That's not what we meant by fishing trawler rework...
lmao yup…. fucksake
I feel like community picked the most complex skill for them to do feel like if it was one of the other choices we'd have it by now
I still liked the idea of taming it was very different from summoning
@@wildyoda2931ye summoning sucked but it didn’t feel radically far away from being fun. The idea of having a chill pal in your adventures is nice, the implementation of it as basically another equipslot was meh
I think sailing should be a mode of new transportation to expand the map and not a skill. While navigating can provide alternative training methods to our current skills. But trying to make sailing its own skill is feeling really forced at this point.
That's what i'm trying to imagine... like what's the viability of this? for how it looks now, it's just another transportation method along with the other thousand... and most of the time magic or amulets are supreme.. i'd like to know whether or not there will be special islands with bosses, etc.. that you can ONLY get to via sailing... otherwise, wtf is the point here?
@@stopthecap2644 agreed! And even more so, is if this is just trying to use the empty space of the game for cool new shit, why does accessing it have to require a skill? Slayer, agility and quests already put a barrier on some content. Why create another barrier?
@@channingeastman2863 Sailing is not (primarily) for transportation... read the blogs before complaining.
@@channingeastman2863 That's because people have already achieved those things... so the addition isn't as "big". Haven't you ever wondered why there's such a massive discrepancy between "mid game" and "late game" when generally speaking they're both almost maxed stats these days? it's because things have to be added, and there's nothing left to add them to except additional gear as the max level has been the same from 12+ years... new skills are added to add barriers and give max players content to play as well even though it's a bit lame
No one would use it to go places anywhere. Secs just wasting time
Sailing to teleporting is like adding horses to gran turismo
this is like having to do the hot air balloon puzzle every time you use it
It's really not like that at all
yeah dude, pathing in the ocean is exactly like a hot air balloon puzzle lmao
shamanism lost, you're owned
To answer your question simply, FUCK no.
I've been against sailing since the start. It has too much baggage in the community, and the game simply wasn't built for it.
I have full faith in the Jmods. They have done fantastic work in the past, but nothing I've seen on sailing thus far has given me any reason to be excited.
I feel the exact same way. It just feels forced. I'm also nervous because the new skills are what turned me off of RS2 back in the day.
Exactly this!
Player owned ports would be the way to go
@@Kamikaze_4 Same. EOC was the final enormous nail in the coffin, but my disdain began with summoning. And we’re not even getting a cool skill. We’re just getting firemaking 2.0
They have already put too much work in it. It will never not happen unfortunately.
Fuck that. They need to rework all the dead content and maps and not ruin osrs a 2nd time. Facts.

Two years on they are just figuring out MOVEMENT in a Sailing Skill! Finding the positives in this is harder than watching Ditter content
i mean, ya'll voted for it
coulda' been crafting robes and quelling the elements or taming animals but BOATSSSS
I really thought the demo of OSRS was older, but either it has some wildly idiotic older folks, or a bunch of kids who know nothing about the industry, so weird. Either way, this is probably months ahead of the vlog post, like ALL stablished videogames are whenever they post something about it, they'r enot just figurign it out, the post is literally an anegdotal piece about HOW they figured it otu IN THE PAST.
"we’ve realised that you’re missing out on some of the most fun parts of the JOURNEY", "With movement FINALLY READY, it WAS time" as in, "here's some of the things we've ALREADY DONE". Like did you really pass 6th grade reading or are you still not there yet? Cus those are the only two options.
@@axion3979 ya’all? Sorry i don’t speak “hick”… one didn’t vote for sailing i‘d have you know
@@axion3979ur right we really missed out on crafting 2.
@@axion3979 Speak for yourself, I voted for Shamanism...
Definitely didn't vote for it. I consider it an outdated meme on top of being a completely pointless, clunky skill at best.
Don't see the point in this as a mode of travel either, when I have easy access to teleports all over the world thanks to construction.
What I was thinking... Only thing that makes sense in my head is it would be beneficial to ironmen?
I would like them to assure us we still get the promised last poll where we can vote no to having it in the game.
2
I know temple trekking isn't people's favorite but it feels like a better way to do sailing than this weird travel method that will be less efficient than just walking.
this idea that it's supposed to be "more efficient" than walking/tping is low IQ speak, you're completely missing the point.
I like how you already know so much about a skill that's one year away, do you have any more insights you could share?
sailing isn't a skill about traveling, it's about sailing, being on the water in a boat. Fighting sea monsters, pirate quests, cannons ect. Nothing to do with a quick cutscene from port sarim to karamja.
Instant turning boats would just make it normal walking...on the water. Might as well not even do it at that rate my dude.
Rs3 segment was too long
We do NOT want this bs 😭
people overwhelmingly wanted this, but the people are retarded
This skill feels like we meme a joke into existence and will regret it
The fact that sailing passed by such a small margin while having the benefit of being a huge meme, and just because that happened we are now locked into getting this skill forever. If you have to reach so hard for a new skill, then maybe you shouldn't make one. At least just take the poll for what it was presented as, an interest check. Instead they went balls deep into making a new skill.
They should've had more options or smithing rework would have been so much better.
Should be a minigame and not a skill. Absolutely horrid.
Based comment
I don't think we can fully judge it until they are done with everything and we see it, it's obvious what they been showing us are likely more rough proofs of concept and works in progress rather than the full product.
💯👍🏻
Same people said that about dungeoneering yet it was one of my favorite skills.
@@squiginjrsure we can. It looks fucking stupid so far regardless of the progress. You can tell a bunch of low total level bums voted sailing just for the meme.
Looked terrible during the pitch, looks terrible now. Idk how this keeps passing polls
Because the other 2 things they proposed are gay as hell. Nobody wants Summoning 2.0 and Dungeoneering was the lamest shit ever put into the game.
@@anabolicino sailing was by far the worst of the 3 options.
@@anabolicino Just because the other 2 skills were trash doesn't automatically mean sailing is good. It's all garbage. We want new content but it doesn't have to be a new skill, there's no reason for that shit.

