I listen and I don't believe. This riff at the beginning, middle and end, which reminds you of a classical composition, is inspired by Hungarian folk music. I am from Serbia and that music is very popular here. You can clearly hear a guitar that sounds like a violin with low tones, tambourines, accordions, etc. I would like a musician from that region to confirm what exactly we are listening to in this riff. And that takes about 18 seconds. Everyone here knows that, but I have to repeat, Kanami is a genius. Wonderful!

The best thing is: they’ve sat on this for over a year (maybe even two). They wrote it on commission for an anime’s 3rd season. Kanami recorded the rhythm guitar parts on the original recording. In the meantime, she wrote a couple slower songs with similar chord progressions and guitar techniques as etudes for Mike to practice for when they’d be able to play this live. Now THAT is a level of professionalism, musicianship and respect for their audience (as well as a great work ethic) that is not often seen.

For anyone who doesn't know, this song is a non-album single. It was commissioned as an anime opening (Log Horizon 3, if I'm not mistaken). This is Band-Maid's last song released under their contract with Revolver Records. Their new album, on their new label, Pony Canyon, comes out in January.

That was truly "Different." That was the most original piece of music that I have ever heard. Kanami studied music theory when she was in school. I think she took good notes and studied. Awesome review Nerd.
What you didn't know is that so many people discovered band-maid because of this lock down and thanks to UA-cam. Now we can't wait to go to their live show!
Band-Maid is finally putting English subtitles /cc in their music videos after 7 years. Could be because they are getting more recognition now & blowing up even bigger internationally, even though they've had a huge following since their debut. This beat is familiar though, almost a circus atmosphere or Gypsy-like or Jewish or southern European, & like you were saying 16-17th century, idk.

Nice reaction. Wait till you check out the flip side to this release: the instrumental Don't Be Long. It's crazy wonderful. Kanami apparently wrote it as a training exercise for Miku, so Miku could learn to play this song Different (which she does beautifully). But you're in for a treat. Would love to hear you react to that one. :)
Lead Guitarist: Kanami. I called her Kanami Tsunami a while back but it never caught on lol. VOCAL: Saiki BASS: Misa DRUM: Akane (aka "the gorilla") RHYTHM: Miku (founding member) I agree with everything you said! Every time they break out a new album they are ALWAYS better. Musically they never stop growing, not just technical proficiency but the complexity of the music itself. You've been Band-Maided! Just like I was 5 years ago.
The tempos, vocal styles, mood, etc all change throughout these - check them out! Devon Townsend - Kingdom Cradle of Filth - Nymphetamine Slipknot - The Nameless Lamb of God - Overlord Mushroomhead - We Are the Truth
I've seen or heard everthing by them. They play like single enity with such ness. To think they've been together since 2014. One my favorites is freedom in of Onset live
Lead Vocals: Saiki Lead Guitar: Kanami (she composes the music) Rhythm Guitar/Backup Vocal: Miku (Pigeon girl, she founded the band) Bass: Misa Drums: Akane They are awesome!! They also added English subs to this song if you want to see all the lyrics. Band-Maid rocks!!!
Unbelievable. Fantastic. Damn. Wow. The greatest rock and roll band of today and maybe forever. sorry Judas Priest, I think you just fell to number two on my list.
Is quite funny, they have all been in lockdown obviously, so Kanami's sending all her demo's over the internet to fellow band members including this one. Akane, Drums (Tokyo School of Music Grad) plus at least 6 other instruments, sent reply "This is HARD". In this recording Kanami plays both lead and rhythm guitar and wrote the B side to this single, an instrumental which is AWESOME, so Miku could practice her Diminished 7th chords at speed so She could perfom it live! What a Guitarist Sensei ! .... Misa, also (Tokyo School of Music Grad), "Whatever" :)
This song is the opening sequence for an anime - Log Horizon Round Table Collapse - This is the link for that video sequence. www6.nhk.or.jp/anime/special/special.html?i=10060
the main riff is a very Japanese melody. It was fast and pumping, but... the main riff for me was.. not their best fit. And the Wall of Noise ate up a lot of space for Misa and Akane on bass and drums. Also the sheer BPM (200...210?) means that they really simplified their lines compared to my favorite pieces. Still, I can see halfway or 2/3 through the show when energy starts to flag naturally, this would pump it up, like when Metallica kicks out Whiplash. So while far from a top 10 track for me, from Band Maid, I think it'll be a great song to experience at the concert.
So I went to the shop to get something for dinner (Uk time) and when I came back, this little present was waiting for me :) it's a bit frenetic and lacks their usual melodic Chorus, but it's nice to have another different take from them :)
The first time I hear this song was yesterdays's ads for Log Horizon, at first it sounds too chaotic, seeing them play makes it better than seeing a bunch of anime faces pop up with out of sync visuals,
The intro had all the hallmarks of music being played to entice people to the circus or travelling shows, "lets go its showtime" followed by .... thats my take on it as I have heard that style of riff used for clowns etc on movies with circuses!! Also its different compared to their other songs in its round Robin solos!! This bodes well for their new album!! 😎
you mention neil peart in regards to akane, but some people forget the best rock band ever was LZ. word has it that jimi page considered akane one of thebest drummers he's ever seen. there is a picture going around of jimi and akane, ive seen it. recognition from a rock god says it all. that was my first reaction to bandmaid it was thrill, ikn but it hit deep. thanks for the honesty in your reactions.
The diversity shows itself again! Lovebites has two songs, Jinjer has maybe four. Band-Maid is the 'go to' for never the same song again, and all GREAT!

