- I tried to complete Hard Rock of The Peak, solo.
Routes in video:
Right unconquerable HVS 5a
Valkyrie HVS 5a
Elder Crack E2 5c
Alcasan E2 5b
Chee Tor Girdle VS 4c
Surplum E1 5b
Suicide Wall HVS 5b
On the solo challenge i decided not to do Debauchery E1 5b, which lies just outside of the Peak District boundaries. However I went back a few weeks later and completed all the routes (including Debauchery) with a climbing partner and a more satisfying time. The solo challenge with Debauchery added can be the joy for someone else 😉👌q

Can’t believe you did it again!
@@rjginsburg with a partner its much more chill. it was actually a very nice day out second time around :) I'm still terrible at cycling though, haha
@@WideBoyz I was wondering about Debauchery. Glad you cleared it up :)
As an ex rd cycalist you could do with more bike time to deaden them arse nerves. Who needs bladder control when Pendle hill is calling.
I did 34 pitches of climbing once. It was a lovely two weeks of my life
lol best comment ever
The UA-cam algorithm kindly led me to this channel after a morbid evening spent watching failed Everest summit attempts. Everything I've watched has been awesome but the stuff with Toby Segar is particularly inspiring and great. After watching those videos I've decided to start climbing, first indoor session lined up for this weekend. Early days yet but feel really motivated to give it a good shot. Just wanted to thank Pete, Tom and Toby for all of the motivation they gave me after watching their content!
:) hope it goes well don’t get too demotivated if it doesn’t go well because 99% of climbing is falling
That is Brilliant to hear 😀 good luck with it all 💪
Awesome! But don't pressure yourself and just try and have fun :)
@@Noviro For sure! Going in with very low expectations of my own ability so expecting there to be a lot of failure at the beginning 😅
@@WideBoyz Cheers! Will be a full blown crack addict in no time 😂
"Don't think roadbiking at night is something I could get into" - proceeds to free solo with a headlamp :D What a champ!
Opening voiceover had me in stitches! Great stuff; a classic Whittaker suffer sesh.
The "Athletic Run" gets me every time.
if there's an opportunity to use it, i do :)
"Not quite thank god ledge is it" actually made me laugh out loud. Not only an incredible climber but also very entertaining and down to earth. Cheers Pete
Well it can't be said you don't work very hard for your content. Inspirational as ever. Well done
cheers for tuning in for all the vids :)
Props to the camera man for truly great footage.
Don't need to say anything about Pete... We all know what he is capable of ... The mad lad ;)
Cameraman Pete did a fantastic job with this one. 1 man band, of filming, editing and chasing me around all day 😅
literally watched four seconds and i'm sold. the intro is everything
looking for this comment lol
could well be my favourite intro of the entire channel, haha
What else is there to say other than: "Good effort!" 😀 Your guys' content surely is one of the most enjoyable, inspiring and entertaining on the interwebs. Thanks so much for all the time, effort and money you put into providing us with all those goodies!
Frekkin' Legend!!! Major kudos for that mighty effort Pete!!
Crack on with the quality, Pete. Top stuff!
Came to your channel from watching you with Magnus. Great content! Love your presenting style and motivation ... I'm now 47 ... currently 24 stone ... and am motivated to do some climbing .. maybe not the best idea haha but I've been taking my 6 year old daughter bouldering and climbing in the Northeast and it has reignited a bit of passion for it. Nice to see some outdoor content and as an ex photographer and videographer who used to live on the edge of the Peaks in Sheffield it was a pleasure to see some of the stunning scenery. If you ever need a spare cameraman or drone pilot particularly if you are up in the North give me a heads up. I have a particularly terrible car channel on here and would be amusing to do something car and climbing related. God knows what tho haha!!
loves these challenge videos, fantastic content!
40 seconds in: Best intro ever! Love it.
This is hellish, awesome!
Wow, that was amaaaazing! You look like a nice guy: relaxed, brittish, humble and funny, but in fact you are a BEAST 😂😂!
Am really enjoying your videos! Greetings from The Netherlands 😀👍
Thanks for tuning in 😀
You both are pretty amazing, good job Pete and Pete!! 💫
😊
I could not do neither of the cycling or the clibing alone. Insane work man, you're a tough cookie
What about the climbing?😂😂
@@cheesecake6696 DEFINITELY a typo there
thanks mate
Fine effort. Inspirational. For the definitive off piste activity with lots of terrain, runniing and should be nice with climbing would be to line you guys out with some cyclocross. The definitive winter activity, always friendly locally for beginners. Looking forward to seeing you learn how to carry your bike one-handed professional style over one shoulder. I'm sure youtube will come up with your local CX (Cyclocross group), if not ping me.
Another challenge completed I loved this one & great job u killed it
Epic challenge! Interesting to see you using the Revo instead of the Silent Partner. I've not seen one used for trad self belay before.
I forgot my silent partner in norway… would have used it otherwise
@@WideBoyz I hope you can get it back, they are rare kit! I love my revo, I haven't led on it though.
