Justin Cassidy here. SKP PM of Graphics. This is a great video. Thank you for making it. And yes we do read comments. So Justin Crew comment away please. We love it.

Justin, I would love to see Sketchup bring you, Brightman, and Donnelley into their office once a year with the key decision makers to weigh in on their decisions both to influence what they improve but also to help them explain their direction via your videos. And while I am not clear on what it takes to write the software around these features the three of you could also meet with their software engineers writing the code to get into the details of how the tools being added work. I would also like to see a list of extensions from you updated every year that in your opinion are “must have” for architects - I’ve downloaded a few but have to admit I need to spend more time learning to use and integrate them into my workflow. Lastly, I applaud your ability to jump around so many different platforms and understand their tools and capabilities so deeply. You add so much to our community and I really like your style.
YES on dark mode! Swing indicator visibility on cabinets. I manage my swing indicators in another way - all within Sketchup. Create the swing indicators and tag them as "SwingIndicators" Create the elevations for each wall - Wall A, Wall B, Wall C, etc. Attach the swing indicators to the elevation and size as needed. Group them based on the cabinet they're attached to. Tag the group(s) of swing indicators and all applicable components as Wall A, Wall B... as appropriate. When you toggle the Wall A tag - everything on Wall A responds. When you toggle the SwingIndicators tag, only the swing indicators on the active tab respond. 1. Create swing indicators, format to show dotted lines. 2. Highlight and tag as "SwingIndicator" (or whatever you want to call it). 3. Group the swing indicators to the particular cabinet where it goes. 4. Repeat until the current view is setup appropriately. 5. Tag everything you want in the view, For instance, Wall A. 6. When transferred to layout, that view is retained without the need for layering. You can attach the swing indicator to a dynamic door and program it to resize to the door so you're not repeating the process every time you want swing indicators. Or you can try CabinetSense software, a paid plugin that manages all of that for you.
Based on what you’re describing, this sounds like the right way to do this. I doubt there would be a tool to manage just this specific function unless it was within a wider cabinet “toolset”
Being able to add multiple tags to object, groups and component instances!! The single level of tagging is a pain, Especially as you model more complex building and interiors, with multiple floors etc.. And include the parent tag folder as part of the name of the tag.. so you don't have to do "Floor 1" as a folder and then "Floor 1 - Cabinets" as the tag, if you also want cabinets on Floor 2 (i.e. "Floor 2" > "Floor 2 - Cabinets").. I would like to do "Floor 1" > "Cabinets" and "Floor 2" > "Cabinets".. and the actual tag on the groups or components would automatically take the parent folder name to make it unique.. i.e. an object in "Floor 1" > "Cabinets" would be "Floor 1 > Cabinets"
Ooh good one, and the levels example is a great example of why this would be nice. It is a little odd that they changed the name to “Tags” from “layers” but you can’t add multiple tags to an object 🤷♂️
Yes. Multiple tags to objects would be good. But its just a scratch in the surface. What would be reeealy nice is the justin sujestion of adding data to objects/elements... Aaaand! finally create "Visibility Criteria" for each view based on those data. And I mean complex criteria expressions with AND/OR "(" ")"... Things like these.
@@LostMarkTwain I think just somehow having the ability to add data and sort/filter/work with that data, but not in a way that makes it super...Revit...y :)
I agree with everything. Number 9 is a must-have, plus the Move tool now includes an option to press Alt to change snapping points on an object. I wish there were an option to hold Alt to completely disable geometry snapping (allowing only object snapping), as well as shortcuts like Ctrl + Alt for additional functions.I also wish for a Dynamic Components 2.0, as the current system takes far too long to create and manage. Components need significant improvements, such as the ability to copy objects and instantly make them unique, similar to how it worked 20 years ago in 3ds Max. I also wish they would remove the ability to apply textures separately to objects and faces. Lastly, developers should have the option to use trays for their extensions instead of floating windows scattered all over the place. Maybe it would be a good idea for SketchUp developers to start using Blender and other similar software to understand how to improve their own tools. Thanks Justin
Good job Justin! I am daily user of Sketchup from early age of software (2008) and I can only agree with you. From my perspective (architect) it would be a nice to make Layout a real documentation tool to be competitive with other software in industry. Overall user experience in Layout is problematic. Dimensioning needs a huge improvement. And where is a proper sectioning in Sketchup? -A visual representation of sections needs to define materials and constructions above a cut plane (usually drawn as some kind of dashed line, based on national laws, norms and regulations) which is not possible without a massive time consuming and tons of hours to draw it manually later on in Layout, which is quite of opposite of how means to be Layout used. And what about a Layout UI? The side toolbar on your right hand takes nearly to 1/3 of your work screen so does they mean it seriously? There is many examples how to do it better... 1. Layout needs massive upgrade (associative dimensioning, UI, stability to mention few, to become something like lets say CadTools plugin for Adobe Illustrator) 2. Real native section tools to replace/substitute of Skalp plugin (which is difficult to work with and it often dont produce dependable results) 3. As you mention, Sketchup needs to be stripped of necessity to install tons of plugins, which significantly rise up costs of subscription and it is pain to reinstall those plugins after each upgrade of Sketchup!
