Maybe I'm alone on this but I'd like to see him return to Greece. In interviews with the director after the game came out, he kept referring to Kratos as a "re-builder." Kratos returning to Greece to undo some of the damage he's done, while confronting some of his old fellow gods (either through violence or peaceful means) that could of survived the war I think would be a really interesting angle to tackle.

@@sentientmustache8360 The Roman gods should be treated as their own thing while they're in the positions where the Greek pantheon once stood, much like how Roman mythology was it's own thing before it was syncretised with Greek mythology. For example, Mars, in-contrast with Ares, should be depicted as a genuinely heroic war god who fights for peace and he was originally a farmer. That would lead to an interesting story with fun conflict for Kratos in a game involving the Roman pantheon.

In Tyr’s vault for God of War, there was Egyptian treasure. GoW can pivot to Atreus’ curiosity to visit Egypt through Tyr’s guidance. This could also allow Sindri to pursue Anubis in an attempt to bring back Brok causing conflict with the Norse gods and Yggdrasil. A pissed off protector of the realm Kratos could make an end game appearance.

I was thinking something similar. Also, considering that the Greek and Egyptian worlds had contact it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine one or more Greek warriors fled their homeland when it fell into chaos and settled in Egypt, and that they'd have a personal score to settle with the Ghost of Sparta.

That wouldnt work though. Its been said that each country has its pantheon and thus its own set of rules. If you die in midgard, you're going to Helheim or Valhalla, if you die in Greece you get the Underworld etc.

That wouldn’t make sense Atreus left Midgard before Kratos and Freya found the real Tyr. Besides, according to Mimir the Egyptian pantheon, it’s kind of different “they’re not good or evil” so you would need a really, really, *really* good reason to start slaughtering gods that seem to just be chillin in their own country💀

I think staying in Midgard as its protector feels most compelling. However, I would simply use the death of Odin and the fall of Asgard to create a power vacuum that invited invasion from other pantheons, ideally Slavic or Irish (I think there was a throwaway line from Mimir that might imply he may be connected to or aware of Irish/Gaelic mythology). The story could then focus on Kratos' struggle to lead in the face of the adversity of another pantheon while flipping back and forth to Atreus' journey from being a boy to a man as he searches for the giants, saves people, makes his own mistakes, etc.

I feel that kratos “ravaging” a new pantheon would completely undermine his development throughout the 2 games. Kratos leaving Midgard to perhaps protect Midgard from another pantheon (considering the power vacuum created through the destruction of Asgard may tempt other gods to pursue conquest) maybe through diplomacy and honorable warfare, that could work. I like the idea of Kratos continuing his journey of growth by learning how to be a leader and a true god. Idk could be cool

I personally think Kratos will be taking a bit of a retirement story wise, for now at least
In the first Trilogy, he was the slayer of Greece, the Ghost of Sparta, and he completed his quest
Then there is a break, over a century of him calming down but not finding peace. He starts 2018 by being far more neutral (rarely wishing to interact with strangers, only spurred by his son who wishes to do good)
The Norse games allowed him to grow into a genuinely good person, who tries to find ways to help and heal. With this, he passed down his training to Atreus, the next generation, and now his son is striking it out on his own.
I think a Miles Morales game would be the best compromise between sales as well as story, with Kratos making a cameo appearance for the sake of marketing and fanservice. This way, the story still remains on the same track but also giving a new focus on Atreus to win over more fans for a full solo game. The only way we'll see Kratos as a lead again is once Atreus is fully matured and the story focuses on how they interact and potential differences.

If you pay attention, there's been enough background information in GOW Ragnarok of that location that could be explored more in a future title. Would fit Atreus' personal quest too given how much giants play in British Folklore as well.

They could also further Mimir’s backstory. Ragnarok has already done this a great deal with the Fates calling him puck, him knowing the story of Macbeth, and recognizing the Kelpie which is prevalent in Scottish mythology, which is also what his accent is.
So with a British game we could have it take place partially in Scotland.

I would personally love a game where the plot involves the Greek gods that Kratos didn’t slay coming for revenge. Like Phobos, son of Ares. Or Artemis.
It would force Kratos to truly face his past, and to show how far he’s come since then by actually facing those he’s hurt.

