time it will OK! Lol I didn't know that either until one day I sat and read the tiny print on the box and I had the same reaction like omg oh no!!!😅😂
Carbonated tea ! Now why didn't I think of that before.
Slurping sounds ? Just like home.
Carbonated tea was really tasty and is highly recommended :)
Hello from Brazil 🇧🇷 I liked the video 😊
Hello from Nagasaki🇯🇵🤝🇧🇷
What is the spray and smoke you used in the tatami floor?
It's a pesticide for exterminating mites and pests. It's commonly sold in pharmacies in Japan📝
GREAT flipping that potato gratin😊 I really need to ask how much you would charge to clean my house, that was quite a workout doing all that cleaning…Maybe you can find a very large yoga ball, cut it open and stuff your futons in it when you need to clean them, and you can “ roll” your futons to the cleaners instead of carrying them😂…thanks for sharing
Hahaha, that’s a better way to carry the futon, but the problem is I won’t be able to stop the ball once it starts rolling down the slope 🤣
Sempre bom aprender.
Aqui temperados ele com alho, sal e óleo e vocês?
Again, a lovely video. What kind of tea are you using? Sencha or bancha?
Hi Maria! Maybe it's Sencha, I guess. 📝
I enjoy your videos, as always. When will you be doing a Q&A video? I'm looking forward to that.
Thank you for your question! I'm planning to gather questions when my channel reaches 9,000 subscribers and to upload a Q&A video after reaching 10,000 subscribers! ☺️
