He had a great face and very expressive eyes. It's a real pleasure watching him speak and I think as a lot of other people think - that his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes is the best there ever was. It's as if he really WAS Sherlock Holmes.
What a charming man, with a winning personality. Every time he was on the screen, it lit up, such was his charisma. And, as as others have noted, what a handsome chap!
He is absolutely brilliant. And he comes off as a warm and down to earth man, but a tormented person because hes willing to risk his own health to put on his best performances . A true professional in my eyes and sorely missed.
I think he’s one of the best Sherlock Holmes I’ve ever seen. He plays his eccentricity to the hilt. The BBC productions were wonderful in the sets and the way the stories were told. The acting was wonderful and both Dr. Watsons, David Burke and Edward Hardwick, were excellent. I am currently again binge-watching the series on BritBox.
Oh this man is fab. Way back in 90/91 when I did the Granada tour with my parents, I walked through that door at Baker Street but little did i realise what significance it would mean to me today. What a lovely man Jeremy was, very sociable with lots of time for his fans even when things were tough for him. His portrayal of Holmes is absolutely unbeatable. So sadly missed x
I wasnt even alive in the 80s when this series kicked off. I found the show because im a pipe smoker myself and naturally a Sherlock fan. I fell in love almost instantly with Jeremy's portrayal. It says something i'd like to think, that the man is still cultivating new fans so many years after his passing. The one and only true Sherlock! Jeremy Brett.
I absolutely love this interview. Aside from the fact that Brett was a handsome, wonderful man, I love to see him display his knowledge of Holmes, because we all know about that huge file he kept on him! :)
I just watched The Second Stain episode, and Jeremy was on top of his game as Sherlock Holmes. The range of emotions just from his facial expressions was just breathtaking. It is one of my favorite and I can watch it over and over. Brett was Sherlock Holmes, there was no one better, and probably never will.
lovely interview, I saw the play at the Wyndham Theatre, sat in the front row of the stalls which was marvellous and a utter thrill to see Holmes so close. It was a very hot summer night, under the stage lights and wearing the heavy period costume Jeremy Brett was visibly perspiring profusely, he managed to pat his face and brow with a handkerchief with a Holmes like flourish that appeared natural as part of the act! I wish i had met him, that voice, such charisma. I never tire of watching the TV shows.
Refreshing interview.....Great to see that great actor talking in real life....our generation could not see him live.......thank you Jeremy for bringing out such an astute and complex character as that of sherlock Holmes.....grateful to you forever....
He will never be forgotten . He left a wonderful legacy of literature come to life. He usually played flawed, dark characters. One of my favorite performances of his was in a BBC film based on Ford Maddox Ford’s novel - The Good Soldier. He was also in a brilliant televised performance by the National Theatre of The Merchant of Venice where he played Bassanio to Laurence Olivier’s Shylock. Beautiful. He is very much loved and missed.
To see him as a young man in the 1965 movie My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison is simply to be spoilt. He's adorable in it and he's a lovely singer.
Wow...what an Interview. I can't believe that when I was a Teen in the 80s I used to turn the channel over when Sherlock Holmes came on, my loss then is my biggest gain now. Watched every single Sherlock with Jeremy in them and have to say this...Jeremy Brett is the best ever Sherlock Holmes. What a loss...Rest In Peace Jeremy...you were loved 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾 Great Actor.
What a wonderful portrayal of a wonderful character.Jeremy was such a charming, engaging fellow and a ridiculously good actor.Watching them all again on itv4👍
It was a real treat to watch this interview. I was lucky enough to see the Sherlock Holmes play at Wyndham’s Theatre and even luckier to meet Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke afterwards outside the stage door. Neither Jeremy nor Edward disappointed. Truly wonderful and the definitive Sherlock Holmes without question. There is no one who has come anywhere near his brilliance.
Thanks for this, so good to see it restored to it's former glory. Jeremy is so gorgeous in this you hang on his every word. I love his laugh too. Hooray for the damaged Penguin.
Thank You Thank You Thank You !!!!!! Wonderful to see this restored and such a treat to watch as well !!! :) But also makes me sad too knowing he is no longer around. But always remembered and never forgotten. WB x
Sweet interview--you can see how he gets out of breath talking. I read in an interview with the producer of the series that he had trouble breathing in the late years. He looks great though.
Thank you so much for posting this again! Yes, the quality is much improved, and Jeremy was so precious here, wasn't he? So grateful to you for making it available to us. :)
Сейчас 2024г я узнал его восем месяц назад я нашла его которого давно ищу и некогда не забуду. Кто видел Шерлок Хомса никогда. не забудет,он бессмертен.Любим и скучаем дорогой мой человек💌😯💖
Great series. Love the bit about his earring and the response from the interviewer "if someone's lost.." British actors/actresses are so good. And the shows are so well done. They want to be successful, of course, but they treat it as a job, a craft (imo) you practice and hone your skills. It must be very hard.
Simple , hamble, sexy, butiful voice, simple clothes, and amazing toke you see him and never avoid being involved to him Extraordinary man Love you and miss you so much Jeremy brett
5:30 -- What Brett is saying is incredibly astute, I think. Sherlock's "genius" may well be understood in the classical sense of the word, as in, a larger than life character bordering on god-like. Quite literally, it answers his own "superman" question....
I would say this interview dates from 1988, as he says a new series of Sherlock Holmes commences in "April", the series did return for a new run in April 1988 with five episodes made. So I would say this was from early 1988.
Who cares about his earring or his sexuality?! He was a superb actor and the likes of him will never come this way again. Such a gentleman! Shame to all of you who speak ill of him!
I wanted to add another comment here: If you look in his face, you will notice that there is no single muscle in face which he could not move. In other words, he was able to move all muscles. That's probably the reason why he could play all types of emotions so well without saying a single word, and you knew exactly what he tried to tell you. It's very rare, I think. There exist a lot of actors/actresses today which have a stiff face and who cannot express an emotion at all. Well, he was in the same situation when he was very young but it changed very fast then. And as Sherlock Holmes he could directly stare into your soul, the audience can practically feel how Holmes examines his clients. I'm glad he had not done the same with the interviewers in this video, they would have been probably naked now. ;-)
Jeremy Brett was the best Sherlock Holmes, no one was better. I think it is interesting that they pointed out here that Sherlock Holmes took cocaine and an opium. But that is an important fact because it may explain his vivid imagination when solving his cases. When seeing it the first time that Sherlock Holmes was injecting something in his left arm, I was wondering what it was and why he would do that. The reaction of Dr. Watson showed that he didn’t like it. That’s why I always had the urgent need to jump in the scene and to help Sherlock Holmes so that he doesn’t need to harm himself. Later, when I was older, I figured out what it was and then it was easy to accept it. It’s part of the story. It made Sherlock Holmes what he was. A brilliant detective, a genius. ❤️
“Found it on Clapham Common” As a gay man who grew up in London in the 80s that has a very obvious hidden implication 😂😂😂 Bet that wasn’t the only ring our Jeremy found on the Common with a handsome face like his
To me he was and always will be the best Sherlock Holmes there ever was. Thank you Jeremy Brett for such great performances. Rest in Peace my friend
He had a great face and very expressive eyes. It's a real pleasure watching him speak and I think as a lot of other people think - that his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes is the best there ever was. It's as if he really WAS Sherlock Holmes.
Yes, it really was like he was Sherlock. He was amazing.
He is Sherlock Holmes!
Well said🙂
Он и есть Sherlok Holmes100%
What a loss. The best and most complete Sherlock Holmes.
Such a gracious soul
What a charming man, with a winning personality. Every time he was on the screen, it lit up, such was his charisma. And, as as others have noted, what a handsome chap!
He is absolutely brilliant. And he comes off as a warm and down to earth man, but a tormented person because hes willing to risk his own health to put on his best performances . A true professional in my eyes and sorely missed.
Yes I am totally agree with you!, Jeremy was beyond words!, A real gem❤️, the definite Sherlock Holmes!
I think he’s one of the best Sherlock Holmes I’ve ever seen. He plays his eccentricity to the hilt. The BBC productions were wonderful in the sets and the way the stories were told.

