  • Here I start to work on a new human size ceramic sculpture. This series are called Shrine. You can see I sketched the design, and then used varies of handbuilding techniques to build horse legs and upper sections. I hope you find this video satisfying to watch. You can also find other parts of this series through the links below.
    Part 1: • How to make human size...
    Part 2: • How to make human size...
    Part 3 (Final): • How to make human size...
    Chapters:
    00:00 Sketching
    01:06 Handbuilding clay sculptures
    01:47 Making horse legs
    09:41 Applying white slip to horse legs
    11:10 Coilbuiding upper piece
    15:00 Punching holes
    16:30 Cleaning and please subscribe
    The video recorded the process of how I work on ceramic sculptures. It is slow, quiet, somethings might be boring, but you may find it is satisfying to watch, too. I will make more of this if you like it. Please subscribe to my channel for more videos on ceramic art sculptures.

    • @Liangceramicstudio

    Hi! Is this Clay “paper Clay “? Or Pottery Clay ?.... im having problems to find the right one .. what i find sometimes are with a lot of particules and dry very fast.. so fast that Start to have cracks...i dont know if theres something with the dry weather or it is the Clay ... love all your work ! You are amazing!

    • @Liangceramicstudio
      @Liangceramicstudio  3 роки тому +1

      I am using commercial stoneware clay for this piece. Actually, particles are good for preventing cracks. You may need to slow down the drying process by covering your finished piece with a plastic bag. I usually change the plastic bag into cloth after one or two days to let it dry faster. It all depends on your piece and the humidity of your studio.

      Thank you! A recently published book "Handbuilt Ceramics" by Jo Taylor, with my works among with several other ceramic artists, is really useful to see different approaches of handbuilding ceramics. I might be biased though... Another great book "Electric Kiln Ceramics: A Guide to Clays, Glazes, and Electric Kilns" by Richard Zakin, Frederick Bartolovic, and Sherman Hall is one of my favorite to start with. Please feel free to let me know if you have other questions later working with clay.

I am quite curious about the possible discrepancies between real and practical difficulties, and easy-looking and smooth demonstrations of this beautiful art form... What would your opinion be? May I ask; really, what are the difficulties and hardships of this craft at different levels of perspectives that one would experience as going from being a novice to an expert? Thank you so much!