I like the idea of Kratos having to deal with invaders due to the power vacuum Odin left behind, be it another pantheon or some other villainous dweller of the 9 realms, for most of his life Kratos was the invader, he was the foreign monster wrecking havoc in other people's land, whatever the reasoning may be, good or bad. it would interesting to see him being the defender now that he's settled as the leader of Midgard, another way to mirror the 3rd game's villain with Kratos' past

A prequel has technically been explored through a series of comics with Kratos, one of which involved him arriving in Egypt and meeting with Osiris who put him to a test, and Athena followed him there. So a full prequel, probably not, but it'd be interesting.
Considering that Odin is gone and Tyr is properly returned, I wouldnt be surprised if by him reaching out to reconnect with the other pantheons, another god of war from another pantheon believes it an opportunity to challenge the god that killed Odin. Possibly bringing other gods with them to seek him out.

I hope there's a "Finding the Giants" DLC with Atreus/Loki rather than a full game with him.
But mostly hope that the next GoW game is a prequel where Kratos goes back to "his old ways" with another mythology before he goes to Norse mythology. But I'd love to see an end credit scene where Kratos escapes whichever mythology it is he's in and ends up in Midgard, and finds a tree with one of Fayes marks on, and we see the Leviathan axe hit the tree, telling us Faye is behind him, and the game ends, showing what Faye said about when she first met Kratos in Midgard.

The idea of Kratos having to deal with invaders is super interesting. I personally thought of another God Of War from a different pantheon leading a war against Atreus and therefor the Giants, Kratos, etc.. Maybe Atreus' mistake you proposed could have ended in the ramification of him having gotten into quarrel with that very God Of War. Seeing Kratos as some sort of benevolent God Of War face of against this other God Of War, who would be similar to what Kratos was in GoW 3, would allegorically result in Kratos' final faceoff with his past self. Only downside to this is that there really isn't much more to explore in the Nine Realms (as far as I know).

An interesting story I could see is Kratos returning to Egypt[as he did go there in a comic] to meet and learn from the gods there, to be taught how to be a better god for his people. Only for the Romans and their gods to invade and conquer like they do in real life. These gods which look and act similar to the Greek gods Kratos killed so long ago now suddenly appearing in his life like a nightmare of his past haunting him again. We had moments in the Norse games of Kratos confronting his past traumas from back in Greece but he's never really fully moved past them. A story where he's forced to confront seemingly all of the Greek gods again but with the maturity and aversion to mindless killing that he has now could really give us a truer deeper understanding of Kratos

After all, he's basically the protector of the realms now, and with Atreus gone then another thing at stake would be whether his son is safe or not, maybe even jumping between characters again as they have two fronts in which they have to defend against, idk the egyptian/aztec/etc gods

I've actually written nearly a whole story about it where Atreus hears the stories of Giants in the UK after a few years of searching all of Scandinavia for them, and with little luck there, along with a off screen complicated duo relationship with Angrboda and Thrud, goes there with Mimir (As Mimir of course left with what sounds like Unfinished business) but, as Atreus finds more giants like Finn McCool in Ireland (Who would be dour and scarred from a battle with Thor on his way out of Jotunheim) where also there's exploration of Arthurian Mythology, but it's all interrupted by Demons of Biblical Mythology who are either recruiting gods or killing them. Atreus could have a reconciliation with Sindri by forging Excalibur! That was my thought at least.

It is my theory that Thor ascended, in the same way as Athena, by standing up to Odin right before his death. We've seen many gods die but only Athena and Thor had the same "particalization" happen to them at their deaths. There are a few external lore pieces from the game that go on to feature the ascended god, namely Athena and an Egyptian god. I believe the next game is either confirmed or highly speculated to occur in Egypt. If that is the case, I really hope that the story moves on to cover the concept of ascension and I hope to see Thor make a return!

Hell, they could even make Athena have reformed the Greeks under a Roman identity and having the older gods Kratos fought fight him once more under different names. Creating a story where the roles flip and kratos is being hunted by a godslayer. After the destruction of greece, the surviving greeks scattered across mythologies, all telling stories of the ghost of sparta. After hearing of the death of odin, all the pantheons get concerned for their own safety and recruit the greeks that migrated to their lands to launch a preemptive assault on midgard. Loki can play a part too, having either been captured or embittered after hearing the stories of his father in greece. I think this idea has a ton of potential, it keeps the action going without sacraficing any of kratos' growth, and even allows him to grow more, now having to handle hostile pantheons while protecting the 9 realms

A fifth option is to tell a story set in the GoW universe, with similar gameplay, but from a different character we haven’t met before. At this point, Kratos has eviscerated two pantheons. That’s gotta destabilize the others, right? Maybe an Egyptian or Aztec character dealing with the fallout, and potentially coming across Kratos and Atreus over the course of the story? That way Santa Monica Studio can create something that respects Kratos’ character growth, without giving up the satisfying gameplay that sells a bunch of PS5s.

