I did it and I'm adopted so I had no clue! Now through ancestrydna I've found a good amount of info about my biological family. Still have relatives popping up and reaching out to me to figure out their family trees too. It's pretty awesome!
The Spain/Portugal connection is very common with the Irish communities. So is Viking (i.e. Scandinavia/Iberian Peninsula). Throughout historical invasions and ship movement throughout the European Islands! It is very common!
Truth. I saw the same thing with my dad's results that him and my Irish Grandpa had Spanish come out of the blue (Gpa being almost 18% Iberian peninsula)! Their dark hair made sense after this.

Sul you right we are not at the point of finding out our ancestors it's not like we have not created self driving cars, airplanes that could fly from country to country, virtual reality technology.
You do realize that this means absolutely nothing, right? We're not yet at the point where we can spit in a jar and have all the answers. Don't be so gullible.
The Celts that settled Britain came from the Iberian Peninsula (the Galicians, the Asturians and others in Spain are Celtic). There is a long and ancient connection between Britain and Iberians. Many British show up has having a little bit of Iberian Peninsula. Remember these genes go back thousands of years.
Louis, there are ancient connections between Ireland and the Iberian Peninsula, not only contacts but also shared Celtic roots. Also, the Scottish Gaels' ancestors immigrated from Ireland.
So um if in case English and Irish people don't know - they're genetically related to Basque people who inhabit northern Spain and South Western France. This is why so many English people show a link to Spain. It's not Iberian, it's pre-Celtic. Most Western-Europeans will have some link to Spain/France.
I got the same result with 4% Iberian; upon researching my family tree, I discovered that I'm actually descended from the Royal family of Scotland (Stuarts, etc.) and upon going even FURTHER back I found that some of the people who married into the royal family are from the areas considered the Iberian peninsula. I can't say that's accurate for everyone but for my family, it makes sense :)
I also took this test last summer. I'm Hispanic, and I found these to be the most surprising from my results: 9% Great Britain 7% Finland/Northwest Russian 4% Africa North 4% European Jewish 4% Middle East

I did mine through FamilyTreeDNA and their were some weird regions I never knew about. I then upload the same DNA test to My Heritage and the results made a lot more sense. I guess it depends a lot on the Databases these companies have.
Cris Jensen Yes, it's all based off their database. I've done 3 different companies and got slightly different results. Not really that different just more spread out a little
hey Louis i'm from Portugal and when you said you have DNA from Iberian Peninsula, i legit got so happy!! please come visit portugal, specially Sintra! it's amazing!!! and you really are a man of the world! big hug and keep doing what your amazing work!
Louis, Irish people have their origin in Iberian peninsula. Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Spanish are very close genetically speaking (atlantic people). Searh on internet a genetic map of Europe. Best!
The percentages get more accurate as they do more testing but it also has to deal with migrations and cultural boundaries constantly shifting. This causes genetic traits to become more wide-spread and harder to pin-point. As for the 4% Iberian, it could be an artifact or noise which simply means it just seems to represent Iberian genetic traits when it really doesn't or it could be that you have a 4th or 5th great grandparent who was of Iberian descent, which would be an ancestor of yours who was born sometime in the 18th or 17th century. To put it in more perspective - everyone has 64 4th-great grandparents and 128 5th-great grandparents, so it would take just one of those to be Iberian for it to show up in your genetics.
mine would be really exciting because my grandparents are from mexico, and mexican people are very mixed. Its a complete mystery for us because we know we are mixed. All the fun ones Ive watched are with Latinos honestly
Koala Rizo white Mexicans are likely to be mostly from the Iberian Peninsula and other places in Europe, whilst brown Mexicans are mixed with Native American. Some might even have African and middle eastern ancestry too from slavery and the history of Spain!
its too simplistic to go with brown or white mexicans. I have black hair and brown eyes but I am very pale. Some other people in my family like my sister are more tan, but we have the same parents. My grandma is really white. So im not sure how it would end up if i am more white or native 😶 but I get what your saying.
