Thank you so much for making this video! It was exactly what I needed as I wanted to create this effect in final cut and not have to download a preset online. It's come out looking great! I made my ASMR Vlogmas intro using it for my asmr channel - Groovy Sleep Sounds. Thanks again Pal x
It took a while to track down because I didn't document as well as I should have. But the title is 'Done Runnin'. Its one of the free copyright tracks through the UA-cam Creator Studio.
I’m sure there is, but if you weren’t wanting to film with a camera, or didn’t want the effect built in, you may not want to do it on a phone. Doing it on a phone would be a much simpler and quicker approach though. :)
I don’t remember scratches being very prevalent in VHS tapes/ recordings. More so in older 8mm. I think if I wanted scratches in the footage though, I’d more than likely go the route of using assets of scratches in old film, instead of trying to create it from scratch - pun intended :) but it’s got me thinking if I could create scratches without a plug-in or overlay assets 🤔
I'm sorry, but i find it unconvincing. I can clearly see it's not analog cassette recording and playback. I'm seeing simple straight horizontal/vertical lines in the effects, constant, still, like only digital does, rather than the more complex, free moving, vibrating, unpredictable, analog fluctuations. You need to lower the resolution at some point. Maybe it's easier to fake 70's films? Also, that's a different topic, but you need to fake the way people dress and their haircut, otherwise it's just gonna look odd :p
Valid points for sure, but the point of the video wasn’t to make modern footage unrecognizable from 80s footage. It’s just a simple way to mimic the look of 80s footage, for an effect in a video. Even though it’s not perfect, if you see this, you know the looks is that of VHS. And for sure, if you are making an 80s film, costume design would be more important than any effects to the video.
VERY HELPFUL! Thanks for sharing
"here we are 2017 and we're faking it" haha awesome video man! Definitely using this technique in my next video!
