I do understand the nerf, when I first saw the new meads I instantly thought about the cape and the multiplying bonuses, as a dev behind the buttons I would have probably made the same call, it's standard procedure.
Which does not mean I agree with it.
If there are other stacking bonuses (boss powers/items + new potions), then those items/boss powers should also be addressed in the same manner.
LE: what's the point in doing this now, with over 1 year development time left for Deep North/1.0? It's not like you're going to use that cape outside mistlands during progress (so excluding fun activities/fooling around eh)

The point of the weakness to fire was to make it less of an auto use and if they take the jumping benefits off it, should remove that weakness entirely then. It then goes from an auto use to a determination of utility. Do I want the benefits of the slow fall and no fall damage or do I want X.

It was a nice QoL, it's not the best change, considering that people won't make a whole potion that is a consumable with duration time just to get that small QoL feature. Maybe if we had a pouch/backpack like item that you equip such as the wisp or the belt, which provides you with more space to store away unused items. For example, if you are about to go raid a fuling village or fight a boss you don't need your axe, pickaxe, hoe, hammer or stuff like that in your inventory so just put them in the pouch/backpack and replace with potions or such! Stuff in the pouch is inaccessible unless pouch is equipped so you can't actively use extra space and carry 450 weight at the same time, but still can carry more lightweight items.

I can't say I'm a fan of nerfing a currently existing item just to give that quality to a new item. That being said, if the new potion were to stack with the old cape, it would've been kinda op. Honestly, they should just leave the cape as it is, make the buffs *not* stack, and gate the lightfoot mead behind defeating Yag. That way, you can have *some* of the cape's benefits when you begin exploring Mistlands, but will still have to put in the work to actually get the cape, and if the jump buff doesn't stack, no chance of it being op. Bang- everyone's happy.

Personally, I'm more mad that the devs are too focused on nerfing good items instead of buffing bad items. I really don't think a little extra jump height is something insane and game breaking and personally when I heard we were getting a jump boost potion I was excited to see how high I'd be able to go with the cape on. For a game that has very little PvP in it, I don't think it needs to nerf strong items as much as it should buff weaker items. The problem with the feather cape isn't that it's super overpowered, it's just really good and currently the only competition it has is the askavin cape. I do like that the devs are balancing things though because it gives me hope that soon some of the extremely underused items will be rebalanced in the future.

I enjoyed the jump bonus that was **added** to the cape, but I'm fine without it. I think it makes a lot of sense to move that kind of buff effect to a mead, honestly. That said, I WANT MORE INVENTORY SPACE. I already felt that the limited space was frustrating in the wake of Ashlands, and now with the Bog Witch adding even more potions to the pool, I anticipate managing inventory is going to be an even bigger issue.
I already suggested this on their website, but I'll leave it here:
Provide a separate panel for equipment slots (like many other games do). Head, chest, legs, weapon, and trinket slots.
Provide at least one slot dedicated to ammunition.
Provide at least one slot dedicated to potions.
I'm a hobbyist developer, so I know these changes are way more difficult to make than it seems, but freeing up inventory slots would improve the experience of the game SO MUCH, in my opinion, and worth the effort.

They should keep the jump height bonus and the potion, but make the potion obtainable before the mistlands, say in the moutain biome. That way, you'd be able to get the potion in the mountain where it would be useful, use it again in the mistlands, then finally be able to stop using it when you get the cape. Basically the same as needing frost resistance potions up until you get the wolf cape.

So now we have more potions... BUT where is the space in the backpack to have them?
In order to go to the mistlands we need...
    1) Armor (4 slots)
    2) Food (3 slots)
    3) Weapons (3 to 4 slots)
    4) Potions of health, stamina, fire res and now bonus jump (4 slots)
    5) 10 wood (1 slot)
    6) Portal (3 slots)
    7) Wisp torchs (2 slots)
    8) Wisp (1 slot)
22 F-ING SLOTS just to go to mistlands!
And the worse? How much of weigth is in the backpack?
Sorry, but 3 things need to happen:
    1) They delete the potion and move the bonus to the cape
    2) They change the potion to need hare trophy and move the bonus to the cape
    3) They make more space in the inventory or make "backpacks" in order to increase our inventory capacity (slots, but not weight). or at least a belt of potions (2 slots).

The lightfoot mead wouldn't be an issue if the devs weren't so stubborn about the current inventory. They keep adding more stuff to the game for us to carry but they don't give us any room to carry it. The tiny stack sizes don't help either. At the bare minimum, we need the equipment and quick slots mod for vanilla. That alone frees up an entire row. A backpack also wouldn't hurt. This game isn't even worth playing without mods because of crap like this. There's nothing fun or challenging about inventory/chest storage management simulator.

