Ok, the fact that Adarl O’Hanlon was originally going to be the voice of Patrick has thrown me for a loop. Dougal voicing a Thomas character would’ve been phenomenal
Connor and Caitlin aren't specifically Irish (given they are American-based engines), but given how there are Irish-American immigrants on each the New York Central and Baltimore & Ohio Railroads, it kinda makes sense.
That makes perfect sense. When one is exposed to a certain culture from birth for a while, they start to assimilate the culture's traits; accents are no exception.
Honestly, the Father Ted intro over Sodor is perfect! I don't think anyone else has done that before. I think the Irish accents and background are the strongest in The Pack as it gives them more of a background of originally being an Irish based construction company. I have some ideas for head canons that are rooted in that heavily. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
My favourite one of your videos without a doubt! I just love the Irish representation you added to your video, gotta love the Irish lads 😆 Lá Fheile Pádraig Sona Duit! Sláinte! 🍻🇮🇪☘️
Well, that's a nice video on the characters with Irish accents in Thomas. Very well done. As for what the Blue E2 said, it would've been nice if Patrick appears more in the spinoff and main show to show more of his character and fleshing him out if given the chance for writers to try it out. He deserves it in my honest opinion. Happy St. Patrick's Day from me, a fellow Irish man as well.
As an american, and i'm fine if you don't want to do it, but for the fourth of July, could you do all the American characters but specifically those built by American builders.
Okay I thought that's why the two US streamliners had Irish accents! Locomotive building from what I can tell was a popular industry for immigrants. Both Connor & Caitlin were built by major builders in the East as well, ALCo and Baldwin, not in-house builds like a lot of British engines, or even roads like the PRR and N&W. On top of that, the two were distinctly built for service to (or close to) the NYC area so I think they'd have had more exposure to it? The accents are Irish, no question, but America is built on mixing and adapting cultures from all over! Happy St. Patrick's day lads!
You Already being one of my favourite Thomas UA-camrs, I really did enjoy this video a lot And it was funny to know a railway series character I never heard about.
SgtDuckys reveal at the end made me literally exlaim ''no fucking way '' at my screen, great vid lads, its brilliant to find a community of fellow irish train fans
The basis for Luke was a Kerr Stuart Locomotive "Johnny" which worked hauling V-skip wagons on the Kynoch explosives factory railway at Arklow in the early 1900s
I was born in Ireland but moved away to Canada at age 8 (I'm Black btw) so I've got some Irish in me. I watched TTTE as a kid but I never saw any of the Irish characters or even knew they had any so seeing this brought a smile to my face. Not to mention the cameo from Sgt. Ducky, one of my favorite UA-camrs so raibh maith agat!
As an Irish fan myself, I love Luke! It's a real shame that the show did little to nothing with him after S17, but at the same time, considering what BWBA was like, he more than likely would have had a different voice actor and sounded like the potato from Sausage Party. Lá fhéile Phádraig sona dhaoibh!
Bro I was so excited for this to come out today at 4:30 am but then I realized you meant you will be uploading it on YOUR Sunday bc were I live its almost Monday
My great great grandpa being my grandma's grandpa was Irish himself and my grandpa I think had ancestors come over to the U.S. during the famine years so yeah I can totally believe Connor and Caitlin being built by Irish people would make some sense
Freddie is a replacement for Ivo Hugh and Ivo Hugh's basis, Tom Rolt, is rebuilt from a bord na móna locomotive. This may have been made known to the creators after the fact.....or they just wanted to make him Irish
If Kathleen no. 2 from the cavern and leitrim was a character in Thomas and friends then this list would have it no. 1 and the narrow gauge engines would be like: You look like a express engine!
One of my nana’s has a holiday house near Dromod, so I’ve been to the Cavan and Leitrim a few times. I’ve even headcanoned Luke originally working there before coming to Sodor.
Why IS He so Low on the List Fridie IS a goat one of the best characters in Thomas DARK AGE even If i Like season 8-11 and find 26 OK Thomas cynic Made a great Video on him
I mean his grace did travel around the world and they way his character acts it’s no surprise that he would surprise the fat controller by bringing back with him 2 huge American steam engines and rebuild a castle with his own private engine
I know I'm not big on trains
But I've always been a big fan of the Limerick Junction announcement in Irish
The coldest place in Ireland
nGawull limneeeeegh
At least ye have an announcer. I vaguely remember Midleton in Cork just had a man. The announcer in Limerick would be more understandable.
Have you ever had a drink of ginnis
Just keep a distance from the station in Tralee lad. It's a cesspool of crackheads there.
The Father Ted Intro at the beginning as awesome! Such a great show!

Luke Is A Little Irish Bean Who Should Be Protected At All Costs
Like a little narrow gauge leprechaun.
Connor and Caitlin aren't specifically Irish (given they are American-based engines), but given how there are Irish-American immigrants on each the New York Central and Baltimore & Ohio Railroads, it kinda makes sense.
I’m not sure whether or not to headcanon them as British or Irish engines based on American designs.
Oh so they are Irish immigrants, huh?
@@kevin-2.1 they could be that or American emigrants, but their Irish accents leave me unsure.
Maybe their parts were from America, but they were just built in Ireland. Something like in Victor Tanzig's series.
That makes perfect sense.
When one is exposed to a certain culture from birth for a while, they start to assimilate the culture's traits; accents are no exception.
Who's that handsome lad with the long hair? Was a great privilege to be apart of this video. Irish Boys Abú!!!