VOCAL: Saiki
BASS: Misa
DRUM: Akane (aka "the gorilla")
RHYTHM: Miku (founding member)
I agree with everything you said! Every time they break out a new album they are ALWAYS better. Musically they never stop growing, not just technical proficiency but the complexity of the music itself. You've been Band-Maided!
Just like I was 5 years ago.
Akane: BEAST MODE ENGAGED
Wow! didn't know the Maid's had a pet Krakken!
The tempos, vocal styles, mood, etc all change throughout these - check them out!
Devon Townsend - Kingdom
Cradle of Filth - Nymphetamine
Slipknot - The Nameless
Lamb of God - Overlord
Mushroomhead - We Are the Truth
I've seen or heard everthing by them. They play like single enity with such ness. To think they've been together since 2014. One my favorites is freedom in of Onset live
Lead Vocals: Saiki
Lead Guitar: Kanami (she composes the music)
Rhythm Guitar/Backup Vocal: Miku (Pigeon girl, she founded the band)
Bass: Misa
Drums: Akane
They are awesome!! They also added English subs to this song if you want to see all the lyrics. Band-Maid rocks!!!
Unbelievable. Fantastic. Damn. Wow. The greatest rock and roll band of today and maybe forever. sorry Judas Priest, I think you just fell to number two on my list.
This song woke me up for the rest of the week.
Hit the captions on this one. There's a full English translation.
just an FYI this one has english CCs ;) wonder if they will play this on 12/13 live @Online Okyu-ji 3? something to look forward to!
Is quite funny, they have all been in lockdown obviously, so Kanami's
sending all her demo's over the internet to fellow band members
including this one. Akane, Drums (Tokyo School of Music Grad) plus at
least 6 other instruments, sent reply "This is HARD". In this recording
Kanami plays both lead and rhythm guitar and wrote the B side to this
single, an instrumental which is AWESOME, so Miku could practice her
Diminished 7th chords at speed so She could perfom it live! What a
Guitarist Sensei ! .... Misa, also (Tokyo School of Music Grad),
"Whatever" :)
This song is the opening sequence for an anime - Log Horizon Round Table Collapse - This is the link for that video sequence. www6.nhk.or.jp/anime/special/special.html?i=10060
You are too nice "an emergency reaction"😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
His genuine happiness..
QUEENS
YESSS, MORE BAND MAID
the main riff is a very Japanese melody.
Good show-opening tune! Frenetic!
Completely blown away....🔥 🧨 💣
Check out the epic hair whip at 4:21
Unleash the archers, tonight we ride.
So I went to the shop to get something for dinner (Uk time) and when I came back, this little present was waiting for me :)
it's a bit frenetic and lacks their usual melodic Chorus, but it's nice to have another different take from them :)
The first time I hear this song was yesterdays's ads for Log Horizon, at first it sounds too chaotic, seeing them play makes it better than seeing a bunch of anime faces pop up with out of sync visuals,
It’s the first time I feel that Japanese animators can’t handle / keep up with the OP song they chose.
Saiki bass tone is melting me💖💖💖💖
The intro had all the hallmarks of music being played to entice people to the circus or travelling shows, "lets go its showtime" followed by .... thats my take on it as I have heard that style of riff used for clowns etc on movies with circuses!!
So fast reaction and good on detail, subscribed.
Thai Fans ♥♥♥♥♥ Band-Maid
The diversity shows itself again! Lovebites has two songs, Jinjer has maybe four.
Band-Maid is the 'go to' for never the same song again, and all GREAT!
New subscriber! Great reaction! You got on this one FAST!
just Re-donk-ulous how good they are not only playing but the writing. They are turning me like the Vapors. OldSkule should catch that reference.
Waiting for my preordered First Press limited edition new full cd, Unseen World releasing 20 january. Maybe it reaches me in February but ohhh the waiting is so long!
I love this is going to be the opening song for log horizon.
At 3:27 that sound actually made me think of an A-10 Thunderbolt's gatling gun lol Akane is officially a military machine!
Her hands are so fast.
If you love this one you’ll love Bullseye by NaNo. BANGER!
i first listen of this song was by a reactor and did the ANIME trailer so when i watched it looks really good im gonna check it out.the i saw this video and i went wait a minute this song sounds the same and i found out it was. Awesooomeee c-ya
punk hard rock band at its best
Of Miku's snarky vocals I'm not sure which I prefer most. "Back out now" in this or "make up your mind" in moratorium. I love your comparison to classical violins.
Reaction too early! Great!🤣
This song is already my favorite song!
Great reaction and review! !
You can checkout GLORY, one of the intense music from them
Wooow, this was fast, they heard you and they give subtitles too,