Koala Rizo Same my grandparents are Mexican and I want to take this test badly and I wonder what I am because I'm very pale with dark brown hair and brown eyes but my grandmother has green eyes and is very pale as well .
I kind of disagree with your comment because the skin tone of very mixed people especially Mexicans who are very mixed do not indicate what they're made more up of. within families skin tones vary from very pale to very tan but have similar features. For example a Mexican person my have a very pale skin tone but native american features and vice versa... In other words skin tone doesn't dictate what region you're likely made up of its mainly your features and tends to vary a lot and be allover the place because of years of mixing.
Remember that the autosomal DNA looks back about from about 500 to 1,000 years. Lots of migrations and conquests took place in Europe during that time, which may explain some of the surprising ancestral results
Just got my results too. I didn't know too much about my ancestry and didn't know where my family would have come from when they immigrated to the US. Found out I was 61% British, 24% Europe West, 9% Irish, 5% Eastern Europe and 1% Scandinavian. Absolutely blew my mind. Looking forward to the upcoming video with your dad.
It is not a complete puzzle: Spain had presence in central Europe, in the Netherlands, for quite some time. It make sense for a small part to find its self to your anglo-part of your DNA, considering the connection between Dutch and English.
Last time I checked, there's a huge chunk of Irish people of Basque descent from migration waves back in the Mesolithic period. Instead of red or blonde hair, they had the distinctive black/dark brown hair, therefore called "Black Irish".
I love how the "AncestryDNA" website itself says that the results aren't to be trusted too much and results depend on a lot of factors. But you're giving your freaking DNA sample to some random internet company, with your full name and everything. Plus they are asking related health questions, usable to create the perfect profile of yours. Which they take the right to publish in any scientific magazine, without anonymisation, just removing your name and birthdate (info from their website).
I like that Louis shows the results, so few have done it, they just say a few places. This was way more interesting, and fun to know that he has a bit of Swedish in him.
I actually would not do this test. first of all why would I want a company to have access to my DNA. who knows what r they gonna do in future with these information
I'd love to do this, but in the small print, AncestryDNA shares the data of your DNA with third party companies. Essentially, they can see if you have genetic predisposition to anything, even if you aren't aware of it. This can then be passed on to insurance companies, for example, and will make it pricier or more difficult for you to find insurance.
I wish Louis in the future will have his grandfather,, Mum, and sisters take the test and compare the results with his! SO INTERESTING! Thank you so much for sharing this!!
We just did this and I had 8+ ethnicities I never knew about since my Mom was adopted! We actually were linked with her Half sister and possibly her birth Mom! It's incredible!
For those with lots of Irish ancestry there were people from the Iberian area that migrated to what is now Ireland. They are colloquially known as "black Irish". That's why those with Irish heritage who do ancestry DNA results, often get Iberian too.
Hello, I am from the United States and I found your channel by doing a UA-cam search. I got back my AncestryDNA results Thursday and it says I am 93% Great Britain. According to Ancestry, I am more British than a typical British person. I knew the majority of my DNA would be British because I traced most my ancestors back to England and Scotland, but I didn't it expect it to be that high. I am getting a lot of Ancestor Hints for both my English and Scottish ancestors. I can't believe I am more British than people who live in the UK, like you. LOL! Have a good day.
I am from South West Lancashire Merseyside. I am 54% Viking 12% Irish and the rest Anglo-Saxon , going off my genealogy results to 1560. Local history and DNA results the fact that I don't have any Scandinavian relatives. I can deduce that all the Scandinavian results in my DNA are actual Viking. From the Dublin Exodus in 902. I am actual half Viking :)
Iberian peninsula will be linked heavily with the Irish, latterly Scottish connection. Northern Spanish migration up the Irish Sea goes back thousands of years, then you had Spanish Armada who fought against England they settled in Dublin alongside the Vikings who previously settled there in Ireland. They later fought alongside the Scottish Jacobite army against England in the 18th century, and settled. Then later you have the heavy migration from Ireland to Scotland and also the western cities of England such as Liverpool, and then Manchester and even Birmingham in the 19th century.
