    The woman in the council was Mon Mothma, who you saw in the briefing scene in Return of the Jedi, and in this time frame is a member of the Imperial Senate. The man was Bail Organa of Alderaan, Leia's adoptive father. His jedi friend he needed to get a message to was Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi, and his courier, who "I would trust her with my life," was Leia.

      Actually by this point in the timeline, I am pretty sure that she had publicly spoken out against the Emperor and been forced to flee, with some help from the crew of the Ghost, as we see in the episode of rebels she appears in. She would have lost her Imperial senate seat by this point in the timeline I am pretty sure.

      Mon Mothma was also the hardest goddamn card to find in the topps Jedi set. After buying untold packs I went to a comic shop, rare in those days, and bought it for like a nickel. I still twitch when I hear that character's name.

      And unlike WB regarding the likeness of Christopher Reeve in "The Flash", Disney got permission from the estate of Peter Cushing to use his likeness and voice in this film. This movie is always a little bittersweet for me. The first time I saw it was the day that Carrie Fisher passed away. My friend and I had literally just sat down in the theater, and he decided to check his phone one last time before shutting it off before the trailers started. I almost hate to say it, since I was 7 when I first saw Star Wars IV in the theater in the 70's, but I think this might be the best SW movie of them all. The CGI is obviously better now than the special effects we had then, but it's more in the character development. The ending, with pretty much all the main characters dying, is gut wrenching... but also makes sense since we don't see them in IV. The scene with Darth Vader in the dark, then the breathing, then the lightsaber ignites... and then Vader goes full murder mode... I think that was one of the most badass scenes, ever. The way the tied the high and low moments, the way they got you to care about these characters so their deaths were all that more impactful, and the way they tied a new movie into the original trilogy- magic.

    10:57 11:54 14:05 lol hahahahahahaha!!!!!!
    22:34 That’s not Admiral Ackbar, but I understand the confusion. He’s actually Admiral Raddus. By the way, I’m also glad Jimmy Smitts returned to portray Bail Organa.
    Dude, I’m so glad you’re diving back into Star Wars. For many Rogue One is top tier. Stef Solari, Kim Ellendale, Sebscreen, and The Perfect Mix among other reactors would agree.
    You probably don’t remember, but some of the actors in this movie have also portrayed a character in the MCU. Mads Mikkelsen (Galen Erso) was Kaecillius in Doctor Strange 2016, Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) was Z’uri in Black Panther 2018, and Ben Mendelsohn (Orson Krennic) was Talos in Captain Marvel 2019.
    As for the prequels, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen would mutually agree that the trilogy was underrated by the critics when the films originally premiered. Furthermore, there was no social media. The general public back then had to rely on the critics, but nowadays social media for the most part controls the word of mouth. By the way, Alex Hefner recently reacted to the first six films in the franchise. Now I definitely can’t wait for him to watch this one.
    Out of all the deaths, K-2SO was the most emotional. Even as he was on his last knees, he still held on long enough to help his friends achieve their goal. My favorite characters overall were Chirrut Îmwe and Bodhi Rook.
    The Ip Man himself Donnie Yen is always a win. I also teared up as Chirrut in his dying words told his friend Baze Malbus to find him in the Force. Chirrut isn't a Jedi, but it's implied that he's Force-sensitive. He was able to sense Jyn's kyber crystal. What's special about kyber crystals is that they're connected to the Force. They're also what give power to the lightsabers.
    Bodhi also deserves credit for his contributions to the team. His protocols were highly essential, especially with infiltrating Scarif. By the way, if you put Riz Ahmed on the mic watch out. He’s got mad rapping skills as well.
    Diego Luna reprised his role as Cassian Andor for the Spanish dub. He also has his own series titled Andor which takes place five years before the events of Rogue One. And yeah, he dubbed for his show in Spanish as well.
    The first season has 12 episodes, and a second season is on the way. The recent strikes delayed production, but Diego recently said that filming is almost complete. There were also plans to make up to five seasons, but after some extensive reviewing they decided to conclude the show with season two.

Doctor Who explained it as _actually_ being The Doctor becoming friends with Mister Cushing himself after Peter Cushing starred as "Doctor Who" in a couple of American-made movies about the exploits of The Doctor. Interesting studies about empathy have been done. The more diverse your childhood, the less you see things and people not like you as outsiders. I always see it in reactors. To those of us who grew up watching sci-fi and fantasy films with lots of "weird" creatures, we see new weird creatures as "cool." To those who didn't grow up with that exposure, there is usually an automatic "othering" and they just see them as gross or weird, because they are not of their tribe. The studies were done about race and culture, but it certainly shows through reactions to film as well.