Many great ideas here! For Me: a-Hole-cutting through multiple faces and components without extensions. B- Multiple tags om components and groups. C-change the «description» og Components so that this is readable In IFC, Trimble Connect and so on. d: Naming of nested components and groups. E: add outliner to Layout.

Hatch or texture fills is must. Being able to vectorize them in Layout would be ideal. Raster based hatching is a substandard for proper documentation.
Justin, I am 100% onboard with you on these options. I've watched Blender become better because of incorporating some of these and also I have to keep reminding myself that SketchUp sometimes needs time to catch up. It's OK , and It is still the lowest learning curve of 3D software's to teach and use. Thank you again for all you do for us!
Thanks Larry - agreed - Blender has made significant strides over the past 3-4 years - would love to see SketchUp do the same! (Still love the software, but nothing wrong with wanting it to be even better 😎)
New User Perspective: 1) Yeah trying to put windows in the model you just lovingly constructed kinda sucks. Need a way to cut through layers of siding + wall + whatever. Am currently working to make every layer into a solid ( would like to have discrete function for THAT) and then punch holes with the solid subtract function. 2) Core direction: They're probably trying to figure out how to purchase the IP from extension developers without dampening that robust community. You're right, they probably need to do that. Maybe a three-year plan or something. When it comes to using WordPress for websites I really balk at getting too invested because I don't want to rely on a zillion extensions. Same thing here. 3) It's probably out there but I haven't yet found a way to save groups to an external*.skp file so I can import them into other models. Would sure like to find that. 4) I hear you on the performance thing. So far I've been pretty fastidious about minimizing surfaces and lines but can see where it could become a problem someday. Not using too many curves seems to be the key. Wondering how easy it is to expand to multi core processing. 5) Would like a sub-option within grouping where it would automatically omit guidelines from the group. I think this might help keep my groups from growing across model space unexpectedly. 6) Navigation tweak: Sometimes you need to zoom forward in open space. If your mouse pointer isn't positioned over an object you can suddenly rocket out to Pluto. Having some logic built into the program to mitigate that rapid acceleration would be nice. 7) Haven't yet found a way to click on a group and see how much data it occupies in the model. Would like that guidance as I'm building.
what we want in new sketchup is a new whole UI. I want them to implement thomthoms vertex tools and subD and all artisan,FREDO 6 including the Bevel and booleam tools by default and that will make and take skethcup to a new level. we need the team to bring LAYERS name back. we need sketchup to be more beefy. perhaps hold more geometry by default, Dark UI , theres is more. but for the moment I think this is a first start to make sketchup a good competitor! cheers
Lol - I'm not sure changing the Layers name back really...does anything, but then neither did changing it to tags in the first place. They made SketchUp more beefy in 2024 though - total rewrite of the 3D engine...
External references that exist in all programs are also essential. Sketchup seems to be a program that hasn't developed in years. I want them to listen more faithfully to the users.
Are there other programs that can reference in ALL programs? I know Autodesk programs usually reference some other Autodesk files, but this feels like a recipe to really quickly slow down performance Edit: I’m good with the idea for a specific workflow, but what are we referencing? SketchUp files into other SketchUp files?
Yes, 100% with you on a few as I use Sketchup every day professionally: Scene grouping, More modeling tools added to vanilla Sketchup, and an expanded texturing toolset. I would like to add a Draw Distance option for large models that could greatly improve performance during the later phases of design development and into contract docs. Sketchuo is so amazing because it scales with the user’s ability - starts out nice and friendly but really has some great flexibility and function (assuming you bought a whole stack of fancy plugins) to get in the weeds 10, 15, 20 years on in your growth as a model maker.
