This song stays with me as it does with so many who have seen the scene as it is the definition of "art". Saw the movie when it came out and it was great but the scene with this song is still with me after all these years.
I absolutely agree, there was something about the whole thing that was haunting serious unnerving dangerous and kind of justified about the whole scene

javier vasquez real talk, as a child i watched that movie, and that fucking song always was in the bak of my mind in every traumatic experience in my life.
In movie making, that's called Soundtrack Dissonance. It creates an uncomfortable feeling because what you hear and what you see don't match. Another good example is in "Kiss the Girls". Ashley Judd's character is attacked by Cary Elwes' character while "Goodnight Irene" is playing.
I know ... My parents would not let me play Mortal Combat when I was a kid. Yet they let me watch A Perfect World ... brutal just brutal but awsome movie !

Me too. I took Butch’s word when I was young. I always thought it was an old traditional. The film came up on tv one night and all the memories washed over me. Thanks to internet and Shazam, I am now the wiser and enjoy the song whenever I want. Too bad this version is not available on Spotify. The two versions there are just too.... “clean”.

If you break this piece down to its notes and then play it on a guitar... it sounds like all of those other guitar themes in Clint Eastwood movies. It’s amazing how changing the instruments can completely change the flavor of the piece.
