Suppose to put rocks in a tumbler with similar hardness or the harder ones ruin the less hard. As far as the shells go, starfish are just simply dead animals that are dehydrated and you rehydrated death. That’s mainly the smell. Basically you made a ocean rot smoothy.
🤢🤢🤢
Mmmmmm ocean rot smoothie haha
regarding the lego. it shows just how indestructible plastic is and how even in the elements it will still last thousands of years getting smaller and smaller.
No it's because they float on the top of the water and the aggregate material sinks so they had much less interaction with the material
@@Chronus8888in nature plastic can sink, float, fly, tumble + everything else and it will still last for up to 500 years+
Plastic is one of the worst material on earth when we are thinking about the climate and its one of the most durable materials that we can make for cheap money.
@@Chronus8888 Then how did the aggregate end up between the pieces? And how were the pieces so worn down?
As someone who has worked extensively with plastic, I can tell you Elk is right. Plastic, especially the plastic Lego uses, take millennia to break down. And even then, it mostly just break down into smaller and smaller pieces (microplastics).
US Geological Survey: Is that a slow earthquake?
No it’s just Tyler operating seven rock rumblers again.
Wash the items, barrel, and everything else involved very well in between stages to remove all traces of the previous grit/polish media. Leaving some behind contaminates the next stage with something too coarse. Then I would add roughly 50% of the time for the next finest media. If you do 9 days for the coarse, then the next three stages would be about 13 days, 20 days, then 30 days. Each stage takes longer and longer to remove the scratches from the previous media. It's also best to sort the rocks, and put rocks of roughly the same hardness in, otherwise the harder rocks will damage the softer while tumbling. This should make things (at least the rocks,) super shiny. I thoroughly enjoy the rock tumbler videos. Keep 'em coming.
Those are some really good tips
Having a better tumbler would also help lol
Crazy to think it’s been 5 years. I started watching your videos about 5 years ago in my college dorm and have enjoyed watching the channel grow. The “leaving stuff in jars for 30 days” were my favorite.
I absolutely do NOT believe you when you say it’s been 5 years 😭 That cannot be right
yeah no shot
2 years max i think????
No hes right lmao
That's because it hasn't been 5 years it's only been 3 years
@@Zaque-TVno he's not, type in Tyler tube rock tumbler
FYI Obsidian is a 5.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, which is a scale that goes from 1-10. Diamond is a 10. So obsidian is really the middle of the road in terms of hardness.
The "white sand" in some beaches is actually disintegrated shells. And the shells you find in the beach didn't spend years tumbling, they are from living or recently dead creatures.
Isn't white sand made almost entirely out of quartz? I thought it was white because it didn't have other minerals and shell fragments in it
yup most beaches the sand is partly made up of all the crushed shells
@@Hankbob_Hillpants it can be, it can also be from the large amounts of calcium in the shells
I have looked at beach sand through a microscope once. So up close, the sand is more colourful than many people might believe. There are all sorts of shapes too, and sadly also a lot of tiny plastic particles.
Sand can also be comprised of Parrotfish poop. They eat coral and poop is out as fine white grains of sand! They make gorgeous beaches if you can ignore the process
Obsidian is hard and brittle, a lot like glass. It can be flint napped and made razor sharp. Native Americans used it for cutting tools and arrow heads. You can still find relics across the nation if you know where to hunt for them.
Obsidian is volcanic glass.
It is glass.
thanks captain obvious
I think he legit got obsidian and granite confused 😂
@@否空 not much of a captain obvious when we're talking to tyler
Love you see you run some glass. Specifically chunks of colored bottle glass.
I winced when the shook out all those nicely sorted bolts and nuts out all over the table. But I wouldn't expect less from Tyler.
Interesting. FYI the smell that was with the shells is from the starfish carcass, not the shells. The starfish were once live creatures that dies and were dried out. Shells housed living creatures such as clams and mussels but are not alive themselves. Basically the starfish flesh was dried out and when put into the rock tumble, that flesh would become soft again and rot away causing the smell.
In the future, weigh them between stages to see how much material is lost each time.
Perhaps remove one of each item at each stage to less subjectively show a progression
"This is gonna trigger somebody"
The fact that you are even capable of doing that makes you such a menace, Tyler.
right lol
My OCD senses started twitching as soon as he pulled tho box out haha. I just knew what was about to happen. I'm lucky enough with mine that if I can't control it, it doesn't bother me that much, I actually laughed 😅
Just do the seashells in the polish only and it will shine them up with minimal breaking.
You have got to reassemble the frog brother.
My suggestions for the tumbler: 1. Broken beer bottles, 2. granite, 3. marble (marmor), 4. roof tiles
Add a couple of real frogs and a bunch of lithium batteries to the list. 🎉
Time to also bring back the jar videos!
What I was thinking
i remember when you only had 36 subscribers, you have really grown this channel. thank you for you're videos!
