Agreed, his positional play is on point. That way he conserves a lot of energy.
Simon Gauzy was a bit impatient. He shot every single ball away instead of playing save. It followed that he struggel and loosed so many points.

In the first set the Timing of timo was absolutley perfect
Great match. Boll keeps Gauzy guessing where he is going to place the ball. So although Boll moves slow, he still dictates the table.

Complete unsportsmanlike behavior by ovtcharov to leave during timos match at the beginning of it.
he was warming up for his match against Lebesson and came back later on.
Timo has been a legend, but Simon has morphed into a wizard with French artistry! It's amazing to watch him play all those sorcery injected strokes..
Actually a lot of top french players show a love for these crazy sidespin transform shots.

Why is the crowd so much more vocal for Simon over Timo? Timo is one of the most loved players in the world, but the cheers for his point wins were very... subdued.
Because the tournament is played in France. Gauzy has his home crowd behind him.

No, in fact he stated multiple times that he gets really annoyed by the question lately as everyone has asked him the same thing when are you going to retire, he says he still enjoys the game very much and is in a good mental and fysical shape, maybe not the best he ever was, but still great and he does not want to stop as long as his body lets him to. At least for the next couple of years.

@@oblarski2478 that's why he's avoiding tournaments since his big 2016 injury, only playing the necessary ones.
It's amazing to see this kind of atmosphere in the table tennis match. I've been playing table tennis for years, and all I can say is that every table tennis player dreams of this kind of cheering( it doesn't matter who they cheer for😂). Amazing!

it's not necessary to use the whole tape, half of it gets the job done too.
@@thenewguy7527 no, you don't get me. I wonder why Timo boll does not fully cover the side of his blade. He covers with the side tape only 1/4 of it. What the use at this much, compared to not covering at all?

@@nealtran6844 he said in one of his glueing videos that using edge tape on the whole racquet throws off the weight and makes it play different, so he only puts the tape where he really needs it, in the one spot where it's most likely to contact the table and hurt the rubber

Where is Cassin, Quaiche and Flore? I'm sure these 3 French players can do better than Lebesson, Simon and Akkuzu
I am not sure about that. Flore is good but not consistent. In fact, except Gauzy, none of the French players stand a chance against top German players on their average day.
@@inyourface123 Yeah I know but Cassin and Quaiche did really well in their own national games, one time where Quaiche won the finals and Cassin reached semi beating Samsonov, they just lack international experience.
