    For those who don’t know, when Sheeran tells Hoffa he “Also does his own carpentry” after Hoffa says “I heard you paint houses?”. That means he disposes of the bodies himself. In case anyone was curious, that’s what that means.
    Edit: Gun prices in the 60s & 70s weren’t as expensive as they are today, but they were still a decent price for any normal blue collar working man. For these guys, you have to remember how much money they were making between their regular job & money made not so legally. For instance, Frank, he was making so much as a Local Teamsters Union Leader/President (whatever his position was), plus whatever he makes doing hits. The amount of money he was paid for each hit, take out the money to replace the firearm used, still going to have 90-98% of what you were paid. That’s depending on the amount paid & amount spent on whatever firearm you used. Plus, being that you’re in that life, there was probably a wiseguy who sold new & used firearms cheaper than store price. Hope that helps answer the question you asked about firearms and ho2 much they’d be spending on them.

    You were COMPLETELY correct not to see this movie until you had seen all the many movies of these guys you've been doing on this channel! What a loooong journey it's been! Lots of long - but great! - mob movies with these great actors chewing up the scenery. And with all the research you did? You will be the ONLY reactor to get some of this stuff. Ok, settling in now to watch!!!

    Holy smokes, your intro is INCREDIBLE. The viewer immediately relaxes because they can see how much you already bring to the table, as far as mob knowledge./ Holy moly, Shelby, I'm getting CHILLS watching you watch this, you are actually making me like this movie even more!!!! You have so much of this history at your command, you know more than 90% of people who watch this film, plus you've gone through this whole journey with all the artists involved, there is NOTHING you are missing in this movie. The only thing to mention is that Scorsese started out with Keitel! And De Niro's first movie with Scorsese is "Mean Streets"....starring Harvey Keitel! (he's also in "Taxi Driver" and three other Scorsese films, also worked with De Niro on at least one other movie). So THEY have a long history together, as well! / Oh my GOSH, you are a FANTASTIC reactor, holy moly. What a difference it makes when the reactor knows their stuff. You are TEACHING us, as we revisit this movie! I've seen it twice. And it's a joy to revisit it with you. Looking forward to part 2.

    Hoffa’s reaction to JFK being assassinated was meant to imply he at the very least knew it was happening, possibly was involved in it, he didn’t seem surprised or shocked at all, just went to the TV to make sure the job was done, then when he heard he was dead he just went back to eating

    This film is so rich and full of feeling. The de-aging thing was Scorsese's only questionable decision; it didn't work good enough to be worthy of the film, especially when De Niro is having to be physical...he moves like his real age.

    You should really take a look at the Oliver Stone epic "JFK". From the comments you've made here I think you would really enjoy it. That movie had a huge impact on folks of my generation who remember vividly the day Kennedy got shot, because it was the first time the general public got to see the Zapruder film of the assassination. For over 20 years they had withheld it from the public only showing still photos of it claiming it was too grisly or that they didn't want to upset Jackie.
    But in finally seeing it in Stone's movie and realizing for the first time that Kennedy was very obviously killed from the front and not the back as the government had claimed it really had a chilling eye-opening effect to know that we'd been lied to all that time. And we are still being lied to. It's only gotten worse. So it is even more topical today I think than when it was released. And I would love to see the reaction of someone of your generation to see if it has anywhere near the effect. And it stars a Joe Pesci, too. A young Joe Pesci, not one who's been subjected to Scorcese's horrid de-aging process.

    Jack ruby the man who killed the guy who killed jfk has strong mob ties

  • @itt23r
    @itt23r 2 роки тому

    I believe I may have once seen the foot of the guy who really killed Hoffa back in the winter of '75. I was with a friend who was shopping for a new radio for his van and we were in a parking lot of a strip mall on Woodward Ave. in Pontiac MI, when i noticed a white Caddy way in the back of the lot covered in snow even though it hadn't snowed in a week. So it was obviously abandoned. We left and came back a few hours later to get the radio he saw at that store but this time the car was surrounded by cops and they were pulling a body out of the trunk. And I later found out the dead guy was some well known mafia hitman out of NYC. So given how close in time this was to the Hoffa disappearance and the location of the parking lot, which was only a few miles from the restaurant where Hoffa was last seen, I've always wondered whether this was the guy who hit Hoffa and that maybe he was later hit by the mob to separate them from the killing.
    As for the movie, I think the actors were way, way, way too old for their parts and the technique they employed to try to make them look the appropriate age was not in the least bit convincing. It was in fact so bad and so distracting for me i found it impossible to get into the movie. The critics at the time however never mentioned this. And I suspect they were all just scared of what might happen to their careers if they trashed a demigod like Scorcese, so they praised the movie instead. It is the only explanation I can conceive of to explain the high rating this movie got from them and the Academy. It's all politics.

    There's an inside joke here in the scene where Russ sends Frank to drive a truck down to Baltimore to run guns to the anti-Castro Cubans in Florida. Russ tells Frank to meet a weird-looking guy named David Ferrie. Ferrie was a memorable character in the web of various JFK assassination conspiracy theories, a Civil Air Patrol leader who trained Lee Harvey Oswald as a teenager and who became a dedicated anti-Communist who associated with the CIA, its Cuban militia the FRD, and various members of organized crime. Allegedly. He's a major character in the 1991 Oliver Stone film JFK, dealing with the investigation into the assassination, and in that movie he's played by...Joe Pesci.

    To answer your question about the guns:
    Most criminals use cheap pieces of crap like a .32 snubbie (or in modern times, stuff like a Sigma) precisely because they can easily be dumped and subsequently re-acquired. Most high end professionals invest money and more importantly time in their piece like competition shooters with their tricked out race guns, or high end private contractors/military/police with guns that are a bit better built than your standard mil-spec beater AR or something. They've already run it through its paces and had to replace sights, barrels, grips, etc from shooting the hell out of those guns.
    Now, those higher up on the totem pole could afford to arm their personal goons with nicer stuff. But for your standard hitters like Frank? Forget about it. Frank went for common, disposable guns for that exact such purpose. Nothing about his guns is unique, they're all as bland and forgettable in the film as can be (which I personally think is a nice touch). Most films would have a signature gun, but Frank's guns are so often skipped over there's usually not much covered about them other than "it's a gun". Which makes sense given the movie takes place from his perspective and he doesn't value firearms all that much.
