Sometimes I present a visual timer (they have some on Amazon or even a sand timer works) to my toddler so she knows when she can come out. I’ll put it in a place where she can’t reach it.

My parents did quiet time for me from before I can remember until I was 10 or so. My siblings and I stayed in our rooms for an hour, and could read, listen to audio books, or play with toys. We also would sometimes play with each other. The big thing was that we couldn't have screens. I think the purpose is twofold. It gives parents a chance to get chores done without kids under foot, so my mom and dad cleaned the house and did the dishes, and it gives kids more independence and skills to regulate themselves. Doing quiet time without a device helped me learn to entertain myself and deal with boredom. I also got to develop my own interests through books my parents got me. Overall, I think it's really beneficial for kids and adults, even if the kids dislike it at first. (Sorry for the long reply)

I started my kids while they were in their cribs still... they had books (that they couldn't rip/chew) and i started leaving them in the crib for 15min after they woke from their nap. As they got older that time lengthened. We also got a sleep training clock. Now my 4 year old rests (sometimes naps) for an hour and half then plays quietly in her room once her clock turms green til i come get her.
It has worked great for us, starting in the crib when they couldn't destroy anything 😂

I am not a mom so I am not trying to tell anyone they’re parenting wrong or trying to correct anyone but I am taking psychology more specifically in the area of child development. Something i’ve learned is that it’s best to separate your play/work space from your sleeping area to help improve either area depending on where you are. It’s proven that studying in your bed isn’t as beneficial as studying at a desk or table etc… I obviously know it doesn’t work for everyone because some people have a large home and others are in a 1-2 bedroom place with little space, but I find from what I learned having a separate play area and a safe bedroom for kids to go to that they’re able to be left alone unsupervised essentially is safer for the child and benefits them in some ways. What I mean by that is making sure the bedroom is safe to play in and removing anything harmful as well as keeping toys that could keep the child awake in a separate area. My mother kept only books and stuffed animals in our rooms and we had a designated toy room in the basement. If she didn’t do that my bedtime would have probably been so messed up. It also helped encouraged reading more than playing with toys which one isn’t necessarily better than the other because reading helps in its own way and playing helps with motor skills and exploring but if that hadn’t had happened I may not have been so skilled at reading so early on. Of course every child works differently and I can’t speak on the motherly side of it but I feel like it’s a beneficial option for many:) I love the dedication to keeping him safe with the way you went through and organized his play room!

yrs and taken early childhood development classes and education. i taught middle school for 7yrs. i have a masters degree. this is not healthy for the child in the long run. this looks like mom wants a break and can't figure out how to make her kid obey and follow direction. you literally have to remove everything bc your kid has no self control and you have no control.

Toddler with these rage issues?? Omg what a nightmare to live with. Many decades ago there was a toddler with similar raging. Mom allowed it, having tried several approaches w/no success. Dad came home from deployment. Saw the raging for 1st time. Said hell no, not in my house. Beat the toddler's butt and good. I never threw another rage fit and I grew up just fine, with a healthy understanding of how bad behavior brings unpleasant consequences. This " in charge of his own body" crap is going to haunt you bigtime. You as tbe parent. You are in charge. Not the toddler. If he destroys his things, they get taken away and not returned. He must learn to demonstrate some self-control and some awareness of the consequences of bad behavior. Yes, even toddlers can begin to comprehend these concepts. Right now you have a small child running the family dynamic and that is very dangerous. You're in for a world of trouble my dear.

it's like a baby monitor, toddlers are not as responsible as grown kids
would you rather your kid get hurt and you not know right away?

Wow maybe understand that 2 year olds still don’t know how to regulate and manage their emotions. They test boundaries all the time and for his first time being left alone in his room he thought if he made a mess it would get my attention. That’s what toddlers do.

@@BriannaBado ik ik but like idk its not the greatest to have security cams inside the house since its super easy to just like... access the footage? sad. i hate any kind of tech like that since you KNOW the companies WILL cut corners but you do what you wanna do girl!!
also i feel like its a breach on his privacy... I've never dealt with cams in the house but it just feels so insecure... imagine ur a kid and you rely on safety and security and there's and "eye" in your room and you don't know when you're being looked at and everything you're doing is being recorded. he may be a toddler but that to me is just... :(

the kids being watched with a baby monitor and she took away things that the kid might destroy or hurt himself with for 15 minutes. sometimes parents have things they have to do in the house without the kid getting in the way like taking phonecalls or cleaning something.