I wish I like this comment more so very true
2 years and we are just discussing movement. How does leveling up work? What does this skill entail? Kinda hard to be excited without any details
No I don't fuckin want it
Lucky for you it’s not compulsory
@@antoniedixon775 If you want a max cape it will be. Btw 2277 is WAY cleaner than 2376.
@@antoniedixon775 every skill in the game is compulsory to a degree because of requirements. I don't want to do runecrafting but I did get 65 because of quest and diary reqs. If my goal is a quest cape, the skill is likely compulsory to a degree.
Like I said it should of been a mini game and the best fitting skill by far was archeology... would of been a perfect setting
I would have loved archaeology. Just because it’s in rs3 it makes everyone hate it
@@wados3579 i played it in rs3, it added nothing to the game
there is already so much content in osrs and if you could actually max your account / complete all quest, achievement diaries, raids then you really have no fucking life. this takes years to achieve. the fact that so many people play old school RuneScape is because that was the best time to play before they added so much crap.
and im not fully against a new skill but the new skill would really have to be amazing/mind-blowing to make the community really have no negative backlash. but, really sailing? wtf it just doesn't feel like it could be incorporated into osrs easily and make the majority want to get to 99 in that skill.
There should be a tradeoff between boat size and mobility to balance the combat and utility of the boat options.
No, pls no sailing. Like dungeoneering, it would be ok as a mini game, and only as a mini game.
One of the reasons why it’s gotten so far is because we have a lot of rs3 devs that went to old school and ever since then we have been getting nerfs to things thet already work and updates that no one wants
@@WartimeRs I predicted this happening 11 years ago, I told folks osrs would over take rs3, then devs and players from rs3 would come over and turn osrs into rs3.
And just like I predicted in little as two years in 2015 osrs began to over take rs3, and today has 3.5 x the player base.
@@grandcanyon2 lol remember when the magic crafting almost got passed lol
@@WartimeRs my God save RuneScape from these devs
I didn't want any new skills. I've always been highly skeptical about the results of the initial poll asking for a new skill as well. I won't ever be training sailing, even after they begin implementing forced participation by adding quests that will lock me out of the quest cape, bosses, new areas, new items unrelated to sailing but require training sailing to obtain ect. I will learn to play the game without a max cape, until I eventually quit playing because of what I'm losing out on. I had a good 20+ years playing runescape and osrs since it released. Nothing lasts forever though I suppose.
Lol you're going nowhere mate but enjoy the break when it comes
you'll be back after a few months
Very stubborn, i respect it
Since it's official announcement, I have been saying this on every video I happen to click on.
SAILING AS A SKILL IS BAD, make it its own thing outside of the regular skillsystem.
HOW IS NOBODY REALIZING HOW BAD THIS IS?
I'm not against Sailing, I'm against Sailing being a core baked in Skill.
Would be interesting if they added wind speeds, A little wind sock on the top of your boat, Can you sail directly into the wind? No, but with skills you can get pretty close to it (like irl)
For a sail boat to turn like that, You would have to drop an anchor to do so, Obviously this will slow you down and require more of the high level movement skills I believe you are looking for in this. Drop anchor, When it connects, swing it round, raise anchor. Probably shouldn't be possible on the raft.
I do think the clip of the boat moving through the slalom was simply to show how it can be, Even if implemented like that - I doubt anyone will be making such movements as there currently isn't anything like that we would have to navigate, and as you said - People want to get from point A to point B.
I did laugh at one of the comments you got in the video "so the boats just keep moving forward" well yes, That's generally how boats work, Especially wind powered vessels.
Personally for me - If it actually gets to the game, I think it will be a blast - That being said, we shall see if it ever does get into the game. I'm sure if they find too many issues it will be scrapped, and it hasn't been scrapped so far (this time around)
Still pissed we got sailing as the skill idek if I’ll even train this bullshit
scrap it and go back to the drawing board... this aint it.
Sailing segment is too long
ditching the turning radius all together is probably a bad idea, but being able to choose between big chunky boats that take ages to turn and small fast ships with a tight turning radius could be a good idea