    • @timamherst-clark2699
      @timamherst-clark2699 7 місяців тому +7

      I think reading has a large part to play as well - especially reading Sci-fi and Fantasy novels when we're young. Being 'inside' other characters' heads, and seeing the world, and society, and the people around them through different characters' eyes surely has to expand the reader's tolerance and acceptance of others, and (hopefully) make them more open to new situations, and maybe seeing things from a different point of view - sci-fi and fantasy novels must surely have an even bigger effect as the reader is potentially exposed to cultures and characters that are SO different to the ones we may be familiar with on our home planet. (I'm assuming we're all Human here?) I find it hard to believe that the likes of Dumold Trump, Mad Madge Taylor Greene, Matt Rusty-Gaetz, Cruella Braverman, Niggle Farage, Jacob Rees-Smug etc. were big readers of sci-fi novels when they were growing up.

    When Mon Mothma referred to Bail Organa's "friend, the Jedi", he said "He served me well during the Clone Wars". They were referring to Sir Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan Kenobi who was now hiding on Tatooine to protect Luke. Bail then said he would send for him and Mon Mothma said "You will need someone you can trust", but she was referring not to the Jedi, but to whomever Bail Organa would send to get Obi-Wan. And at that point, when he said he would trust her with his life, he was indeed referring to Leia. But during that mission, she came under attack by Vader, and ended up recording the message pleading "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope" and hid it in R2-D2.

    Ashleigh, you mentioned the use of green screens and CGI for special effects and what the actors actually observe. Most recently, in particular, some of the new Star Wars series, filming scenes are often done in a device known as "The Volume." It's essentially a gigantic 360-degree OLED screens that allows the actors to see the same backgrounds that the audience sees. Essentially, it is a large virtual reality stage that surrounds the actors. It's been a really cool advancement in filming scenes that would normally only be able to use green screens.

    • @de68a
      @de68a 7 місяців тому +3

      Just some additional info:
      The ILM volume is known as the Stagecraft Volume - its shortened to "The Volume" (also in film-making a volume is any area where motion capture and compositing take place).
      Its actually 270° (not 360°) and has LED panels also on the ceiling.
      It can be CG or real site filmed footage but then is managed by software like Unreal Engine and Helios to create images and track camera movement for filming. Rotoscoping and post-prod is still required after filming, and there still are limits on lenses and angles used during filming.
      There are other CG/FX film making techniques like Imax Dome, Encore and FullDome

    @28:56 "Red 5 is gone." Yes, they put that in the movie to show you that there is an immediate opening for a replacement Red 5 for the Red Squadron of X Wings. That will become Luke's call sign in a few days when he joins the attack on the Death Star.

    33:36, which makes it even more terrifying. If any planet in the Empire gets deemed a problem, in a few hours the Death Star can pull up and destroy whole cities or the entire thing.

    I find it fascinating that one of the best movies in the Star Wars series was made simply to plug a plot hole in the original!

    Keeping all of the characters, timelines, sequels and prequels, straight in your mind can be a challenge. Big fans of a property- including me- are invested, we watch things more than once to catch the details, remind ourselves of what happens when, connect the dots, recognize even the small side characters (like ball-chin guy and his friend, who we meet in the bar with ObiWan and Luke in Ep.4), all of that stuff. Watching these in the theaters when they come out, then waiting years (or decades) in between - thank goodness today for home video, which did not exist when the originals came out. The more that is added in, the more one has to keep straight in your memory. It can be a challenge, even for fans, sometimes. But in the broad strokes at least, and in many of the details you followed along great!
    The MCU also has this challenge: the more that is added, and it all ties together, the more one has to remember, and if you miss or skip something, there can be a hole in your knowledge of events, which might make certain things confusing, but you can usually roll with it. Writers of these kinds of serial stories (book series, etc) usually try to make sure that any individual chapter can be basically understood on its own grounds at least, and its place in the grander story only adds to its depth.
    We're loving your enthusiasm for the Star Wars universe; we look forward to your continued exploration of this grand, epic, mythological story...

    I got so upset watching this moving, you see we went to see this in 3D the week of december release, then Carrie Fisher passed away a week later, we then went to see it again in 2D the following week, it was so upsetting to see her again knowing she had just passed away. Not a dry eye in the movie theatre.

    The whole ending of this movie was completely reworked after principal filming wrapped. It is surprising how well it came together. But nobody told the maker of the trailer, who included an iconic shot of Jenn Urso facing off against a Tie Fighter... that was not in the final film.

      They shot that scene specifically _for_ the trailer, without it being in the film. In the end, it wasn't incorporated into the film.

    Rogue one is actually a good war film in its own right, though a science fantasy my vie.
    It has many war film tropes like the guns of navarone, where eagles date as well as others.
    I'd suggest if you love starwars watch the dambusters 1955 the script for the attack.on the death star is lifted from that movie, that was based on the real.raid 17th May 1943 and Gibsons own book 'enemy coast ahead-