@@lynnhill4053 It wasn't the BBC, it was Granada tv.
Did he confessed he rid his health for his acting?
So beautiful. I could listen to him and watch him for hours....
Me too... 😍😍😍😍
I love his acting, he has the most beautiful and distinguished eyes, beautiful smile and irresistible laughter. :DD
Thnx for putting this up!

You are spot on.@@lonestarpiper4917
Jeremy Brett was great. So sad that we all lost him so early in his life. . No other words necessary.
I absolutely love this interview. Aside from the fact that Brett was a handsome, wonderful man, I love to see him display his knowledge of Holmes, because we all know about that huge file he kept on him! :)

best sherlock eveeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
well, actually he took a lot of personability from |Peter Cushing's performance as a barely sane Holmes in HOTB 1959
Gorgeous, in every way.❤️
that sponge analogy was amazing. i love the way he described it.
So handsome and well spoken❤❤❤💋💋💋🥰

Jeremy incomparable.Inmortal.

What an absolutely lovely man he was! RIP Jeremy and thanks for the entertainment.
You're most welcome : )
The quality had got pretty bad, and it is such a lovely interview, very much so.
wonderful actor
i never thought of holmes as a dark man. and i have read him since childhood. he has a studied, balanced compassion
Enough sexual charisma .....to die for!
He was awesome!!
I remember seeing this interview when I was child. I was fascinated seeing Sherlock Holmes with an earring.
The best sherlock ever. So sad lovely man.
5:30 -- What Brett is saying is incredibly astute, I think. Sherlock's "genius" may well be understood in the classical sense of the word, as in, a larger than life character bordering on god-like. Quite literally, it answers his own "superman" question....
The depth he brought to Holmes was incredible
I can now see why they casted JB as Sherlock Holmes, the accent. Made for the part
Very cool re-upload. Its interesting to see what used to be "reality tv" after the term has been thoroughly beaten to a technopulp.
I like it how people were decent and respectful on T.v ( with little v intended)
Oh he is so lovely. :D What a great smile. . .so different from Holmes.
Jeremy Brett is the mind to bring 2023 into play. He's a weaver of Sherlock Holmes.
I would say this interview dates from 1988, as he says a new series of Sherlock Holmes commences in "April", the series did return for a new run in April 1988 with five episodes made. So I would say this was from early 1988.
Thank you so much, i was just looking for some sort of date
Jeremy was a genius actor.
❤J.B❤
Who cares about his earring or his sexuality?! He was a superb actor and the likes of him will never come this way again. Such a gentleman! Shame to all of you who speak ill of him!
I like his earing, like a dashing pirate.
Exactly.
Just watched the Wogan interview and then this… wow! Makes me happy again that I wear an earring! What a pro’ JB is.
Such amazing actour that part fit him like glove he just brought him to life no can play like him what star he is the broke the mound when he was made
Hard to watch him struggle to breathe.
What a gent! :)

“Found it on Clapham Common” As a gay man who grew up in London in the 80s that has a very obvious hidden implication 😂😂😂 Bet that wasn’t the only ring our Jeremy found on the Common with a handsome face like his

Wow a television interview where the interviewer dosent talk all over the interviewee. This was a long time ago.