Ahhh I love your videos!!!! you're the whole reason I'm travelling!! I've walked the camino de santiago - a 900km trek across northern Spain and in about 4 hours leave to go travelling across Europe!!💙💙🌎
My family is generations long Mexican(mom)/Spanish(dad) but my DNA has Irish, German and Italian blood. Guess that explains the mix within my aunts and uncles on my mom's side. A lot of people could not believe all my aunts and uncles came from the same parents. Both my maternal grandparents have black hair and black eyes. But had kids with Black, brown, blond or red hair, black or blue eyes and dark, medium or fair skin. The youngest my uncle is blond fair with blue eyes.
So the ring overlapped a small part of Iberia, most of which looks to be of the Basque Country region. The Basques are distinct from others in Iberia and have a language that is completely different from any other language in Europe and potentially the world!
You do realize that this means absolutely nothing, right? We're not yet at the point where we can spit in a jar and have all the answers. Don't be so gullible.
Sul you keep saying that but my Dad did it and his makes perfect sense, 30% British, 24% Irish, 20% Scandinavian and the rest was all European based. He's British and if you know your history it should make sense.
I would really like to try this because my family told me I'm just plain Polish but I'd really like to find out if I have connections to another country
There are Celtic people living in Spain near Coruña in Galicia and in Asturias. Ireland and Scotland are also Celtic nations, so maybe thats why you see a small 4% in Spain.
I did a DNA test last year and Im mostly scandinavian, british and eastern european but what suprised me the most was that Im also 2 % indian/nepalese !!
I really want to do this! I have very little idea about where my family is from (I have a rough idea but I don't think many of my family actually know, it's a bit of speculation). Can't wait to watch the video with your dad!
I read an article about Ancestry that when you send them your DNA you agree to them being allowed to own, store and 'clone' your DNA and that's the only reason I haven't bought it !!
Peach which is why I'm happy I did it Africa 44%: 17% Mali 15% Nigeria 5% Benin/Togo 3% Africa southeastern Bantu 2% Cameroon/Congo 2% Senegal Europe 55%: 39% Great Britain 12% Ireland 3% Scandinavia 1% Europe East Native American 1%
So this might sound incredibly strange, but I'm thinking about getting this for my brother. His birthday is in a week and he use to be really into ancestry...and he is the most difficult person to buy for in the world (like I bought him 2 kinds of extreme hot sauce and ghost pepper beef jerky). Thank you Louis!
This is just a thought but I am sure I have heard that sailors who were part of the Spanish Armada ended up being shipwrecked on the Irish coast and stayed as migrants in Ireland. Maybe that is where the Iberian part comes from?
I can kind of explain the Iberian peninsula one: during the wars with Britain, Spanish ships often got swept away in storms and shipwrecked in Ireland. This could be why some Irish people, like myself, are somewhat olive skinned or tan extremely easily. I have also done an ancestry dna test and have the 4% Iberian peninsula but also have 2% Mongolian.. Genghis Khan perhaps? Another theory is that due to the Portuguese empire's early and extensive naval exploration, some sailors may have fooled around with Irish women etc.. history is an interesting one no doubt!
Most Irish are decended from iberian pennsiula 3000 ad, like my dad looked more Spanish than most Spanish, go figure, his skin tone and curly hair black is as you know is common in Ireland and Wales, the armada theory is a flawed theory to say the least, how could handful of Spaniards go around rapping so much women to effect the local gene pool to that extent, it's a myth, any way most Spaniards are fare in complexion, from what I can see being in Spain, more Irish can look northafrican or iberian, than what you would see in Spain today, seen Spanish kids that look more Irish than me!!!!