Since God of War, 3 they've been hinting at primal Gods that predated everything. With some theories that in God of War 3 Athena was something called the Demiurge and has been recruiting Gods to fight on its behalf against its creator. This would follow the God of War's cycle, where the children and parents of Gods will eventually kill each other. The thing that Odin saw when peering with the Mask being the Demiurge tricking him to reforge the mask so it can use it. With Kratos leading those against the Demiurge and on the side if its creator.
Honestly, I would love a human/mortal uprising. Seems out there but what if the humans start to rise up against the Gods. It would follow the cycle as humans are technically the children of the Gods and they decide enough is enough and rebel. Heck if they really want Kratos to atone for his crimes, maybe have a kid he may of had with the many women he slept with hunt him down. Forcing to finally face what he did to his homeland.

I liked 95% of Atreus' story. What mainly held me back from going onto his, or quickly playing through his, was because of his combat mechanics. I'm so used to having a melee combat mechanics like Kratos', Atreus solely using the bow, even with the melee mechanics it had, felt very limiting to me. I think if he had a sword of his own that Brok made for him at some point in the game to go along with Sindri's magic shield would have been a nice addition to have and switch between the bow and the sword.
I think an interesting story would be a Laufey prequel that happens in the time period before Kratos arrives at Midgard. It would be nice to step into the mysterious or Laufey and we'll be using the Leviathan Axe at some point in the story, whether from the beginning of the story or it's something we get halfway through the story.

I think a good solution to the whole "Kratos abandoning Midgard" problem would be to have Midgard serve as the "Sindri's house" of the next game. Kratos spends most of his time in Egypt/Rome/Mesoamerica etc, but he can still meet his allies, explore around, and do side quests in Midgard. Maybe even have a few story quests take place there for good measure

A game I would like to see for the future is a prequel game of Faye, because it has a lot of potential when it comes to finally shedding some light on the most subtlety mysterious character in the Norse games Faye. There's a lot of fan theories out there about her past but I still feel like there is not enough attention on her character. My personal theory could also relate to a potential story line that could intrigue the player base for an Atreus game, because I believe that Faye is the daughter of Odin and may have been the one to have killed her and Thor's mother only for Thor to cover it up and make it look like the evidence was pointing to him. A game that centers around that could also give some needed Darkness to Atreus and his character that the fans can grab on too.

Another idea would be a spinoff game where the main protagonist is either freya or thrud or angrboda. It would go to either the past or future depending on the main protagonist.
If it was freya the story would be about her life with her brother and the vanir, the war between the aesir and the vanir, her life in asgard, her relationship with baldur before the curse and how she ended in midgard. It would also shine light on many other things. Like how did they come to the agreement of her marrying odin and just how happy she was before he revealed his true colours. It would also show what her relationships were with the other aesir gods. We could see what her relationship with thor was, her relationship sif, her relationship with tyr, her relationship with magni and modi (that is if they were already born at that time), her relationship with heimdall (even if it was a bad one), and with all the other gods. It would also see what baldur was truly like before the whole spell incident. We would also see events like the one with hrimthur and the stone wall, the situation with thrym, and alot more. We would also have things revealed like what freyr said at her wedding and how she met faye. We would also see like how she went to the norns to learn of baldur's fate and how odin exiled her. And how she met chaurli.
If it was thrud the story would be about her journey to becoming a valkyrie and her finding her own adventure. We would also have flashbacks of her relationship with magni and modi. We might be running into other gods, but one thing is for certain: we would see her making a much better use for mjolnir.
And finally we have angrboda. Her story would probably be about what she was doing during the god of war events. We would see what she was doing before she met atreus, what she did after atreus left her to go back to kratos and what she did after giving the marbles to atreus. We would see what finally made her go back and help atreus after she said that her role was done. We would se what she did offscreen in the events of ragnarok. We would also know what her backstory is.
Bonus: if it wouldn't be one of these three then it would someone else. Someone who we only saw in flashbacks. Someone who had more of a narrative presence in the game. Someone important to kratos and atreus. And that someone would be faye. It would be really cool to play as faye and know more about her. We would now her life in jotunheim, we would know her her battle with thor, we would know how she met kratos, and most of all...how she died. It would be really great to play as faye. I dont know about you guys but i would love to see her battle with thor. It's been in my head for so long, we would see just how much like kratos she was when she was enraged. And we would see how she fought kratos. Imagine that: being able to have a boss foght against kratos. That would be really cool if you ask me.
Whichever of these would happened would have one thing in common. They would change alot of our prespective on the other character and make some scenes more emotional or tragic or sadder. Like freya's story would make freyr's death sadder and his asking for forgivness more emotional and baldur's story more tragic. Thrud's story make her more sympathetic sense it would show how she felt about her brothers death (if she had a good relationship woth them) and angrboda's story would be alot clearer and make her more likable.
As for faye, we would have more detail on her character and her story. And we would know even more just how much her death effected kratos