Tinfoil hat says jmods wanted it and they cooked the polls because they had already started working on the shit.
The longer the dev time takes the more negative i see the view of it. it's not just a vocal minority either.
F no , new skills belong in rs3 not osrs
I don't know anyone who genuinely thinks sailing is a good idea. The only reason people voted for it is because it's just a huge meme. Never should've been an option to begin with.
the other ideas were stupid
@@clownwrld7 how is shamanism stupid? but sailing isnt? are you sped?
What about the size of the boats affecting the turn speed? We were shown a mid-size boat by the looks of it, if you're doing an activity that requires an agile boat, you go with the raft. If you need more firepower, or whatever a big boat would have more of, then that's what you would go with.
I NEED A HERBLORE MINIGAME
Underrated comment.
sailing seems like such an ass skill and addition to osrs
All they have showed us is proof concepts for the movement basically, it's clearly such a long ways a way from being completed that i think its foolish to cast judgement yet. I think it could end up good but could also end up being terrible.
@@squiginjr its sucks, we have teles to almost everywhere, why sail?
@@Rondigity92 wait for jagex to show us the stuff that's apart of sailing that is supposed to make us want to train the skill, you're reaction is like if they announced slayer and didn't announce any of the rewards for it and you said "oh my god i can just go kill any monster i want why would I train this skill". They have basically shown us nothing but technical demos of how the movement works. These comments are so refreshing coming from the reddit thread. Just incredibly reassuring that there are people that mirror my concerns about this skill.
the turning radius is dynamic and changes based on movement speed. you have a tighter circle with a slower speed that scales down to turning on a dime at 0 speed.
yeah the skill is literal garbo crazy how this even passed at all needs to be repolled asap not only will it be totally worthless but its going to be a very long 99 aswell
Maybe lvl up out of the wide turns? Or remove it for instances where speed matters? Having the big boy boats turn slow seems kinda chill
King, dude, that's where you're wrong though. We dont have to have this in the game if we like it or not. Osrs is our game, this isnt rs3. We vote on freakin changes to pixtels on the construction icon for god sakes.
This skill needs to be repolled. The meme of sailing has gone far enough
Sailing literally feels like its just being added for the memes & alot of players will just give up training it past lvl 40 lmfao, or slogging trough to 99 just to get their max capes back... _ANYTINHG_ else would have been far more interesting in my opinion
I want sailing, but only if it opens to more interesting gameplay.
As far as movement, I feel it should vary by boat size. The smallest boat being like a jet ski. The biggest a big ass boat. And if you’re moving fast on a small boat, make turns quick. If you move slow then wider turns. The code to do that is harder but would make the skill more skillful and rewarding.
what if there was a way to have your large ship but also have a log raft, like in lumby, as a kind of life boat where you could drop that and have movement thats closer to the movement we have as players already. You could have a large ship that has 3 or 4 log rafts that you can drop and have buddies gang up on a larger ship, risking having their own large ship wrecked, but the other person is also risking the gang of damage to their ship if they dont have log rafts and buddies to drop of their own. this would also make pvm content easier because you could choose high damage but slow movement with the large ship, or multi zone it with buddies in log rafts, also risking your ship if the monster is targeting that and you dont pull his aggro fast enough. something like that maybe.
Big turn should exist but there should also be a button for back pedaling. I think that could add more mechanics for future high level sea PVP
Game doesn’t need more skills. Just keep adding good content and fix the already broken shit lol.
@@MermaidCooter bad devs

I’m really concerned sailing is gonna kill the game for a lot of players. It looks so goofy. I know you’re supposed to “trust the process” but I just can’t see this being a serious skill.

