So many variables to consider! Trying to hit that sweet spot between tight and loose so that the finish is appropriately snug. Logically one would think the edge would get wider when the ends are woven back in. The fabric in this example is pretty stiff. I have been experimenting with how tight the Damascus part should be, and how much I want to tighten the warp when weaving the ends in. This example will be OK for the bags I’m making, but I want a better edge for rugs or saddle blankets. I mentioned in my other video that I want to try a thinner warp or a wider spacing for the warp with this particular weft. Thanks Richard.
Do you wet finish before or after tying the damascus knots?
I don't always wet finish wool, although I do like to give it a press with the steam iron. I always finish my edges before doing anything else.
Maybe the warp you are doing needs to be loser. Don't pull it as tight. Just an idea. I am a weaver also.