As expected, he has not learned from the penny tumbling that gas pressure builds up when you enclose two metals with an electrolyte. Bolts are probably iron and zinc or nickel
Zinc coated?
As the coating wears off, it will expose other layers of metal
Sea glass😊
@@bspyder4310screws are normally made of two different metals - one for the outside and one for the inside
Zinc coating on iron parts can form hydrogen. For example zinc coated sprinkler pipes can form hydrogen pockets in them.
Today Tyler learns what sand is made of!
Clearly, you should put some pickles in a rock tumbler. You know you want to.
I like pickles, but even I find that disgusting.
Pretty sure I originally discovered your channel because of rock tumbler videos. Insane it's been that long.
I would like to see the rock-tumbled frog rebuilt...
Me too lol
Tyler now YOUU KNOWWW we waiting on them JAR VIDEOS 😂😂❤❤
Don't know if you've done it already, but you could add those giant multilayered jawbreakers. Or try a small geode to see if it comes out as a hollow gem at one point.
Do like office supplies, push pins, staples, pencils, pens, paper clips.
Also that studio is looking too clean, need a crazy experiment to really make the place feel like home. Spaghetti on the walls would be a good start. iPhones in the toaster or something.
Rock tumblers and Jars are what made me fall in love. I'd love to see them worked back into the uploads
I remember when my grandpa would find cool stones from Arizona and would leave them in rock tumblers for months.the finished product always looked amazing.he loved making Native American jewelry for the family.I don't think he ever sold any,it was just a passion of his.
There's no way it's been five years since he rock tumbled. I haven't even been watching this channel that long.
Man im that stoned I was like how the fk is Tyler filling that cup up so much when it's so small.. then I realised he was filling up different tubs.. 😂
glad Im not the only one watching high
4:18 right where they belong 🥲
5 years that’s crazy I didn’t know I’d been watching your channel for that long😂
Obsidian is actually very brittle and fragile, it’s essentially glass that forms when lava quickly cools down
Some pieces of deer antlers in the tumbler might look cool....
Water would soak into them and they’d splinter and fall apart
@@BillybobMcGee244Horn might be better, in that case.
Obsidian is a very sharp volcanic glass, but it is very brittle which is what made them very popular as spear tips, arrowheads, and chunks of sharp glass sticking out of a bat (known as a "macuahuitl").
Also, in terms of healing, in witchcraft black stones (it's really more colour association than it is the stones themselves from what I've noticed) are thought to be able to absorb bad energy or ward off evil spirits.
EDIT - Would not recommend eating obsidian, or any rocks.
*Salt slinks away in shame*
Why does everyone comment like they’re the CEO of tumbling. Just be quiet and watch the video 😭
Man I’ve made it for real! Smoking a blunt watching Tyler tumble sea shells at 2:30am
As an avid tumbler of rocks, I am appalled at your abuse of that tumbler.
…….but my god, so worth it 😂
Also if you want to know things about rocks, just hit a raptor up - I got a library of knowledge because my rock hyperfixation is strong 😂
I have been a subscriber since you started and man it's so nice to see how much you have grown as a youtuber. Not just views but your personality. You seem soo much more confident and to be honest you seem happier. Don't know if you were actually sad back in the day or if you were just nervous but in any case I love to see it!
4:49 PSA do not eat obsidian
I love the genre of "man trying things in garage", keep on keeping on man
The LEGOS are probably the most disturbing part of this video. The durability of the plastic is insane! It just goes to show that our man-made items will be here on earth long after we humans will be. It's sad knowing that we as a species will be the nail in the coffin regarding our own existence and that of most others considering we've been here such a short time.
Imma guess it has something to do with the lightweight nature as well as the flexibility of it. Still surprising though!
There's no clear coat on legos. It's toy for kids, it wouldn't be smart to put clear coat on it. The mold is polished, that's why the lego is shiny.
i love how tyler always builds the legos but have to take them apart
I'm thrilled you brought this back.
rock tumble noise is actually relaxing
Thank you for introducing me to a rock tumblers universe. Can't stop watching shiny rocks 😂😂😂
Oh, I needed this. Thank you. What else can we put in? Maybe something that has been assembled, like a puzzle ball, you know, the carved ball within a ball, within a ball. And maybe those metal puzzles to see if the tumbler can solve them? Maybe stuff that is too shiny. I noticed the bolts looking aged. Maybe we can get replicas of antique things and tumble them just long enough to make them more convincing?
I'd like to see copper and wood in the tumbler. Maybe the wood would be like drift wood. I would also like to see lava rocks in the tumbler.
The really cool looking "healing" stone is tiger eye jasper.
Let’s see, here are some things that might be interesting.
Multi layer circuit board, like a ram stick or cpu.
Actual stainless steel nuts and bolts, aka nothing from Amazon.
