- On this week’s episode of History and Relics we’ll be talking about the legendary country music star Hank Williams Sr. and particularly his final tour which lead him to Oak Hill, West Virginia in route to a scheduled show in Canton, Ohio that unfortunately he never got to play as he was found dead in the backseat of his baby blue Cadillac Convertible while making a stop in Oakhill.
And that last stop of Hanks in West Virginia is still around today and we’re paying a visit there and want to bring you along with us.
So please join today on History and Relics.

Been to oak hill wv
Great! Nice small town. Did you grab a burger at the Last Stop? Thanks for watching the video!
Hank the king of country music. A voice like no other.
We agree 100%. Thanks for watching the video and for stopping by. We appreciate you. Have a great weekend!
HANK WILLIAMS IS THE KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC
HAPPY 4TH ANNIVERSARY TO NEYSA AND RICKY GREEN ON THEIR OPENING OF THE SKYLINE DRIVE - IN ---- ALSO KNOWN AS HANK'S LAST STOP CAFE - IN OAK HILL VIRGINIA
Im really confused about one part of the story. where did hank tell his driver he didnt want anything to eat? Ive seen videos claiming 2 places. the skyline drive in, and the burger bar in knoxville.
There is alot of cloudiness on what transpired and where when they were on the road. My research may not be absolutely perfect but the chronology is good. I had to keep things generic or broad in some terms as I found conflicting facts or other data. From what I had found, it was this little burger joint in Oak Hill WV where Hank said he didn’t want anything to eat. We may never know 100% what happened nor where but it’s certainly a sad story to one of the greatest country music legends ever. Thank you for watching. Best regards.
@@historyandrelics i hope i didnt offend you by " correcting " you. not saying youre wrong. just saying other things i heard. I think, logically speaking, if they claim rigor mortis was set in in oak hill, wv, then he had to have died at least 2 hours before that.
@@footloosewill5569 no offense taken at all. This is why I didn’t give a whole lot of detail as there are a lot of theories out there and probabilities. The best statement in the video was that he likely passed somewhere in between the hotel in Knoxville TN and the burger joint in WV. Exactly where or when I think is truly any one’s guess and where only Hank and/or Charles knows that truth.
I believe that happened at The Burger Bar in Bristol Virginia where it is officially the last place he was seen alive. I've read that the Sky Line Drive In in Hilltop is where Carr only stopped to use the bathroom and to stretch his legs. The conflicting part is whether or not Carr hired a cab driver in Bristol to help drive them to Ohio and it was actually two of them in the car that found Hank dead in the backseat at the Oak Hill gas station.

I believe I would find a period correct Police car, the 58 Ford shown had not been thought of in 53!
Thanks for the feedback but this was the closest to period I could locate that showed one for Tennessee and given the weather conditions at the time as well as somewhat in the public domain for use. It’s really used for reference or context only and would fit for the 1950’s era. Thanks for watching and best regards.
I know it's just for reference, I'm just a 65 year old car NUT! Have been my whole life! In no way did I mean any disrespect, it's just something I noticed!

@@robertoliver1350 No problem at all and no offense taken whatsoever. My Brother, who is also a car guru, would have also immediately seen this as you did. A keen eye for perfect detail especially when you have the direct knowledge or experience. I’m sure you got a chuckle when you seen this when most would not have even thought. I appreciate you and hope you enjoyed the video. It was fun to make and be there on site.
Many investigations believe he die in the hotel in Knoxville, Tn. then was moved. Lots of unanswered question about where he really died. Most of those that would know the truth have passed away so we will never know.
Yes, I agree with you. There was quite a bit of "back and forth" with facts or information as to when and where Hank died in my research. And you are correct, we'll never really know for sure as those who hold the keys are now gone. This was definitely an interesting trip especially with the snow and ice we encountered - like someone turned back the clock on us for this one! Thank you very much for watching. I've glad you stopped by and commented too. Take care!
His driver said he did tell him no when he asked him if he wanted anything to eat at the skyline cafe though.
It's kind of hard imagining a young college kid would continue driving what? Hundreds of miles with a dead corpse in the back of the car.
@@danielsmit11 I agree. There are several stories out there with varying intel and facts. Some have it more right than others but yet there are a lot of time gaps too where only the driver and Hank would know what really went on. Thanks for watching and stopping by. I appreciate you! I invite you to subscribe too if you like.