The Iberian blood could also most likely be Basque cuz like the Spanish the Basque are the closet genetic related people to the Irish even French Basques will have Iberian and not Europe West DNA
Bear in mind that the Great Britain category means non-Celt British. Your Scottish heritage most likely comes under Irish as it is Celt. It tests by comparing you to native people in those specific countries so your DNA is probably closer to people in Ireland than it is England. I did my Ancestry DNA so my Dad whose a genealogy expert explained it to me :)
My DNA is crazy and so is my family tree. Some of my ancestors can be traced to 900 AD. Be sure to check into the world archives project. DNA is awesome but greater with matching records!
Interesting! I also did mine this year with my dad, spouse, and grown kids. DNA results show how differently each individual person pulls genetic materials from parents. No even divisions. Throw out the 1/2 this, 1/4 that, etc. As an American expecting 50% or so German, remaining English and Irish. Results: 68% Great Britain, 15 % Europe West, 11% Europe East, 5% Scandinavia, 1% Italy/Greece, 1% Ireland. Eye opening... different than our paper trail going back 400 years.
All my ancestors are Rowntree's, of Rowntree's Sweets fame. Pretty cool, I guess. Also, a Prime Minister in there, an Admiral in there. Quite a few cool people, I've found. Gone back to 1500(and something). Definitely recommend looking into Ancestry (tree, not DNA) to trace back your family history. A few dates and locations, and you end up creating a book of people.
My family always thought we were majority ethnically German, but I took a. DNA test to find out through Ancestry and I was only 11% German (European West). I was actually mostly Italian and Scandinavian.
The Europe West would be from the Anglo-Saxons and Normans. You have an above average amount of that DNA though. The average English person is usually 36% Europe West, and 21% British. The Iberian is pretty typical for someone in the British Isles. Most Brits are haplogroup R1B which originates in Northern Spain, and came to Britain 10,000 years ago at the end of the ice age so it's pretty common to share DNA with Iberians.
They say Celtic tribes travelled from Portugal and Spain to Ireland and Britain, forced by the Roman invasion. Speciall from the Northern parts of Iberia which both my parents are from. I'm Portuguese and just ordered my test, should arrive in the post soon. Do they specify the groups and haplogroups of DNA? Ta xx
Do you think that the Iberia region of your "fringe" genetic marker (Spanish/Portuguese trace region) might have to do with the Roman empire's British occupation? Even though Roman DNA is more associated with Italy, I don't think that would discard the possibility of some ancient Iberian lineage that goes back to the Roman era. Either that, or possibly a Celt-Iberian connection? What do you think? Edit: One other possibility could be a proto Indo European or Indigenous European/Basque language family connection as the Basques of North east Spain and Southwest France are said to be related to be connected to the first Europeans. Idk just a thought.
Well apparently the Silures tribe in southern in Wales had possible genetic links to Iberia, however this is only based on Romans describing them as appearing the same.
I got my results in one week. I could not believe I got them back that fast. I am 81% Great Britain, 7% Ireland and the rest split between the Iberian Peninsula and Scandinavia. Here's the punchline, I'm American.
The Iberian / Spanish part is quite common in people from the UK and France region as one of the first human populations out of Africa that populated that part of UK/Europe came via the Iberian Coast. That 4% is they most ancient European part of him.
A number of Spaniards wound up in Scotland and Ireland when ships from the Armada were destroyed by gales in the Irish sea. It may be you have an ancestor from those shipwrecked sailors.
I did the test also. Always knew my mothers side is Italian. Now on my fathers side we were always told jokingly that our ancestors were released from a place named New Gate Prison on the condition the go to the colonies and not return. Well the test came back and a huge portion of the dna traces back to the tiny corner of the UK named England. What a surprise. LOL
I did 23andme and my results were 98.6% Southeast Asian, 0.8% Chinese, 0.3% Broadly Southern European, 0.1% South Asian, 0.1% West African and 0.1% Middle Eastern lol don't really know how fully accurate it is but I'm basically very Asian and a tiny sprinkle of everything else
My boyfriend was adopted at birth and really wants to know his roots without getting in contact with his birth family after 35 years of never knowing them, so i might get him this!