Some impact sockets.
Something cast in resin.
UA-cam play button.
Some titanium stuff.
A steak.
A thick bone.
Golf ball.
A knife and/or razor blade.
Tungsten cube.
okay redditor
@matthewloscar2893 u like being a goob?
Definitely a steak!
Resin, bone, and golf ball sound interesting to me.
The return of the rock tumblers 👏
Did the seashells continue to have a poignant smell with later tumblings?
Tumble the shaver for 30 days, see how waterproof it is
Knapp some obsidian and see how sharp they are on the sharpness tester?
The very final polish should be Dawn dish soap in water before taking them out, it cleans the polish out of the pores in the rocks.
Legos are injection molded ABS plastic. They are shiny from the smoothness. No clear coat necessary.
Just wanted to add some info, there's no coating put on the Lego, just very smooth sides to the mold the plastic is injected into.
Bring back you pulling stuff apart with the crane weight thing! Whole reason I started watching you. I loved those. Lol
A dinner place setting. Plate, fork, knife, spoon, glass, (ice cubes). Or even the hardest thing ever -grandma’s Fruitcake ?
I love how he referenced Minecraft when talking about obsidian
Watching Kill Tony, around the 32min mark, they begin discussing raw toast. Hell yea
5 yrs,Jeesh I've been watching you for way too long😂
@4:15 “I’m just gonna put all these back where they belong “ 😂😂😂
Can you bring back the jars!? You should do oven cleaner!
Hopefully next you will put things in jars again 😁
Like Martin?
Well you know you have to rock tumble some pickles before you can really close the door on the tumble saga.
A macro lens would really show the big differences between the different stages for next time
Different type of keys and see how much they can last before they stop working
Ooo good one. Could also put locks in another one and do the opposite
This guy never not once stopped talking about my stones.
Obsidian (and other hard materials) may be very wear resistant, but they're also very brittle and prone to cracking and fracturing. Once a few bits break off, they'll act as an abrasive and help smooth out the very object they came from.
5 YEARS? Dawggg i cant get it💀🙏
Have been waiting for this. Saw the tumblers in the background of a video and knew a new tumbler vid was on the way.
Metals and some glasses will off-gas.
They have gasses dissolved in them, and tumbling them will release the gasses as the material is worn down.
That's why you get ones like the nuts and bolts that explode the little dinky tumbler barrels.
5 years?!?! No way!
36:37 i think the difference is that those weren't just getting worn down by sand, rhey were knocking into each other at close range. That broke them apart and then each piece had more surface area to be affected by the grit, on top of hitting each other other and breaking into even smaller pieces. The natural process seems much gentler compared to that, and certainly takes way longer.
You should put one of those old indestructible Nokia phones in one of them 😂
Yes
he already did that
This gives me hope we might see things in jars again!!! 🙏
4 years almost 5 is insane I remember watching you're videos and loving it. Makes me feel verry old tho but you havnt changed a bit
The zinc on your screws is reacting with something in there, maybe calcium chloride. That pressure was likely hydrogen gas. You're lucky Tyler... love the video!!
Yeeeeeeeeeeah!!! I've missed these and the leaving things in jars videos
It’s criminal that he didn’t put the frog back together to compare the before and after
13:40 the difference you didn't spot is the zink coating is gone
Make an Aluminum foil ball really tight and put it in a tumbler. Maybe it'll come out super shiny lol 😆
It hasn't been 5 years, it has been 3 years since you last did it.
Well this just tells you all you need to about how plastic refuses to go away.
Wood! - different species This was really interesting. It has nudged me closer to getting a tumbler myself
Those seashells after the 1st 9 days would be cool to do a macro photo of . I need to get me a rock tumbler and do some seashells.
Run another lego kit unassembled with a minimal ammount of water so the pieces dont float. Then put it together after
I can believe it’s been 5 years I can not however believe the eviction notice was real 😂
You deserve way more views!
He gets plenty of views when he's in public.
5 years?! Have I really been watching your videos for 5 years?!
3:54 how to piss off every mechanic and other trades 😂😂😂😂
Obsidian is natural glass. It's as hard as any other chunk of glass. One of the toughest materials in Minecraft but also you power lights with redstone in Minecraft and you make pickaxes out of diamonds.
Can you believe its been five years since ive clicked a tylertube video?
5 years!
There is no shinny coating on the Lego. The mold cavities they used to make them are mirror polished. East Florida beaches are made almost entirely of ground up shell.
Ive seen every video uploaded since 2020. I absolutely love your channel
Exacto blades. Carefully, obviously... but it is Tyler lol
Could test the sharpness at each level on the sharp detector. Id be curious if they smooth out or become more sharp.
Lego doesn't have a coating, that's just the magic of ABS
BACK TO THIS CHANNEL'S ROOTS!!
As a man I genuinely appreciate you showing us your rocks!