Isn't it funny that Luke is the only Blue Mountain Quarry narrow gauge engine with an Irish accent while the others are Welsh? Very inclusive.
Duncan is scottish.
@@plaina3806 You're right. I almost forgot about that, which was partially the reason why he didn't appear in 'Blue Mountain Mystery'.

Universe-wise, Freddie is definitely a smaller version of Russell. The real loco is way too big for the Skarloey railway
I remember my parents bringing me to the local Xtra-Vision and getting me Blue Mountain Mystery and I absolutely adored every second Luke was onscreen

Always nice seeing a video related to my country
ur a disapointment get outta here
I love in Northern Ireland and nice to know that there's more Thomas Fans from Irish countries and Luke is definitely my favorite Irish character
You Already being one of my favourite Thomas UA-camrs, I really did enjoy this video a lot And it was funny to know a railway series character I never heard about.

I appreciate the ducky cameo, it's what brought me here. Excellent video, great analysis. As an aspie how could I not love this lmao
Luke is the cutest engine on Sodor. He’s just so wholesome
The basis for Luke was a Kerr Stuart Locomotive "Johnny" which worked hauling V-skip wagons on the Kynoch explosives factory railway at Arklow in the early 1900s
Thank you so much for making this Irish Thomas video. You and all the Irish boys made this video a spectacular one. Even if I wasn't involved.
When I saw this on my recommended I burst out laughing. Love the vid!
2:35 "who the FUCK is Murphy??" I literally spit my water out help 😭
you have now entered the comedy zone 😎👍
Murphy kinda reminds me of Thumper from Rusty and the Boulder in a way.
Great video! It would be fun to see a ranking of American Engines in Thomas for the 4th of July. That would be fun to see!
Buddy thank you so much for mentioning me in the description. I feel so honoured 😀

Im part Irish, so I like this
Edit: I think the reason why people like Connor more is because of his basis, the NYC Dreyfus hudsons
Surprised that there were a small cast of characters that were Irish. But I do agree that Luke is the best Irish character in Thomas
In my opinion Conner had a bit more depth then Caitlin but she is still brilliant great vid btw
YES! Just what I wanted to learn about Irish characters as I'm Irish 🇮🇪
Indeed we are old friend
There’s few irish characters because Ireland uses broad gauge
I do think this is a good video
I actually guessed and predicted Luke was Irish before even looking it up lmao
1:34 Of course it wouldn't be an Irish focused video without 'Come out, ye Black & Tans' featuring at least once.
Whatever next? 'The foggy Dew'?
When the Irish people got their moment to shine in a Thomas video great
As an Irish fan myself, I love Luke! It's a real shame that the show did little to nothing with him after S17, but at the same time, considering what BWBA was like, he more than likely would have had a different voice actor and sounded like the potato from Sausage Party.
Lá fhéile Phádraig sona dhaoibh!
As a Irish nerd I love the use of the Irish rebel music
You all deserve to be proud of your heritage
And I definitely appreciate learning a tiny smidge of Irish
We need more from Murphy, only in one cameo and such a waste of a wonderful idea for a character. 😊
He’s now reminding me of Thumper from season 5.
JAESUS the fucking legend in at the end of the video. fantastic video lads.
Interesting video, never thought I'd see a video on this topic but I'm glad I have.
11:39 I find that Alfie's theme also sounds very Irish, that and him being painted green in spite of the fact he's not on this list.
Was that black and tans in the background?
Me talking nonsense will forever be my legacy
Did you know that in the original May 1999 script of TATMR, Patch was going to be Irish?
Connor and Caitlin American basis with Irish accents located on a British island
13:35 unexpected
I'd prefer Patrick to be American anyway, given that his basis is American designed according to the Thomas wiki.
P.S. Happy St. Patty's Day, Adam!

He's a good Irish boy :(
I honestly never picked up on Luke’s accent in the US version but he is such a fun character I wish he got more screen time
I always thought Ardal o Halon would go great for Kelly
My great great grandpa being my grandma's grandpa was Irish himself and my grandpa I think had ancestors come over to the U.S. during the famine years so yeah I can totally believe Connor and Caitlin being built by Irish people would make some sense
I thinK people like Connor better due to how iconic his basis is

Freddie is a replacement for Ivo Hugh and Ivo Hugh's basis, Tom Rolt, is rebuilt from a bord na móna locomotive. This may have been made known to the creators after the fact.....or they just wanted to make him Irish
I think that’s probably coincidental.

I totally agree with this entire ranking
If Kelly had returned in CGI, I could see him being voiced by Brendan Gleeson.
Or David Carling in his Trevor Evans voice.
I think Cillain Murphy could do a good Kelly voice. Or they’d most likely have Tim Whitnall or Keith Wickham voice him with a Northern Irish accent.
Can you do Scottish characters next
Can’t say I was expecting a Sgt Ducky cameo 😂
Gotta keep ye on your toes
Can You, please, do the ranking for Scottish characters? For no particular reason, not for any holiday?

It’s possible. I think Kelly would certainly have an Irish accent if he comes back in the revival era.