UV mapping, standard beveling tools, and light rendering tools like Keynote showcase it. My problem is that all extensions are nowadays paid ones with tendencies to be SAS and not perpetual licenses so when you add all those sometimes I have trouble explaining to people why to use Sketchup and not Rhino or something else. It needs more functionalities, such as native tools and not rely on plugins because those add cost to using Sketchup. Those costs get passed to clients, especially since plugin cost each year gets a price bump.
I've not really witnessed a ton of price bumps, but it is fair to say all those costs add up. At some point, I do think SketchUp just needs to bite the bullet and start adding additional tools
Interesting - I see this one requested a bunch, but I usually don’t work that way (except in Blender when using geometry nodes). Not against it, but I think it’s a long shot with the way SketchUp seems to be prioritize features
Bravo, Justin! I agree with you almost 100% on most of this! Like you, I have been using SU for years and always come back to the program because of its simplicity. I use SU 2020 because I don't have this as a job, just for fun and small projects for myself and others. That's why I can't justify a subscription yet. Still, I've spent a lot of money on plugins and a better tool organizer had been welcome. The sheer number of plugins can otherwise be overwhelming.
My biggest wishlist items are for the layout api for easier batch entity naming / IFC of objects (maybe via improved reports and spreadsheet import export for batch rename?) and faster dimensioning and import of line work/editable auto section fills. I would really like Darkmode to help with eye strain. Thom thom’s plugins seem to already have it. Everything on the top 10 list seems valid the tools 75-90% of users depend on would be better if they were just baked in. I already have mind sight studios, fredo6, and eneroth to fill the gaps.
STL support and 3D printing tools. All the competing modelers have mature tools helpful in 3D printing, such as proper closure, editing, and booleans for volumes, offsetting forms (especially varying by axis), volume analysis, etc. Basically your "More Modeling Tools" but with a purpose. None of the 3D printing channels propose SketchUp as a viable modeling tool because of these limitations.
I think the issue you run into with this is that it forces you to build more "systems" into the modeling portion of SketchUp. Not saying it can't be done, but it does remove some of the more...flexible nature of SketchUp (also makes things like Fusion run really slow on even moderate sized models)
Totally agree with your every point. It's like you have given words to my thought. Why should we the user have find every solution and installing every third party apps for something very basic which are incorporated in almost every 3d modelling tools.its a great software but sometimes it is so irritating to see the company take the users for granted. I wish they see your video and works on that.
I don't think I agree that they're taking the users for granted - having met a lot of the SketchUp team personally at Basecamp, I felt there was a lot of passion and interest in making SketchUp better. Realistically I think it's more just a difference in opinion of what that means and a difference of direction
A hierachy based visibility/unvisibility option would be great with an increasing/decreasing cursor for adjusting the shown levels, instead of the simple "show/hide the rest of the model"...
Extensions to trays is an interesting idea to me. Personally I work with multiple monitors so I really don't have this issue, but it's an interesting idea
Impossible i guess but exporting to .step (as far as i know no extensions or workarounds); more export-options in general. Dark mode for sure. Easier hole cutting instead of using the push pull or move tool (a "through-all" or "to face"-function would be nice).
x-refs for sure. Well you can do that already, updating external SU models as components. But external files are mostly ifc´s and dwg´s. You need to update them, and keep their import settings saved to the linked file, in a proper links palette. It needs to work on local files, not just for Trimble Connect files. And ifc imports need to have tag control, so that you can import just parts of a file, and have the link palette remember those settings when updating an xref. Controlling color schemes for ifc links is also important, because what you get from other consultants is almost always ugly coloured things that dont fit into an architectural model. just purging colors upon import will help a lot. The x-ref, after updating, would then just keep the color you assigned to the whole group.