I don't know if anyone has said this already since i'm late to the video, but since your DNA is influenced by your entire ancestral history, it's likely you had ancestors that migrated from the Iberian peninsula and Scandinavia to the British isles through Western Europe. That process could have taken them centuries, with intermarriage diluting the DNA down to the small percentage you have now. My mom's DNA is actually a lot like yours, but about 76% Irish with the small percentages from Scandinavia and the Iberian Peninsula. Back during the mini ice age, a lot of people from Scandinavia migrated south in Europe in search of arable land, so a lot of europeans likely have some percentage of Scandinavian DNA.
If you're Irish or Scottish, you could maybe also say that your a little Spanish or Portuguese, too. That’s because the culture that has made Ireland as well as Scotland and Wales what they are came didn’t originate there, but in Bronze Age Central Europe in the second millennium BC - and recent genetic studies have confirmed that the migrations of the Celtic tribes led them first to the Iberian Peninsula, centuries before some headed back north to the British Isles. That would explain those 4% iberian genes there 😉
I did this a few years ago. I am 8% Irish and was so surprised. My entire map was lit up/circled except Eastern Asia. I wonder what clan my family was? Is there a way to find out?
In 2017, My brother did the ancestry DNA test from 23andMe, therefore; I just ordered the ancestry DNA test from this other company called AncestryDNA. So, in 4 to 6 weeks I will compare the results. OH YEA
Oh I did one of those ancestry DNA results .Iam from London but Bangladeshi/bengali .My results were iam south asian , East Asian/ pacific islander, the rest were small percentage of Polynesian ,native American
Mike Lesniak I watched a report on this. There's very little they can do with your DNA even if they wanted to. It's not like your social security number.
Sandcastle • I think your DNA is a little different to your data shared with Google. If you had a bad medical problem perhaps in the future but you where denied insurance before because they got there hand on your DNA data.
ive always wanted to do this, but ive already looked into it myself traced my family back to india, wales, ireland and london (where i live now) one of my ancestors actually used to live just up the road from me i need to upload a video about it soon xx
I remember I did the online search long time ago and I searched my name and it came up with no results. i then tried my other family members and still no results...
Ancient Celtics were in the Iberian Peninsula before they came to present day Ireland. the Celts carry Iberian DNA from being in northern Iberia. The DNA of Iberian in the Irish comes from paleohispanics.
If your mom's family is from Prussia, I'm surprised you didn't get any Eastern European! Perhaps though it was more on the German side though instead of Poland. I've done 23andme, so the regions look a bit different than your test. Very cool and thanks for sharing!
Is your blood type O Neg? BASQUE, of Northern Spain have a high percentage or RH Neg blood. One theory is that ancient-people from the Iberian Peninsula migrated into Britain.
Guys, let's be honest, Louis is 50% eyebrows

Yeah you look 15.7% Scandinavian....can definitely see it !
I wanna do this so bad!! I don't know anything about my ancestry
dazeoff same!
Same 😓!
You really dont wanna hand out your DNA to some company to do as they please.
Their DNA tests are not reliable

We have a high ratio of the Rh- gene but not different DNA lol

You wouldn't understand. I've gained 5 mill on UA-cam in six months, never done before.
It's everyday bro
Funny how people think that because their family lived in a certain part of the world, that must be where their genealogy is from. Rarely the case.
This was so interesting!! I can't wait til I get to try it!!

I've wanted to do this for soooo long! Thank you Louis!
I've always wanted to do this! It's super interesting ❤️
Then welcome to my channel to dee my dna results ! 😊❤
I am actual half Viking :)
thx for sharing! for a hot quick second you resembled Bill Nye the science guy :) I had to click the video to see for myself lol
The DNA goes back a thousand years. Iberian Peninsula was Celtic thousands of years ago.
Thats so so cool! I wish I could do that one day!!! (Also I'm early af omg)
HOLY HELL!!!! Louis I didn't recognise you at first until I saw Mr. Cole! Doubt you'd remember me from school, some good memories man!!
