  • Many of you have asked if I've found a community yet (i.e. a synagogue/shul) so I wanted to share where I'm at in the process. But before that, I want to say a big THANK YOU for everyone's support, not only for the many kind comments on my last video but throughout this whole experience here on UA-cam. 🥲💝 -Meorah

Hi Meorah! As a BT I’d love to hear more about your struggles/journey with implementing various halakhic restrictions that may have been challenging for you and how you overcame that. Eating kosher in the US, keeping Shabbat, etc. good luck finding your community in Yerushalayim!!

I have decided 100% that I am making Aliyah! Your videos have helped me solidify my decision. I will be coming all by myself not knowing anyone and right now I’m looking for places to live.

100% promise that if you introduce yourself to the Rebetzin and tell her you’re new you will have an invite to every Shabbos meal until eternity lol. That’s the best way to get plugged in :) halakhic jews never want someone to be without a host family for Shabbos

Hi Meorah, that Shul you visited sounds AMAZING!!! I really believe that if you have a conversation with the Rebbetzin, you might actually get connected to social activities, etc. that she may know of. I'm so happy you enjoyed it; I pictured you dancing and jumping and enjoying yourself during the service and it actually brought a lump to my throat (wanted to cry) for joy that you had such a wondrous experience. I agree it's a good idea to check out other congregations, but it sure sounds as if you have found a Shul "family"! So happy for you and it warms my heart that our comments touched your heart and were a source of comfort; that's what community is all about😀 Hashem bless and guide you!

Hello Meorah. That was a great video, and I did not expect another one so soon after yesterday's video. I think I'm beginning to understand where you're coming from. Finding community when you have moved somewhere new is always hard. I was lucky to find a good local community when I first turned to Unitarian Universalism twelve years ago, but they were in another state, and meeting them once a month still involved extensive travelling and planning. This did in fact become slightly easier when the pandemic started and we all moved to having online services and chat groups. Still, nothing beats actual and regular in-person community. Now that I am researching Judaism and reading Torah, I am getting all of my information from the internet, including UA-cam. There's one community I strongly sympathize with, and they are in New York, and I'm even watching their Shabbat services online. Meanwhile, I am in a country where all synagogues are heavily protected and not even open to outsiders (because of, you guessed it, antisemitism), so I could not simply walk in any day. If I am ever in NYC, I'll at least take advantage of the opportunity to physically visit and attend one.

Hi Meorah, I get so excited when I see you've posted a video. Thanks so much for keeping us posted and i’ll be thrilled if you post more often. Somehow, I feel like we have a little family on your channel and I feel, in a way, like you're my Aliyah friend and link to making Aliyah- even though you don't know me from Adam. It will probably be quite a long while for me but I hope and pray I will be there a עולה חדש Olah Chadash (spelling?) one day.
I’m so glad you’re in the process of finding a shul. The one you mentioned sounds wonderful.
I have a question. Do you think you might sometime be interested in talking about or even showing us how you daven at home? I am starting to pray more, starting with Shacharit. I started during this pandemic/isolation periods and am somewhat lost. I want to get a siddur but so far I've used an online siddur. I don't yet have a community but am learning some of the Shacharit blessings and prayers, incorporating Asher Yatzar throughout the day, etc.
I know it's very personal but if you ever wanted to share that, it would be great. All the best to you! 💕

Was it a Sephardic or Chassidut group?
I totally get what you expressed. It would be amazing to be in a shul with lots of energy.

thank you for sharing. it is sad/ tragic that too many jewish houses of worship- orthodox, conservative- reform- are not friendly to a newcomer. that can even be ashkenazi to ashkenazi. being a korean- american convert ; or a Black convert or Black born jew makes the person stand out. it could be a surprise or an amazement to people who never saw this before. jews need to have tough skin- no matter what color skin- both outside and inside the jewish community. everyone beware of messianic " synagogues" that are christian disguised as jewish. use hebrew, dress like orthodox jews, but
use the brit hahadasha= new testament to indicate their christian Tanakh. listen for the word :"yeshua" that is j.c. these messianic congregations are extremely friendly, especially to newcomers. christian missionaries spend billions of dollars roping in jews in many countries including israel.
they are all over the internet- youtube with channels of their testimonies and also online synagogue services that are not jewish. they are christian. they use star of david symbols and are set- up to look like synagogues. christian imposters pretending to be orthodox jews have even infiltrated the orthodox
community in israel, america, etc. you will find the right jewish shul however it might take awhile. you have been steadfast in your journey. wishing you
    all of HaShem's blessings.

As a non Jew (pagan), what happens in an orthodox synagogue on shabbat?

    • @Scienceofconscience
      @Scienceofconscience Рік тому

Hey, it's a year late, but here's an answer:
In Orthodox Judaism, we spend the Shabbat listening to Torah (the Hebrew Bible), and praying, for the most part.