Maybe have a boat that has better handling to help movement or an upgrade or perk or equipment of some kind.
We voted for it, it's coming either way
Who is “we”?
I guess Im going to be a lvl 1 sailing pure 🤷♂️
Until they lock you out of content and quests because they want sailing to feel needed.
I dont like sailing so far but i think that a turning circle makes it its own thing and not just walking around but on water
In terms of the turning, maybe they could keep the turn circle but give an option to quick drop an achnor to be able to turn 180° or just make sharper turns faster at the cost of your boat's speed. Sort of like how Sea of Thieves does it.
sailing has the potential to be badass. They aren't doing it right at all. It should be instanced and unlock cool islands. The ships should also be glorious, massive with construction type upgrades. It could even be a small part of your home. imagine adding a dock!?!?!?
none of what you said sounds good either. scrap the skill.
@@HughWanztino I don't really care what you think. Not even a little bit
I don’t think this should be a skill but it should be a thing to do in the game, almost like a mini game but maybe locked behind a quest?
This is exactly what happens when you give people on the Internet the chance to vote lol. This is exactly what people voted for why we back tracking now??
Having done game development, it's a good thing that they're spending a bunch of time making sure the ships feel good to control.
Personally, I think new skills are a fundamentally outdated way of adding content. I don't think it's actually possible to design a skill that would pass the polls needed to make it into the game. The other problem is that after all this hype, sailing is going to have to be the best thing ever. But it's a RuneScape skill, so there's a pretty low ceiling for how good it can actually be.
Im so close to maxing, adding another skill will destroy me
Sailing is a meme from RS1 due to the dumb sleeping mechanic, no running and the existence of decorative ports and has been completely deprecated by teleports.
Would be cool if teleport and fast travel NPCs didn't exist.
sailing is about the journey, not the destination
teles is too good for the game, it would suck to get rid of them, but you can sail there to get some exp
Smaller turning circle. Double the speed. Add half of POH to ocean w/ a dock and let me design my boat. Type shit..
I don't want sailing, no. I wont cry if it gets added, but not looking forward to it.
Fuck no. Makes me wanna cry.

Maybe at a certain level you can hire a navigator that will sail you around the map but you don't get sailing xp when you use it.
Here’s my “constructive” criticism. This skill idea is shit, it’s not a skill. It’s not even a viable minigame. Why the fuck would I take a slow long way to travel. When teleports and fairy rings exist. 0/10.

Make it like a driving simulation where you steer your sailing ship in 1st person maybe. Make the skill checks be something like tacking into the wind correctly and correct sails setup etc. Exp gains similar to rooftop agility where you get it by just sailing and good operation leads to better exp.
If you want PVE or mini games can have sailing races/smuggling goods or something like whales to hunt.

Same with their pvp updates its freakn common sense if you seperate the pvp community pvp will die , it happened back in 2012. They should have left all pvp in the wilderness and have combat mini games liek soul wars, castle wars, and stealign creation.

If the turn mechanic doesn't scale witht he level, it's gonna feel like shit and feel annoying pretty fast, I agree with the video on that.
But it would be nice is if the higher level give you better turn and you'd basically need 80+ for high end content. Like you need 85+ combat stats for end game bosses. You feel like progression of the skill in the way your ship feels when sailing. Also, smaller boats should turn more easily. So at high level you'd turn as fast as the raft, but with a big ass boat.

I think the biggest problem here is, most people in the community wanted sailing in the game, but why make it a skill? You could create so much content just adding sailing capabilities into the game. I think making it a whole skill on its own is not a good idea. Just add it into the game and add content into the water or island instances, or whatever they want. It doesn’t have the mass capability to make it an entire skill without making it feel far too focused on everything other than just sailing. You have to add in so many other avenues. Just my opinion.
Only good thing I see about sailing as a skill is being able to be a pirate. Other than that, I'll only use it if I am forced to for levelling / questing. I am open to trying it before I judge it completely, but looking at this so far, my expectations are low.
