The amount of bile this announcement is causing is really quite astonishing. Have people really got so little to do in their lives that they have to spout off about something they are UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO BUY for TSW? I'm reminded of the words spoken to the rabbit, Thumper, in the Disney film Bambi that I saw in the cinema as a child: "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." Train Sim World is about the world of trains and Thomas and Friends is a big part of the train world for a lot of people.
It is interesting isn't it. It has been quite polarising. I guess some people feel that their simulator is threatened when used for not so serious aspects of our past time. I use the analogy of the heritage railway I work on as a fireman - we run Thomas on our railway and there are people on our railway who hate it because it isn't part of our heritage operations. It is fine to have the opinion, but the reality is that Thomas is a huge fund raiser and money from events like Thomas keep the heritage operations happening. Without them we'd close.
Hey I’ve got a 1 year old. But if DTG will expand this trend (and maybe release the whole island of Sodor for kids to have fun with) I’m all for it. When I was a kid I used to line up my Thomas models with my little brother and when we watched Thomas the tank engine we would play along with the television series. Good memories.
I imagine it could be possible. The original Sodor wasn't all that big, after all the layout fit on a single base board. It grew throughout the series and now that its CGI it seems to be all of the UK :). Maybe the UK is Sodor. It would explain a few things ;).
@psych-ryry that would have been great, I'm not a modern Thomas fan. The current generation is too PC and the animation too polished. I loved the jerky contrived models set against the original stories.
Okay. Here are my two cents worth. From a business point of view, this is market expansion. From a TSW player perspective, this is spoiling realism and seeing the real world and real rail operations. Regardless, it could be an interesting niche part of the game, but should not become the future core of the game. I worry about two many projects distracting from the core TSW products. For instance, the Roblox thing... Roblox has tons of rail potential but I played it and completed my station and 0 replay value so far. Another thing they should do, is if this is a narratuve thing, get actual VO and Thomas SFX and music. Dialogue boxes would be disappointing. And while West Somerset is fine for what it is, it is limited for stories with multiple trains and industries.
And further about market expansion, sure DTG, test it out with a dedicated team, but keep in mind what parents will pay for kids games versus us core players spending several hundred each year on DLC
We'll have to see how it ends up, but many heritage railways have a Thomas. I already have a Gordon I downloaded from Creaters Club. It doesn't have to be unrealistic. Those that want it should get it, those that don't can ignore it, I genuinely don't understand why people are getting so upset.
@psych-ryry we'll see what it brings, plenty of real railways run Thomas for one simple reason: money. There's a secondary reason of bums on seats that might get hooked and make a return trip. So from a realism perspective it's no worse that what my railway does through two festivals each year. Mattel control the brand pretty tightly so I expect no different this time. It'll be whatever Mattel wants. I expect it's turning up in TSW for the same two reasons that railways do it.
I too prefer the original tv series with Ringo narrating. Much prefer the models. I see this as a bit of fun and why not. I personally am not someone who takes the simulator too seriously anyway, to those that do then just carry on doing what you do, no one is making you purchase or participate. If it helps to get youngsters on board then that can't be bad.
If they have sent Thomas there on tour, why would they want to send Diesel there if hes just going to cause trouble. I know why. DTG already have an 08.
Im from era of old thomas the tank myself and fat controller i know im banned from life and i will never see light day again but that's his name everyone can f off, anyways this add on i will get in future not day 1 buy tbh but if if the island is done got to consider it tbh
I certainly won't be buying it but seeing they got Thomas the tank engine name . Is almost like they're not doing enough of it it should be making a separate route or even the island of sodor. As much as I'm disappointed with the announcement think they could of done more with it but maybe this is just a test or a starter so to speak They hyped it up so much and just seems ...lacking
@@Grumpy_Englishman well it's another steam engine at least 🤣 now we've got an E2 0-6-0 tank engine. Paint it black and you're off on Brighton Main Line 😎
@@badguy89o32 given its going to have a simpler control scheme (that I hope comes to everything) it's targeted at imo several audiences: TSW players with kids in the family, TSW who love Thomas (don't under estimate this market - people who want to relive their childhood), people with kids looking for a game for them, people who like Thomas stories and want a new game (this isn't the first, they've come out about every ten years since 1990). This is potentially a massive audience. When we run Thomas days there's plenty of mums and dads into trains using their kids and Thomas as an excuse to come to the railway.

For the fireside chat, I was hoping they were having Ringo Starr. That was my era too.

I would've like to have seen an actual fireplace in the fireside chat.
might get in trouble from Greta :)
This looks like their actual CGI model from the show. And on their table looks like the model model, the brass one.
@@chandlerbstransport422 it looked like an O scale Thomas. It was too small for 45mm and too big for OO/HO so I'm thinking O.

indeed - having Thomas does not need to be bad
I don't expect dunnies in a Thomas DLC
@psych-ryry but where will Thomas poo? Poor constipated Thomas. My engine was constipated yesterday.
I like how, because I was gifted channel membership one time, UA-cam is asking if I want to renew my channel membership