Did you modify your Revo for a faster catch? I’ve been nervous to mess with mine.
@@WideBoyz ouch, I recall you saying how (pricey) hard to get hold of they are, nice videos mate
@@marcushill78 I have it back no worries. yes they are hard to get hold of and pricey these days for sure
great video, wish I could learn big wall climbing with you
Combination of cycling and climbing ❤️
There's a similar event in Finland called Kustavi Derby which is held on some summers. There you have to trad climb as many routes with your team in 24 hours as possible. You'll get a 0.1 coefficient per different crag you climb, as well as the difficulty grade. you need to walk or bike between crags. When it's finished you eat and bathe in sauna and sit by a fire. I've heard it's a great event. I hope to go someday.
unreal content! loved it
Niiiiice, enjoyed this 👌 bang on.
So many solos... take care!!!
But as usual, fun and amazing video
“…but on the surface he looks calm and ready” *sound of a bomb*
solid
Revo setup, love it !
I can only fantasize about who'd come up with the most incredible day trip idea including (free) soloing and biking/hiking: Pete meeting up with Alex H. in the US or Alex heading to the UK and having a day challenge with Pete 🤔?
Love to see that Frodo finally become a professional climber.
Would definitely have helped him in the past conquering mordors mountain borders.
Watching Pete climb then with his new bike a watch was like watching Flintstones meet the Jetsons 😂 great video.
Love the video and the Eminem ref in the intro ! 😁
I freakin love those kind of challenges !
Rope soloing a normal vertical route looked like a lot of work already. A traverse? Ooooof
If this video was an hour and a half long i woulda watched every second.
My hands just get sweaty watching you.x.x
This is peak human performance. Well done
lol had to laugh at the intro. Whenever me or my climbing partner get sketched out on a climb or barely make the top we say 'moms spaghetti!'
Oh baby we're back!
--> bush hahahahah thanks for the entertainment Pete!
Loved the soloing, didn't love the free soloing. I like you too much ;-)
Well done Pete
Me: [watching for the crack climbing because it looks so damn fun]
Also me: [noticing the British person deliberately *not* saying water bottle, but water vessel instead]
your bicycle saddle is for highway, not for dirt roads... the climbing is fantastic, thanx Peter!
Good stuff as always! How do you manage your hydration and electrolyte levels on such a challenge? I know for sure that I'd have muscle spasms after 10 hours of climbing and cycling and that's not good if you're climbing free solo :D
He drank his pee as all reasonable people do.😆
he is, as the kids say, "built different".
There was no particular plan for this, I just drunk plenty and went to the morrisons deli counter before setting off 😂The whole challenge was all very last minute so I didn't have time for much prep.
On other challenges in the past I've put those electrolyte things in my water though.
@@WideBoyz That's all the more amazing! @ThePcHelperdude I think you're right :D
I can't help but think you've been done over with the bike! A nice hardtail MTB would have made this a lot easier (and so much faster!).
more like this please
Interested in that revo solo setup. I've always wondered if they'd make a good solo device. Have you ever made a video about that setup?
He hasn't, but several other people have.
Hi Pete, I noticed you weren't using the Silent Partner. Was there a reason for it? Did you find using the Revo easier for traverses? Just curious on your thoughts. On another note, brilliant as usual!! Love your content.
Actually just forgot my silent partner, and this challenge was a very last minute decision 😅I would much prefer to use the SP
Hi Pete,
oh boy, u always keep up the heat 🤩
i just asked myself
WHY
WHY, not lemon cheesecake?
actually insane... my hands are soaked watching this
Britain is so nice, I have to go there for some trekking one day.
Scotland, Snowdonia, Lake District all very nice areas in the UK as well
Great adventure. We need to pair you up with a cyclist, dude. You’ve got Toby for parkour.
Pete at his beastly best
My local crag is circle of volcanic rock with circumference just over 1km and it is possible to be climbed relatively safely all around. Locals keep a ladder of best times. This is only reason why I climbed with sport watch. Last time I made a big move to nice large pocket just to find there a wasp nest. I shit you not one wasp got stuck under my watch and kept stinging. I fell around 1.5-2 meters and quickly removed the watch. Luckily I was just stung multiple times, but no real injury.
What came to my mind was if this would happen to anyone soloing really high that could be quite troublesome. I am certain that you would withstand a pain facing a deadly fall. But sensation at surprise would be quite unpleasant.
And yes we are soloing but most difficult traverses are just above the ground.
The only stat you were missing was an impact sensor on the bike seat so you could show how bad that day was for your arse. But glad it never hit the ground.
Great vid as ever.
Ps, could you have aid climbed the routes in a way that you wouldn't have to reclimb each pitch?
😂 why didn’t we think of that one!
I can confirm, that day was bad for my arse
@@WideBoyz .....title of your sex tape.
Pete, I understand the silent partner is the best choice. Would the Revo/traxion be your second choice?