It's a stupid change tbh, I guess the Devs can't do a simple code to prevent the cape stacks with the potion, right? Bro, the cape is a pretty late item, it's not like you really need to fucking be so mad about a simple 20% bonus in jump, it will not make any difference, in fact, makes kinda "ok" the fact that you need to travel mistlands and all of their cluncky ass mountains... One of the biggest issue (for me and other ppl I have read bout) is the fact that your character can carry 3 peanuts and all of the armour and weapons have to be in the main inventory, guess if they wanna add so much shit to the game, they also could add a couple of extra space just for the goddamn armour, right?
This game (in my opinion) have a really bad balance when we talk about the envirompent. May not be so difficoult to make the new armour set in every biome, but when we talk bout the materials needed to upgrade it and making it "competent enough" to not get 1 shot when a dumbass with 2 stars appear., the expenses get really high and farming it's not the most enjojable thing to do in any sandbox or rpg, and not enough with that, when you decide to go and face the next boss and get ready to explore a new biome, SURPRISE SURPRISE, your fully upgraded armour is kinda useless against the next minions you need to face, to keep the boring cicle of farming to get the next set, just to throw your old one in a random box or display in a random place, and the only next time you actually gonna use it, is when another 2 fucking star minion decides to 1 or 2 shots you in some random place, so you need to go for the last "best set" to try to recover the old one... You can call it "skill issue", but it also feels like the devs are more focused in "making the game feel hard" by putting a lot of enemys, make the weather just awful, put a lot of random mountains and cliffs around the area, but keeping all the enemys as simple as posible, with no new mechanics or something (yeah, ashlands and mistlands fits right here), and now, nerfing a good item, when it can just be a lil change in code to prevent the stack of both items, so if you wanna go ashlands with the cape, you need a fire res pot, or if u wanna go with something else, might wanna try the jump pot, but instead of actually making the new enviropment more challenging, and also letting you use all the things that you have been farming and making since the beggining, nah, let's nerf the cape cuz a lot of ppl uses it...
WIth this change I feel like the ppl that were using the cape in ashlands for the transport bennefits, will just box their capes to use something that doesn't make you more vulnerable to the fire, and the cicle of farming and just using something for the correspondent biome keep on going... For me it's sad to see that some of the tools and powers just become useless, it's not like there's a lot of options for what to use in the next biome, just need to go, get the materials over and over, craft and uprgrade till max, go and face the new boss and use the new equipment until the next version of valheim is available and the cicle repits...
Taking all of that appart, Valheim is a great game, I love the building, the views, playing with friends and making our own viking world. But it feels kinda unbalanced when you see that DarkSouls or any game alike IN FACT LET YOU FINISH ALL THE GAME WITHOUT HAVING ANY KIND OF UPGRADE, PURE SKILL... Well, wanna see that in Valheim too, let me use the set armour I wanna, let it be upgraded to make me feel that the hours I invested in crafting it actually ment something, if there's a lot of other games where you can just grab a random bonk weapon and let you upgrade till make it good enough to finish the game, why in this game feels like all the "progress" you make would not mean shiet cause the new version need you to craft the next best set to kinda have a chance to finish that biome, a waste of time and just to make a fake sense of difficulty, but well, keep sucking the devs, that's why mods are the thing that actually makes the game interesting.

I don't like tracking and taking care of a multitude of time-dependent things; eat food, take a potion, oh I forgot my potions, oh the portion ran out, oh I have no room for another potion; and then multiply all that; it ends up being a QoL debuff, not just a cape debuff. The actual debuff itself is not so important as the unintended (really I'd have to say the devs know what a bottleneck they've created and keep adding to) consequences.

@@SpazzyjonesGaming For sure but that all contributes to overall lowering of QoL. Even if there were a larger inventory scheme, it gets to be a lot of fiddling around to maintain the supply chain and remembering to be contextually ready with the right potions at the right time. I like the trend where the resistances to, or perks are cleverly built into armor, more of a set it and forget it approach where the adventure and decision is to acquire those mats of interest to use; much more immersive in my mind than going to a new vendor to buy some stuff at gated intervals.
The real bugaboo to the cape is the awful debuff because it is not linear as it relates to armor synergy. Fire is fire, poison is poison, it shouldn't be affected by one's level of armor unless that armor is specifically perked or debuffed, which the cape is. The debuff is fine if that's what the devs want, just removed the armor synergy that multiplies the effect (to the positive or the negative) in the background.