So…what kind of external files? Civil CAD files? I’m not opposed to some sort of XRef system, but I think I’d want more specifics on this actual workflow and what the goal would be
@@Thesketchupessentials I think one cannot start supporting all kinds of files. I was against the whole revit plugin to begin with.. :-) Better to get really good at the main common exchange formats, like dwg and ifc. If ifc import improves in terms of speed, resulting filesize, and organisation (now the import purges tags altogether), there's still a lot of work to get a proper workflow for people that uses ifc´s in a collaboration. One gets revisions every second day, and most of the time is then not spend on modeling, but on replacing ifc´s......, deleting the same colors and unwanted tags manually every single time. It's like not being in the computer age at all. (and of course, now, to even have the chance to manually delete the unwanted tags from that ifc, one needs to make a .trb file in Trimble Connect and import that instead in order to get tags at all )
So basically, if one works with sketchup for a living, one needs workflow workflow workflow, and not more fancy modeling tools. And the AI stuff, I will not spend a minute of my time on those silly toys.
@@Oddpaatuben Honestly I've not really used IFC files for anything (sorry, I'm a GC in my day job, not a designer) - what program is generating the IFC files? Are they Revit exports?
the colors palette: How do you manage the hundreds of colors that comes into your model? You want to select one color, or select a few similar color swatches, and assign one new or existing color to replace them, so as to purge lots of unwanted colors from your model. Much the same way that you can now place all geometry onto another target tag while deleting that unwanted tag.
@@Thesketchupessentials I´m thinking more of the color palette itself, to get that organised. Like when you delete a color the only option is for those objects to get unassigned color. This is not how it works for tags, when you delete a tag you can have the objects on the tag move to another tag if your choosing.
I agree with everything. Number 9 is a must-have, plus the Move tool now includes an option to press Alt to change snapping points on an object. I wish there were an option to hold Alt to completely disable geometry snapping (allowing only object snapping), as well as shortcuts like Ctrl + Alt for additional functions. Theoretically the ability to add custom snap points is already there with snaps. I don't think I'd need / want a built-in modifier for toggling snapping off - I prefer the way Rhino and Blender do it (don't want a snap type? uncheck the option). Still, interesting ideas. I do agree that I wish more SketchUp devs spent time working in Rhino and Blender at least for information on the way other tools do things
@@Thesketchupessentials Not sure we are on the same page. I agree with the idea of extra buttons to toggle different snapping settings. I was trying to say that if I want to move a component by holding it exactly on the component center point, but there is geometry a few 'pixels' to the left, even when I press Alt to select to find the middle point, it still snaps to nearby geometry instead of the center of the component. By holding Alt, this could switch off geometry snapping, making it easier to select component center or corners.
Well we’re not in the sense that we disagree on implementation - I’m good with the concept, but in the sense that I’d like it done the way you can in Blender - you just press shift tab and it turns snapping off completely. I’d rather that than a modifier built into a specific tool just because I get a lot of students that press buttons and don’t realize they’re doing it, so I feel the other implementation is cleaner
The ability to create faces from edges (flat imports from dwg). I just spent an entire day on a landscaping plan creating hundreds of triangulations, even extensions such and make faces or Eneroth surface maker aren't doing the job. It has been such a nightmare for more than a decade.
Stupid question - you're 100% sure that your edges were all flat? I've dealt with this (we all have), but to THIS level? I have to ask if you're certain they're all on the same level
@Thesketchupessentials they absolutely were. You know for sure when you finish triangulating an area and then you can erase all the triangulations without having the surface disappear. What made it particularly difficult is that some curves were on top of each other at the same place in the original file (supposed to be perfectly superimposed), which resulted in minuscule differences in SKP, since they're converted into segments. Regardless of more complex situations, to me it should be a no-brainer to include this tool in the basic toolset of Sketchup.
Yeah - I don’t think this is going anywhere - it’s kind of by design to make sure you’re not bringing in a bunch of non-updated plugins that crash whenever SketchUp opens. Blender is the same way (last I checked)
first we want a dark mood display. second we want more modeling tools like other 3d softwares instead of plugins, third we want in general sketchup to be a full 3d and 2d software like Revit to can produce full engineering and architectural projects including 3d and 2d construction drawings and BIM
Being able to lock geometry inside a dynamic component. Trying to model drawer boxes with dados and rabbits that are locked - no work around that I’ve found.
Practically the way these currently are built, this wouldn’t work as everything is kind of live calculating based on the bounds of the object. I’m not 100% sure how this would work practically - are there other programs that do this that you’re aware of?
