The biggest cultural difference is Northern Indiana residents seem to look up to Michigan and over to illinois and Ohio, whereas southern Indiana residents seem to look down more towards Kentucky and even Tennessee.
Really? I’m from East Central Indiana. What college did you go to? Also being a resident of here, I think I speak a pretty standard Midwest dialect here as well as most people I know, except for the especially country people.
Kind of like East vs West Texas in a way. The east is much more urban. While the west is much more rural and similar to lots of Texas stereotypes. Was an interesting culture shock when I moved from Houston to study at Texas Tech.
@@king_supreme1102 Ball state university, and yeah it was definitely thr older folks that spoke with that southern draw, but even people closer to my age, i could hear the influence in their voices.

Considering everyone from Illinois is moving to Indiana hard to go with Illinois but I love Chicago. Chicago is a great city even though politicians have done everything in their power to try to ruin it.
IL is a shitstain on Earth, so no wonder why people want to move out. If depression incarnate crystallized into a landmass, it wouldn't be anything new since that already happened with IL.

If you go to his about page he was a history teacher from a great school district named “blue valley” schools in Kansas. I went there it was awesome.
Illinois and Indiana equally suck. But when in Indiana, Illinois sucks 20 percent less.
Wait, that math doesn't quite add up.
@@iammrbeat Illinois perspective 👌
For Illinoisans it is considered annoying to be in Indiana just because it "The Crossroads of America". Driving through it is merely really frustrating.
I love how you go into the earlier history of states when doing these comparison videos. It's interesting to learn about the tribes who resided on the land before whites came to colonize. I'll have to visit Cahokia!
This is embarrassing for me to say, but I have yet to visit Cahokia. I hear it's amazing, though.
Fort Wayne is founded atop Kekionga, which was another highly influential Native American city. Not anywhere near as big as Cahokia, but still super interesting.
Lived in Illinois from when I was born in 1952 till 2015 when we moved to Indiana. Now living right across the Ohio River from Louisville. We love it here.

That "random tree" growing out of a clocktower is in Greensburg, Indiana if anyone wanted to know. From what I heard, it was probably just a lucky seed that wound up there and started to take root and grow. People seemed to like it, so no one cut it down.
The tree died several years ago, so the people of Greensburg paid to replace it with a large plastic tree to appear the same.

It's crazy that Illinois votes Democratic at a rate 30% higher than Indiana when, in reality, they aren't that much different
The reason: Chicago
Yeah, Chicago is all the difference. Northwest Indiana leans left, too.
Mr. Beat I mean, not all the difference. Some of the smaller cities like Champaign and Peoria vote left. In the primaries Champaign votes more left than Chicago. Evansville, the 3rd largest city in Indiana, votes Republican.
raney150 you’re right. I live in Champaign and I think I can attest that people here are generally more left-leaning than our neighboring counties. And we’re also the only county in the state that voted for Bernie in the Illinois primary.

Let’s go Indy! That’s where I live!
Indy is such an underrated place to live. It's big enough to have all the big city stuff one would want. But also has enough small towns for a slower pace of life if that's up your alley.
Meeeee toooo. We rock.
All the big city stuff. Cept resorts, rollercoaster parks, good bar arcades, a diverse dating pool, Broadway and theatre plays, etc.
I live in Marion lol
This place is empty stop the cap
Im from SW Illinois (outside St Louis) and there are a few important things to mention about Illinois. 1. Most people in the southern half are Cardinals fans as opposed to Cubs/White Sox. 2. The Metro East of St Louis is the second biggest METROPOLITAN area in IL but is often overshadowed by Chicago. 3. People in the Chicago metro area tend to look down on the rest of the state.
Southern half are.. Cardinals fans?! Aw gee Illinois thanks a lot love you all from arizona
3:08 Mr. Beat, you're starting to sound Missouri French (a dialect of French spoken in the Saint Louis Metro) there.
I live in Illinois and I didn’t know half of this I thought we were just nothing besides from Chicago

Most videos get it wrong, and thing everyone started north, and slowly progressed south, instead of S. to N. Great video!
For me, the best parts of Indiana aren't mentioned here: the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indiana University Basketball, and the beauty of Southern Indiana, specifically Brown County and the surrounding area. But I'm a homer, so there's that.
It is very beautiful in the south of Indiana, but you have a lottttt of racists who live in that region who made my ex who was black feel very unsafe by giving her death stares for being with me a white man. Of course not everyone is like this but even near Brown County some white men tried to Lynch a black man not that long ago in the woods.
I moved out to Illinois from NH for work and just outside the town I'm in is farmland for miles upon miles. Crazy difference from my home state!
I lived in LA but then moved to southern Illinois and thought it was crazy, too. I moved out of there 2 years ago

As someone with family on both sides of the border, it's crazy how many have moved from Illinois to Indiana just the last few years. Of course, they just want to live in Lake County since they still have jobs in Chicago. We just feel so disconnected from the rest of the state (Indiana) down south.
Not entirely true...The Indianapolis metro is fast growing and the #1 origin of new Indy area residents are from Illinois particularly Chicago
What we all need to remember is there are great people in both states. Very educational and entertaining.

Michigan's upper Peninsula with the lower mit .
Honestly that should just be it’s own state
Did you guys know that the Upper Peninsula is home to just 3% of Michigan’s total population?
You know what, Michigan already has almost double Wisconsin’s population anyway, maybe Wisconsin should just have the upper peninsula. 🤷♂️
Yeah, I love this idea.
Ooo good one
Mr. Beat would you consider comparing Massachusetts and Connecticut?
Absolutely
I am originally from Illinois and I am quite glad that I left. The laws and taxes are absurd and overreaching because of Chicago, and unless you live in Chicagoland they don't really make sense. In my experience Illinois' roads are either littered with potholes or under construction (mostly because of the climate). The video is accurate about the political corruption, we have an embarrassing amount of governors who have been imprisoned for abusing their power in office. The cost of living in central/southern Illinois is DIRT cheap because of all that nonsense, so if you are willing to deal with Chicago's overbearing influence, busted roads, and wondering where your tax dollars are going in turn for cheap living, Illinois might be the place for you!
Informative video, I enjoyed seeing the comparison 👍