There And Back And There Again: A Wide Boyz Tale
Crazy! wow.
That intro 👌
Hi! Just wondering did you make the decision to use a rope for the girdles because of the chossiness, increased exposure or difficulty of climbing? Interested seeing that you have free soloed big walls before
I mean limestone is a lot less reliable than grit for gear and rock strength, I wouldn't be eager to solo it
Fancy taking on a V5-V6 student? Would make great content 👌 plus I haven't been climbing in the peaks yet!
Pete desperately reaching for the candy, saying "i just, i just" sent me
Eh using the revo now! I like it
cant believe how much it looks like he has left in the tank after the final route
Pette, may I have a suggestion to You?
You should go and fly to USA to solo climb with Alex Honnold instead of Magnus. Maybe think about it, I think its going to be huge, for the channel, and I might be not only one WHO would like to see it.
PETE! ................................YOU......ARE....THE....MAN!!!
Eminem quote at the beginning got me 😂😂😂
That is genuinely a months worth of exercise for me
Seeing all this endurence solo crack stuff made me think that you wouldn't be bad as a partner for a speed record in yosemite...
Soloing right unconquerable is absolutely mental
Is that a cheeky fabric sticker on the phone case there Pete?
Taken straight off the camera and stuck on the back 😂
Scrap the hybrid and go for a full mountain bike next time. Get a sprung seat (soft and comfy seat too) and some front suspension, with medium tyres.
Trust me, those road sections won't suffer very much, but the off-road bits? Dude.
You'll be SO glad that you have thicker tyres and a bit of suspension!
It's always a trade off, but the road sections are better to trade away than those off road bits, which will sap your energy when you're on thin tyres and especially if you have no "give" with a solid frame like that. Sore bum territory. Hard on your calves. Hard on your arms... It's much better to trade road speed for good comfy off-road ability. Those off-road bits will take a lot more out of you than you expect.
If you're going to compromise, compromise more on the road sections than the offroad. Road is easy. A good mountain bike is a good thing on roads anyway.
Offroad is HELL with the wrong bike! Hell!
Hybrid is a fake category. Every bike is a trade-off.
Get some springs in there man! 😉
By using the revo are you hoping it will lock out if you fall on the rope solo?
That is correct. However it's not a solo device and I don't recommend using it for that. The length of fall seems to vary
Petes HURT right here
“How to burn 5600+ calories as a climber?” “Bike” lol
jokes aside this is epic, congratulations 🎉
Nice video - though, having climbed some of these routes (and dreamed of climbing the others), I felt strangely sad to see these grit/limestone mega-classics treated as joyless 'ticks'. I'm sure that wasn't the intention..maybe I'm just becoming a grumpy humbly Hector Mildew ;-)
don't worry they were all very joyful :D
Looks like you could use some bike lessons from Sam Pilgrim!
Beast 🦾
So how do you retrieve your rope after a rope solo traverse pitch?? Fix rope at found anchor, climb back while retrieving gear to previous anchor. Then... undoing previous anchor and swinging over in a huge dangerous choss-grating pendulum, and jumar up to the new anchor which you now hang off of? You also didn´t bring 6 ropes for 6 pitches, so... *wot* ?
Fix rope at new anchor. Climb back to previous anchor clipping all the pieces as you go. Retrieve the previous anchor and reclimb the pitch taking the gear out.
You can take the gear on the second lap, but you then need a fixed anchor and good rope management to lower out, or else you'd have to leave gear behind.
@@WideBoyz Clear and logical explanation: understood!
I thought the title was a joke, how are you alive O_O
Water vessel
What Garmin watch is that?
The Forerunner 45
My wife occasionally sees people and thinks they look like they would be a cool friend. Pete, I think you would be a fucking cool friend 😂
2:28 Car park was empty 😮
Revo gang
I really can't imagine climbing Alcasan as a rope solo. Does this equate to three times the quality or just three times more awful?!?
It's 3 times better rope soloing it, defintely. I recommend it 😀
@@WideBoyz I'll add it to the list 😐🤨😬
You guys should Collab with somebody who races bikes
Lil’ Alex honold
great video, but get a mountain bike next time, that would be real fun!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great edit Pete. And thanks for the support on the day. Ledge 💪
@@WideBoyz one of the best days yet. Aside from this last weekend of course!
@@sessionmediaa well this has us excited what you are referring to 😉
@@flowrida1138 yeh, some big vids coming
Hard effort but perhaps not quite so many calories? A stanford study found that "Fitness trackers accurately measure heart rate but not calories burned" and they all overestimate!
Watch jamming 👍👍
This was impressive but i ate a whole large pizza whilst i watched.
Please do a Collab with gmbn or something
When dose the red bull video get published
in the next month(ish). depending on other releases
Hybrid?! That’s not a hybrid! That’s a gravel bike at the very best! Get yourself a decent hardtail (vitus or nukeproof?) and you’d enjoy it so much more!