One thing that is unbelievable SU doesn't have is to be able to select line ends using click and drag, sometimes I just want to extend multiple lines using the move tool and I simply can't, or have to use scale, but it doesn't work since I can't set defined mesure. PLEASE SketchUp people! Also WHY we can't have drawings with holes in Layout??? Everytime I have to model the shape in SU THAN explode using vector to have a geometry with a hole in it, it's so frustrating, and then I can't even edit the geometry because it becomes locked or smtn, PLEASE I BEG YOU!
For the price you pay for Sketchup, I would've thought it'd have rendering built in. I tried using Blender early on but Sketchup models never imported well no matter the format I used. I do wish Blender could import native Sketchup files or Sketchup could export into native Blender files. Right now I use TwinMotion for rendering.
I really do think there is a place for AI, and I think they nailed it with the Auto PBR Map Generation and Auto Make Seamless functions. Some of the others though, like "generate a 2D floor plan for me" I think doesn't align with the actual design process. I DO think that SketchUp does need to stay up on that particular wave (because AI is here whether we like it or not), but I'd like to see some of these other things along for the ride
All i want from Skp is to be able to handle extreme high poly models without any lag, bugsplat, crash and so on, like any other 3d app (Max, Maya, Rhino,Blender...etc). That's it...Is that too much to ask? I'm askin this since the version 8.🙄
@Thesketchupessentials Yeah i know, Skp is getting better with every new release, but in the end, still needs to use plugins (transmutter) to reduce faces in order to handle heavy models...🤷🏻♂️.
Modifiers would be sweet (I assume this is similar to Blender modifiers as well). I'm not sure I'd want the timeline - that slows down Fusion pretty fast on bigger models
I've used it and don't have problems with it - I just find the functionality much less intuitive with the way individual pieces are handled vs overall objects, etc
The way they design this program makes me think of "simulator" games. I has the ability to do mundane things, but yet it's a shell of what is actually possible and a lot of it is attained through 'cheating'. And bad graphics, but that's not important here.
Interesting - graphics would be one of the things I don't really think is an issue here. It creates 3D images, plans in Layout can look pretty good, and it integrates with more 3rd party rendering programs than most 3D softwares I've used. I suppose it doesn't have built in rendering, but they announced that at Basecamp, so that's coming soon. What specifically don't you like about the graphics?
@@Thesketchupessentials Not ragging on the graphics, I appreciate how basic it is. I use SketchUp strictly for 3D printing intricate little parts and it does a wonderful job. I'm speaking more about the buggy aspect of things that you just learn to live with and work around. Round edges without plugins already! I'm talking about under the hood, with how advanced other programs have become, you would think there would be a lot more added over how long it has been available is all I'm saying. The graphics, I'm fine with. But it does look very dated- especially from someone who has never seen it before. When you think about it, it has an 'XP' kind of look to it. I've never used LayOut, myself so I have no idea what that is like. The work you do with it is far beyond what I would ever need to do and thank you for all of the answers over the years. No matter what it is, you have already covered it. And that is just amazing.
UI scaling like Blender and bring back 2022 icons. On 2024 the icons are too small and the large icons are too big. Dark mode would be great. Needs work for vision accessibility.

Lol - I've been getting comments like this since I started my Blender channel in 2020. Blender still doesn't care about architectural modeling, and that's still ok. :)

+1 For Dark Mode. I've been hoping for years for this to be implemented! Great list of other improvements as well.
Would really like dark mode. Honestly just an adjustable viewport experience in general 👍

@@Thesketchupessentials Sure. This alone would be huge!... And finally Sketchup would get some "respect" from BIM managers. ;)
@LostMarkTwain Lol - unlikely 🤣
100% Agree!!! Great feedback, only hope they act upon the much needed improvement requests!!!
Well the first step is having the discussion in a public place I think
Good list, number one Layout yes, yes, yes and for developers to add extensions to Layout
Hi everyone! Let me know your most requested features for SketchUp and Layout in the comments below! :)
1. Layout needs massive upgrade (associative dimensioning, UI, stability to mention few, to become something like lets say CadTools plugin for Adobe Illustrator)
2. Real native section tools to replace/substitute of Skalp plugin (which is difficult to work with and it often dont produce dependable results)
3. As you mention, Sketchup needs to be stripped of necessity to install tons of plugins, which significantly rise up costs of subscription and it is pain to reinstall those plugins after each upgrade of Sketchup!
