Fantastic again, Liz. One of my many problems is that when I say a phrase, it is understood but then the person I am talking to goes into replying at breakneck speed thinking that I can understand them and I am left standing open-mouthed, looking totally confused! Hey ho.
I guess you should tell them to slow down a bit. In addition to knowing common contractions of words. This is a problem in essentially every language, but a problem that'll last longer in stressed timed ones! Good luck.
The more you practice your listening the better you will be able to understand people. Invest your time in watching local TV shows, listening to radio or even youtube videos. One day you will have a click and it will pay off 😊
Love your videos, trying to learn mainland Portuguese. One suggestion if it’s not too much trouble. Would you let the sentences linger longer on the screen and repeat the pronunciation please. 🙏🏻
Great video! We just moved to Portugal and my brain freezes every time I want to speak in Portuguese to someone beyond Olá 😂 these phrases will definitely help 🤩

I am trying to learn so I can speak to my Madeiran Lady friend in Portuguese and your videos are helping me understand the basics of pronunciation and phrasing. Every morning I send her a Bom Dia message written in portuguese and copied from a translation app, she finds it very romantic. But a lot of what I write I am doing so parrot fashion. I will get there though, I am stubborn :)
Excellent expressions! A lot I have learned before but haven't used in a little while. Great review and as well has some new expression too. Obrigado Liz!
I am new here and I like your channel Liz because I’ve really seen some of your videos and they’re all amazing but I have a concern e which is I will be relocating to Portugal soon I will like to get your contact so you can put me through when am finally there. Thanks dear
@@brunomadeira8432 Obrigado! Eu entendo "stuck for words", mas eu nunca uso essas palavras em inglês. Eu digo "i'm speechless". Português é mais logico! Sou americano.
@@KarlLew Se estivesse a falar inglês também usaria "speechless". Apesar de ter estudado formalmente Inglês britânico, uma pessoa acaba por ter muito mais influência dos EUA. Sinceramente não sei se o "speechless" é bem aceite no RU.
Native portuguese speaker for almost 60 years: Frio de rachar is a bit too casual, yes. We don't use it very commonly, and if we do, it's because we wish to enfazise how cold it is by talking like uneducated people. Portuguese is full of these nuances. Stay with Muito frio, you can't go wrong with that one.
so i know that if someone greets me with "tudo bem?" I can respond "tudo, voce?" But if someone starts with "entao?" what is the correct way to respond?
Hi! You can respond with "tudo, e você?" but this is quite formal, and sometimes considered a little rude to use the word você - check this video for more on this topic - ua-cam.com/video/kcMYvsKeyf4/v-deo.htmlsi=K0GEJAqyo0W9L7LO If someone says "então!" you can simply say "tudo bem?"
Oi? In Portugal???? Really??? 🙄 I wonder how that is received if you are not a Brazilian national. I would not try it. No point on being perceived as rude. Brazilian Cultural identity is fine, if you are Brazilian. If you are not Brazilian you might flatter more the Portuguese if you stick to Portuguese regional expressions. Nice video though. Cheers
I agree. I'm from Fall River Massachusetts and most of the community here is Azorean and I'd say saying Oi to one of them would definitely raise a few eyebrows.
Ok. Unpopular opinion but Brazilian Portuguese is larger considered both easier and prettier than European Portuguese. You will never be accepted as a local so why not just go full Brazilian?
Who will you try these phrases on?
Hola!! How can I learn Portuguese with you? Do you work at a school or have your own school?

Boas or Oi are VERY informal . You must not use it to salute someone you don't know or at a service.
You are really a loving teacher

🤔Então, como se diz “stuck for words” em português? 😍 Obrigado!
It's quite similar. Estou sem palavras ou fiquei sem palavras. No singular também funciona (palavra em vez de palavras).

I always like your video but please do allow the translation stay a bit longer on the screen before moving to another phrase. Keep the good job up
I recommend stopping the video and practising each phrase for as long as you need :)
How different is it from the one in Brasil? They say the Brazilian one is more relatable? I'm open minded. Are the accents that different?
4:22 do we not need to say the word um/uma or was it pronounced so fast i didnt hear it?
It's very brief! There's a little nasal "um" sound after the "está" that connects it with de "dia". It nasalizes the "á" of "está" a bit as well.
We do need to pronounce it yes! :)
@@TalktheStreets ah ok. Thanks

Hi Liz ! Wouldn't it be better to just say , esta' muito frio ,or, que frio ! instead of, que frio de rachar ? I never say de rachar .
Hi! "Que frio de rachar" is commonly used by Portuguese people
@@TalktheStreets No, you mean it's rarely used by portuguese people .
