For intermediate rails, I like to copy/move the first vertical rail up to the top, as you did, and then use the slash (e.g. /4) to equally distribute the copied rails along the span. Also, I personally prefer to use a diameter that's a bit thinner than the main rail to avoid any ugly intersection. One last thing: for making the emptied out space under the stairs, I much prefer to follow the rise and run of the stairs, rather than just eyeballing that angle. I'll usually draw a line down a foot or so from the back of a step, then do the same for the next step, then connect the two with a line and extend it out to run below the other steps.
find it much easier to draw a vertical line the total height of the stairs you need, divide it into the number of steps you want and than push pull every thread you layed out on the ground to the reference points you made with the vertical line. That way you eliminate all error.
Make rectangle first step>copy this rectangle as next step >to this second rectangle give a height say 1 inch> multiple copy the next step to the desired number of steps required > select all steps now scale in z axis to the landing g level. Fastest method. I do this in blender. Same workfliw Can be used in sketchup as well.
Stairs are tough, especially when you further complicate the issue by adding in landings. My response to this is to use the Medeek stair module and for multiple landings it does offer some utility. Take a look at this short explanation: ua-cam.com/video/I4uSjlKXheU/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
how can we choose correct of 3 axis as destination when we need to move object ? I need to move cube, select base corner. How can I select destination easily... Many times i should find green or blue or red axis...
i have problem with sketchup/layout. my building is in angle to axes. and when i want to make a drawing in Layout with the floor (view from top) i cant set the view so the floor is perpendicular to sheet because standard views are rotating everything to axes. please help
Solid old school techniques. Is there a plugin or preferrably a DC that will calculate the proper rise and run for you (hopefully using the ADA standards for legal compliance or something similar ).Every plugin or DC I've seen only does the math manually or never lines up the overall height without making you fuss with the details to make it work.
i am using sketchup 2018, for my 8gb ram and 450 ssd core i5 4rth gen laptop, having intel 4600 graphic card let me know how is this if i do exterior and interior detailed modelling and rendering with vray 4.0 ? will it work or not ?
Hey Justin! A bit confused by the video. The making the stairs part doesn't take into account a real world scenario of having to figure out first the correct riser height divided into the total stair height, you just have it setup to show it without having to figure it out in your video with your 6" riser heights, but every user of sketchup making stairs to be accurate would have to first figure this out (the riser height and calculations)... With a plugin you can click 3 times from the moment the user is ready and the stairs are made to the correct riser height and are to code with parameters specified and the stairs are done..... I feel like that's much faster than the tutorial you have here, maybe I am missing something though.....
Thanks Justin. Much better than the method I used. I have a question, but it isn't about stairs, it's about animation. How would you animate the motion of a coffee table top that uses "lift hinges". As the table top opens, it moves in 2 axes simultaneously and it's giving me brain fry. Hope there's a reasonably simple solution. Thanks again and keep the great videos coming!

Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions about modeling stairs in SketchUp in the comments below! :)
Doing a project that requires these skills and you happen to recently post this! Thank you so much ☺️
Thanks for this short clip on stairs. Very helpful.

this was so straight to the point ! thank you !
thankyou for making my life easier🙌🙏

Thanks , Very inportant all video , I am from watching Nepal
Bro, your video really helpful and easy to understand......good job
Great vid thanks have you done one similar for sketchup for ipad?
Great video, thank you!

LOL - it does STAIRS TOO?!?! Awesome stuff
This is exactly how I've been making stairs every step for years lol
thank you 🙏💗
Easy 😮 love it ❤
Thank you justin you are our mentor
Keep making these awesome vids
You got it!

Very helpful , thank you ,
Very good. Thanks
Great video buddy
How do you do a rail for a spiral staircase, WITHOUT extensions. Thanks!

how did you multiply the steps to 17? I cant do it in my sketchup what did u enter to make it possible.

There is a live component that allows you draw code compliant stairs. You can find it in the Warehouse search, for live components/stair.
how did you do that? You know the number of risers in a particular stairs?

It will work if your cpu support SSE3 or higher

Use scenes.. and copy and paste the pieces that are moving and hide the unused pieces in each scene and animate that
@@t3true-games I'll give that a try. Thanks
Infact , when we make a stairs we need draw concrete, plaster, tile, wood, rebar . Not only cover face
What the hell kind of stairs are you making that you need all those materials!?!

Amazing
Gonna make my work easier.
a complex hip roof that sketchup will automatically make
..”following these steps.” I see what you did there. 😆
Do a roof one
👍👍👍
Only in designs not in real life lmao😂
There are much more faster ways.
can someone edit the videos with the stupid introduction ? annoying
Lol - if you're gonna complain about my intro on every video I've ever done, it's gonna take you a while
If you don't like the videos you don't have to watch them. Come on don't be silly this is the Justin's trademark, and I will say it is pretty awesome.
That aint ghe fastest
This slow as hell
