Why does this sound so good, the other UA-cam versions of this track are magic, but this just sounds so much better and haunting. But then this is a Peel Session!!!!!! 😱😱😱👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Oh my gosh! The Peele sessions are a wonderous thing! All the bands I love from the mid-70s on, that I was never going to see live, way off in Canada while it was all going on, have done Peele sessions that I can watch/hear. I dont know if I can convey here how much these vids mean to me! Im almost 60 & these songs are etched in my being......all these years later, I still feel what I felt listening for the first time, but now I know all the words, & I, believe it or not, still wish I could have been in GB, seeing it all for myself. Instead, I have exposed my kids & nephews/nieces to it all & changed the way they listen to modern music. After all....I remember where it all began, & there are very few modern groups that are anywhere near as good & innovative.
Back in the day, this got requested by friends and played for me over the PA at Fresher's Fair in the Student's Union at the University of Liverpool. I was manning the stall for the German Department, of course!
Watching totp2 last year, these appear and blew me away with this song. Too young to appreciate the song when it first came out. It’s the chords and wailing guitar that does it for me.
Finbarr Dolan: great comment. I call it the washing wall of guitar sound, a sound that was an essential part of New Wave Brit music & that got lost for a few decades. Ive noticed, it is coming back in the Canadian & other music scenes & I coulnt be happier.
Yep, just as I thought! I've found the cassette tape of the very same Peel session I recorded all those years ago! Try the album with this on. You're in for a treat.
One of the most perfect, quintessential songs of the 80's.
indeed it is
Pure gold. Haunting guitar and vocals
A rare masterpiece
Had the great, good fortune to see them in London 5/6 times...absolutely stunning live !
One of the best tracks I’ve ever heard..
I listen to this most days
Great song !We miss songs like this !
We do indeed Peter…
Brilliant, top track, really miss the 80's,
The 80's best decade of my life
Thank FK for John Peel sessions RIP
Perfect version of an unforgettable theme, what a wonderful early 80's🎸♥️
Suburbia club spring 1981. Late sat. Night. I danced this song possessed, it was pure psyco drama. I gave all out of myself. All ! Amazing.
..
Timeless classic after all these years

It's a recording from a Peel session. Wish I could get my hands on the original audio. The quality sucks
I'm listening to this again on 5 November 2021. John Peel, what can you say except thank you.
Im in love with this song.❤

The base guitar is incredible ,haunting and mesmerising
The bass guitar isn't bad, either.

Guitar using a effect called Echoplex, believe originally recorded onto looped tape, now electronic. Have a Google.
@@robinavalyn9513 “Washing wall of guitar sound” - I like that, it sums up the sound pretty accurately.
today too, two times
AWESOME
With Colin Newman's vocals this could almost fit onto Wire's 'Chairs Missing'.
and today AGAIN

This version has sort of a Xymox feel to it, parts just sort of drift away like: 1:55
One of my favourite things about this version.
Yeah. I'm eith you there. Love it. Such a lovely vibe, and vocally, just dont get it anymore. It's all sound that sounds the same. GOD I'm old . HaHa.
Check out Cocteau Twins, SerpentSkirt it's eerily similar
slightly similar, slightly.
Shining gem
R I P ...
a tune of mammoth proportions
and today
I can hear Bela Lugosi's dead in there...
like today for example
you've guessed it