I’d especially agree with the section fills - it would be good to be able to indicate materials in the sections in a better way
Section Fill Textures would be helpful
Agreed - almost made the main list, but I've heard more dark mode complaints and snapping complaints recently 😂
Yeah! Some way to import AutoCAD .PAT (Hatch) files.
Justin: I agree with everything mentioned.
Great job explaining/demonstrating why your suggestions need to be implemented.
I like A for sure 😃
Preach brother! Thank you. I feel the improvements to layout could be an additional video.

I thought I had posted this reply last night, but I guess I didn't. Thanks again. -b
New User Perspective:
1) Yeah trying to put windows in the model you just lovingly constructed kinda sucks.
Yes, agree - bring back Layers!
External references that exist in all programs are also essential. Sketchup seems to be a program that hasn't developed in years. I want them to listen more faithfully to the users.
+1 for Xrefs
Are there other programs that can reference in ALL programs? I know Autodesk programs usually reference some other Autodesk files, but this feels like a recipe to really quickly slow down performance
Edit: I’m good with the idea for a specific workflow, but what are we referencing? SketchUp files into other SketchUp files?
Rhino can use external difference of other software @@Thesketchupessentials
Yes, 100% with you on a few as I use Sketchup every day professionally: Scene grouping, More modeling tools added to vanilla Sketchup, and an expanded texturing toolset. I would like to add a Draw Distance option for large models that could greatly improve performance during the later phases of design development and into contract docs. Sketchuo is so amazing because it scales with the user’s ability - starts out nice and friendly but really has some great flexibility and function (assuming you bought a whole stack of fancy plugins) to get in the weeds 10, 15, 20 years on in your growth as a model maker.
Can you give me more of an idea of what the draw distance function would be? Would it be like LOD's in Unreal Engine or something?
@ Ya just like LOD in Unreal or viewport clipping in Blender. Not sure if the viewport clipping actually improved performance in Blender 😅
@@trvsdvdsn Gotcha - no clue on Blender - I've only tested that with things like GeoScatter, which did seem to improve performance
Being able to have multi-view/window with different views or perspectives of the project in the viewport at the same time.
Thanks very much! :)
Wouldn’t you want to import the IFC stuff into SketchUp itself?
Wow. Great video Justin. I think Trimble should put you in charge of the improvement department...lol. Layout performance is my #1 as well.
lol - I obviously have opinions, but a lot of this is just echoing what I’ve heard from the community
10/10. Agree with all!
Lol - thanks!
Sheet metal tools for creating flat patterns for brake press forming would be a great addition.
Kind of like Fusion 360 has?
Totally agree with your every point. It's like you have given words to my thought. Why should we the user have find every solution and installing every third party apps for something very basic which are incorporated in almost every 3d modelling tools.its a great software but sometimes it is so irritating to see the company take the users for granted. I wish they see your video and works on that.
I don't think I agree that they're taking the users for granted - having met a lot of the SketchUp team personally at Basecamp, I felt there was a lot of passion and interest in making SketchUp better. Realistically I think it's more just a difference in opinion of what that means and a difference of direction
Multithreading for dynamic components !!!
That's very specific...
A hierachy based visibility/unvisibility option would be great with an increasing/decreasing cursor for adjusting the shown levels, instead of the simple "show/hide the rest of the model"...
good points, i use a lot of extesions and my modeling window is small, good wiil be placing them into trays
Extensions to trays is an interesting idea to me. Personally I work with multiple monitors so I really don't have this issue, but it's an interesting idea
I would really like to see equity between the Mac and PC functions of the material editing tools.
+100 points for more native editing tools. Despite many extensions, like Fredo's, are great, it is endless hassle seeking and training good tools.
I would REALLY love to see some modeling tools start to get added
Curic stretch should also be native. This is the best tool. As every object in sketchup have points.
Impossible i guess but exporting to .step (as far as i know no extensions or workarounds); more export-options in general. Dark mode for sure. Easier hole cutting instead of using the push pull or move tool (a "through-all" or "to face"-function would be nice).
For hole cutting I would REALLY love to see a live boolean system where booleans work live in the 3D workspace (like Blender)
@@Thesketchupessentials absolutely 10000 percent agree. :)
x-refs for sure.
+1 for Xrefs
I don’t understand this one - do you mean a material replacement tool like ThomThom’s Material Replacer?

@@NizarBredan Had to ask - I wish I had some idea of why this was the case. It SEEMS like this shouldn't be a problem
Absolutely!