5:15 i feel like this is the right prediction, afterall a quote from atreus reading the writing on the mask is "this isnt from the nine realms " so it possible he would wonder out far enough to find a place where another mythology is rulling

I think the most compelling direction for the story to go is Atreus becoming a man who’s made mistakes and become cruel and merciless from his journey and conquering a pantheon. Kratos traveling to reunite with his son and finding a man he doesn’t recognize and creating new alliances and freeing gods and dieties who have had to submit to Atreus in order to attempt and save him

Apparently there are comics covering a snippet of Kratos' journey beyond Greece where he actually ends up in Egypt. I'm not sure if it's canon, but maybe they could take the opportunity to adapt and expand it. Hell, we could maybe have that pantheon slaughtering game in Egypt before the events of the Norse saga.

One option I think would be interested in being made would be Kratos going back to Greece to fix what he had broken. This could be like you said Greece finding him and that makes him head back, or they could take Atreus and he has to go save him, or what I think would be the most interesting is him hearing of an issue there, gods ravaging Sparta or something and he willingly goes to save them.

Tbh the egypt setting would be really interesting all things considered + the egyptian mythology window is already open in the GOW series ( I think he had a dialogue during one of the earlier games pre 2018 reboot with a goddess from the egyptian pantheon)

Crazy idea, The Greek Pantheon is reborn as the Roman Pantheon. Atreus has found his way there and Kratos is forced to find him but also deal with his past. Can even make it so the Roman gods have no memory of who Kratos is. Imagine being able to tell the original story through a more nuanced story craft. I agree idk how much more Kratos can grow as a lead, but it would certainly be a good story if that growth was tested. Imagine Kratos coming to find Atreus working with Mars, The confusion he would feel knowing this isnt really Ares the internal struggle not to repeat his past as they may threaten his new family. This could also have a lot to do with how all the pantheons fit together how a pantheon could be reborn, How the Greek Roman Norse and Egyptian gods can all be real in this universe.

personaly i would love to see a game about atreus. i love kratos as much as the next guy but Ragnarök really felt like a perfect end for his tale and i dont want to risk it ending up like say the simpsons. maybe have loki going to Greece, meeting the surviving Olympians, and learn in detail exactly what his farther did

If they do actually create an Atreus stand alone game I think it would make sense for him to use blades like thorfinn from Vinland saga the combat because his mother gifted him a knife as well as paying homage to his viking heritage.

I've heard a theory floated around that Atreus could start falling into his role as the trickster Loki while traveling and end up pissing off the wrong pantheon, forcing Kratos to intervene so he isn't killed.

It makes sense for Kratos to go to Egypt. Tyr the previous god of war traveled to many places, Egypt was one of those places and now they have oppressive gods and are in need of Kratro's help, so he goes there trying the diplomatic approach due to his personal growth and is met with tremendous resist because of his reputation for slaying gods. It's possible that Atreus goes there in his search for the lost giants and he makes bad decisions and mistakes like you said, now Kratos must confront and edgier more grown up version of his son , while also liberating Egypt.

To elaborate on one of the possibilities, during the apocalypse Kratos left behind Some of the gods from the Egyptian pantheon move in to help. Maybe even start fighting a turf war with the Russian pantheon. Once that's all settled The Greeks do seek out vengeance. I personally like the idea of the Egyptian pantheon help in some way if only to see Anubis with his scale judging Kratos and having the scale break. However you could also have the Russian pantheon come along with Chernabog.
I do believe the other options would be better but this seems fun