I am glad for the most part that the Valheim community tends to be better, but it still has its fringe of haters that have nothing better to do than complain.

Hard feelings here, I like to have an epic end game item (or item set), and the feather cape was that before the Ashlands, but now there's options with pros and cons. As far as I know the fall damage elimination is ONLY on the feather cape but the burn weakness makes it dangerous (one Gjall surprise and it's time to search for your own tombstone). The newer capes are nice, but lack the fall damage solution. Sadly the inventory space is too small to carry a couple capes on you, lolz.
I think there's too much bad diversity in the game. I would have liked it more if the newer craft stations would replace the old ones (Artisan table instead of workbench, black forge instead of forge, etc), or at least the newer stations should be able to repair more items.

The argument of "but making the potion is trivial now" just means the potion isn't a necessary element in the game... Also the "balance" is already established the way it is, so that doesn't seem to be a realistic issue. Personally i would be fine if the cape offered nothing but weakness to fire, resistance to cold and the feather falling effect.
Weakness to fire gives incentive to change it as fast as you can when you are going to the next biome, OR a risk to be reckoned with while using it.
Resistance to cold gives QOL of being able to go to previous biome (mountains) without having to search for those cold res meads or old capes.
Feather falling effect is in itself such an op effect that the cape would be worth wearing even in Ashlands.
Valheim isn't a finished game, so buffs and nerfs are expected to come, and imo people shouldn't be so hurt as we don't know if there isn't an even better cape around the corner (hope there is).

I personally hate this. I've been playing through the Ashlands for the first time recently because I've been playing with friends and wanted to play through it blind with them. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement, my three friends hate the biome, and I can't say I'm exactly fond of it either even though my excitement for new content is doing a lot of heavy lifting. The biggest issue is the lag, we have had constant issues with lag when more than one or two of us are in the Ashlands. Which is making it annoying for them and impossible for me since it's just exasperating the latency issues I already had. I've changed the way I play to mostly jumping around to avoid damage while I support the group with the staff of protection (which if you've never experienced with lag, it fucking sucks) and summoning roots when I can. I suspect without the jump height it's going to spend less time airborne and more time trying to jump with my lag issues, and that'll hurt a lot. So I really think I'll have to add this extra tedium of farming hares and making these meads to preparation, as well as carry them in my already cramped inventory. It's not like I can switch capes either because of how necessary the feather fall is to the way I'm playing. So even for a balance change I don't get to see any benefits to it. The only thing that changes is that I'm just wasting some of the limited time we can get together to play on extra prep.
Tldr Ashlands is shit and that's a lot more annoying than this balance change.

I’m working on finishing my 1st play through after rage quitting when the game was pretty much a few weeks old. I’ve just now made it to the mistlands and missed the cape in its previous states so I’m certainly biased, but it seemed broken on paper. 300 hours played and I’m bonkers impressed with how far the game improved since its release. I truly don’t understand the folks saying the devs suck, everything I’ve seen from release to now is significantly better. I FUCKING LOVE VALHEIM.

You actually made the video, that's hilarious dx I have been looking through Reddit recently for Bog Witch update info and this case is really entertaining, apart from bridges dominance
I am not enthusiastic about the change, the jump potion will be nearly always used with the cape because of the unforgiving fall damage. Maybe the jump increase could be moved to lvl 4 cape since apart from Ashen cape there is no point in upgrading them (unless single points of armor and even larger durability is essential for you). This could require some effort to get all those benefits

    • @danieljaworski7239

@@SpazzyjonesGaming From the look of it the feather cape is more of a mage equipment (it also somewhat helps in evasion what is crucial for mages) so maybeee it could get some synergies with Embla/Eitr set? On the other hand, there could be some kind of offensive cape for Mistlands to give players the choice like hare cape that could boost jumping and speed or cape from seekers trophy that could give some more armor than a typical cape (but not more than Ashen cape) and could enable higher jumping on the basis of 'using wings' to assist the jumping through Mistland ATROCIOUS rock formations...
Going to the meads with this buff is... somehow understandable considering the nature of this buff but at the end of the day this potion will end up like the swimming one that is also reasonable in terms of the buff but not in the Valheim playstyle. The only important potions are imo the troll one and the one for running (and maybe berserkir, but it will require more set up to use). I have already caught around 60 Trollfishes to make them to help me with Flametal transport in Ashlands dx

I don't really mind. People will always complain, the game isn't particularly punishing and smoothing out the power curve is fine in my eyes.
The game is moddable too, though I've never come across such an anti modding community in a moddable game, it's very strange. Most games that stand the test of time that aren't live service do so on the shoulders of the modding community.