😎
Good suggestions. It is hassle to reinstall all of the 3rd party plugins every time we get newer version of the application.
Yeah - I don’t think this is going anywhere - it’s kind of by design to make sure you’re not bringing in a bunch of non-updated plugins that crash whenever SketchUp opens. Blender is the same way (last I checked)
That's why I have sometime skipped a complete year version. Too much work to make everything work again after update
Circles by diameter. Really simple. Or at least arithmetic that always works in the entry window.
Arithmetic would be nice sometimes for sure
first we want a dark mood display. second we want more modeling tools like other 3d softwares instead of plugins, third we want in general sketchup to be a full 3d and 2d software like Revit to can produce full engineering and architectural projects including 3d and 2d construction drawings and BIM
You had me until “making SketchUp like Revit”…
Lock layer and freeze layer should be in.
You can lock and unlock objects, so you could do this using the outliner depending on how things are grouped. How well does that work?
For the price you pay for Sketchup, I would've thought it'd have rendering built in. I tried using Blender early on but Sketchup models never imported well no matter the format I used.
I do wish Blender could import native Sketchup files or Sketchup could export into native Blender files.
Right now I use TwinMotion for rendering.
Lol - well your wish should be granted in 2025 for rendering based on 3D Basecamp of this year! (Theoretically)
The ability to do simply math operations on the distance prompt + - X /
can add a split screen/window for modelling
add line types like batting for insulation
Pattern section fills would be nice
Maybe in SketchUp 2052 ! 😪
If we don't talk about needs / wants, how is SketchUp going to know about them?
Great talk
We need keyframe animation to export animated files
I would like to see a built-in key framing system - that’d be cool as long as it didn’t slow performance
A better exportation from layout to dwg/dxf...
Condivido pienamente quanto hai esposto e spero che ascoltino le tue proposte .... sarebbero molto utili. Un grazie gigantesco per i tuoi video, un valido aiuto
Thank you for watching! :)
I think this is a fair comment - managing sections can get to be a bit much. Are you managing them all with the outliner? That helps me
All of these ideas and tools seem like great ideas, much more useful than the AI stuff they previewed at BC
They substantially improved this in 2024. Can't speak to EXTREME high poly models, but it's much faster
@Thesketchupessentials Yeah i know, Skp is getting better with every new release, but in the end, still needs to use plugins (transmutter) to reduce faces in order to handle heavy models...🤷🏻♂️.
Justify text in LayOut
Like left, right, center? Can you not do this?
Yes dark mode
:)
SketchUp need a list of modify for modeling like 3ds max and a modeling time line tabe history like fusion 360 👍
Modifiers would be sweet (I assume this is similar to Blender modifiers as well). I'm not sure I'd want the timeline - that slows down Fusion pretty fast on bigger models
Intersting....
I thought so
That's why I use rhino which has much more flexibility than user can imagine.
I've used it and don't have problems with it - I just find the functionality much less intuitive with the way individual pieces are handled vs overall objects, etc
You didn't add rendering engine
Announced at Basecamp 2024 - theoretically in the 2025 version?
Dark mode is a mussssssssssst😢
:)
Numbers 10: curic scènes Free…..YOu know it !
I guess I'm more saying that this is a function that SHOULD be a native tool in SketchUp - it shouldn't HAVE to be added by extension.
Loft between poly lines
Agree here
And I think the last time the material pallette was updated was during the Clinton administration
Well they'll have to update it if they're adding rendering
why don't you have the verified checkmark yet?
🤷♂️
Yeah I think maybe UI controllability like that in general would be a nice bonus - would solve several problems I’m hearing mentioned on here
KnowledgeEssentials 😊, You shoud to be Profile Person in newest version, not this gray man without invention. Your oppinion is ideal point of view, You have truth in all aspects. P.S.LiveComponents can be dead od alive, it is not important, not valuable.
I just like to have the conversation :)
A feature rich ipad 3dmodelling would be shapr3d.
Sure - I'd say the Ipad version of SketchUp as Ipad tools go is pretty strong as well if that's where you want to work on 3D
Don't expect these features, just start learning blender and within 1 to 2 years Blender will surpass sketchup and you will already become expert at blender.
Lol - I've been getting comments like this since I started my Blender channel in 2020. Blender still doesn't care about architectural modeling, and that's still ok. :)