So the ring overlapped a small part of Iberia, most of which looks to be of the Basque Country region. The Basques are distinct from others in Iberia and have a language that is completely different from any other language in Europe and potentially the world!
im very curious to try this cuz im Puerto Rican and we have different races ancestry, Spanish, African, Native and British. i really wanna know.
National Centrist a national centrist who likes imagine by John Lennon? Hmmmmmmmm
Коммунизм!!!!!!!!
Oh wow how cool! My family is part of the MacGregor clan too :) I did my ancestry DNA a few months ago and found some really cool gems of information.
Peach I agree with you, read the same.they can do anything they want with it.especially using it for drug companies to test.don't trust this at all.
When you do the test there is a box you can accept or reject this. I rejected it.
Hope their system is never hacked.
Peach I'd be happy if they cloned me, the world needs more people like me tbh
Peach which is why I'm happy I did it

Dude, I just checked out the Family Tree tool and it is SO COOL. I found my grandma's family tree back like 8 generations. :O
So this might sound incredibly strange, but I'm thinking about getting this for my brother. His birthday is in a week and he use to be really into ancestry...and he is the most difficult person to buy for in the world (like I bought him 2 kinds of extreme hot sauce and ghost pepper beef jerky). Thank you Louis!
next video with his dad will be more interesting...
The DNA bit starts at 3:53 if you wanted to skip to the DNA bit ☺️
Another theory is that due to the Portuguese empire's early and extensive naval exploration, some sailors may have fooled around with Irish women etc.. history is an interesting one no doubt!
anony mouse I’m from Spain and I don’t tan easy. Also have a pale skin.
78% Turkic,
10% Finno-Ugric,
6% Hellenic,
6% Russian
I 'm a Crimean Tatar (Turkic people) and Mari (Finno-Ugric people) from my grandmother's side.
I've ordered one and I'm so super excited!!!!
LOL
All I know is my dads family moved from Ireland during the potato famine and I'm related to the person who invented pneumatic tyres Robert W Thomson
I did 23andme and my results were 98.6% Southeast Asian, 0.8% Chinese, 0.3% Broadly Southern European, 0.1% South Asian, 0.1% West African and 0.1% Middle Eastern lol don't really know how fully accurate it is but I'm basically very Asian and a tiny sprinkle of everything else
southeast Asian? where exactly Laos? Cambodia? Vietnam? Thailand?
My boyfriend was adopted at birth and really wants to know his roots without getting in contact with his birth family after 35 years of never knowing them, so i might get him this!
we need more videos with Papa Cole!
I think most British people have a couple of percentages around the Iberian peninsula and Scandinavia
Ancestry have a clause in the terms and conditions that allow them to store your DNA profile and even distribute it to 3rd Parties...
antscottconaty only if you tick that option on their form.
My dad is adopted so it would be so much fun to see what I get from his side!
OH YEA
Adsense must be down to partner up with a company that reveals your ancestry, wow
Oh I did one of those ancestry DNA results .Iam from London but Bangladeshi/bengali .My results were iam south asian , East Asian/ pacific islander, the rest were small percentage of Polynesian ,native American
I don't trust AncestryDNA enough to give them my dna but it would be fun to know.
What happens with your Data? Do they sell it to other companies? Hmmm not so sure its a good idea.
They don't have the right to use your DNA other than this test. It's actually illegal to use it for other things.
Mike Lesniak they can sell or share that info with other companies
panoC97 not true it says on the website that they can share the DNA with third parties
ive always wanted to do this, but ive already looked into it myself
traced my family back to india, wales, ireland and london (where i live now) one of my ancestors actually used to live just up the road from me
i need to upload a video about it soon xx
Remember when jack, finn and him were close?
I'm gonna try this too!!! Pretty fascinating!! I'm definitely a cocktail of origins haha.
I remember I did the online search long time ago and I searched my name and it came up with no results. i then tried my other family members and still no results...
yeah my grandpa is from germany
