Hi Jaclyn. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad). I'm pretty new to your channel and I'm a fellow artist and hiker. Besides all the Art Kit for Plein Air and all the stuff you take on your one day hikes (I sometimes go hiking for several days at a time, sleeping outdoors), I wanted to share with you a piece of equipment that I believe is really important and it's inexpensive and extremely lightweight, but it has served me on some occasions very well and it might save your life. I don't recall the technical name for it or brand (since I live in Europe brands won't be applicable to you in the U.S.), but it's those thin aluminum large sheets that sometimes are used in accidents to cover a victim... They are extremely good to maintaining body heat and can save a hickers life in an emergency from frost bite or worse. I've had to use them on an emergency while hiking up in the mountains and they helped keep me warm, even though I was well equipped at the time (clothing and all). And another thing I also recommend is a means to be able to make a fire somehow (flint tool, matches, etc - more than one tool is always better). It's just little things that might make a big difference in case of need. Good luck on your hikes and plein air paintings. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎
Hi Jim! Thank you for the comment and sharing with me. I appreciate it! There is definitely more you should carry for hiking safety (like the 10 essentials) that I don’t talk a lot about as an art channel. Maybe I can do a whole separate video for that sometime! I think you’re referring to an emergency blanket. Definitely a good idea to have. Thank you!
Aww, thank you so much! I had to redo this video twice! lol. The first one I did near my house and there were too many planes and car noises, so I decided to redo it on our camping trip where the only noises were cute birdies. :)
Nice! I just looked up the Bellroy lite sling and it’s very pretty! I like the minimal design of it and the color choices!! Thanks for sharing! Haha and yes, a chair is a nice upgrade 😝
We live at a prairie/wetlands FP here in Illinois. I'm trying my hand at getting out and drawing/painting around our vast array of park. I'm going to try and get up with my husband who does a morning hike and I want to paint the sunrise while he's doing his less-than-hour hike up and down hills. So, I'm new at this, happy to find other who get out there and do this. Thanks for sharing!
Lorelei! I love this idea so much! Yes, getting out with your husband while he does his thing is a great way to get outdoors together. My husband loves to fish so I started going to the river with him and setting up to paint and I love it so much! He likes to go early in the morning too, so it's nice to wake up with the sun. I hope you have a wonderful time! You could always message me on Instagram photos of your paintings if you want! :)
Got out there this morning, and I had to hike all the way up to the top of the hill (my husband beat me--he does the hills 3 times, and can do it in less than 50 min now), and I drew the rising red sun--TWICE!
@@LoreleiBell-n6m This is wonderful!! Oh it makes my heart happy knowing you woke up and captured the sunrise twice in your drawings!! Wohoo!! haha, and yes, my husband usually beats me to the top of things too.
Catching up on your videos… and i just want to say, how beautiful you are and lovely your personality is!!! ☺️ alsoooo. I always wear a hat to protect! Especially in my 40s became very aware. Wish id started young! And ppl forget about hands!!! And i can see the age on mine!!! Plus im an avid hand washer doesnt help. Ha
Oh my goodness thank you! That is so kind ☺️ And yes, must protect the skin! I’m in my 30s and thankful I always protected my skin - but definitely needing to protect my hands in this sunny Colorado weather! Lol
The chair is very helpful to have and feel comfortable while sitting for long hours painting. It’s pretty easy to put together and take apart especially when backpacking!
I do always sit! I'll have to do a draw with me on location so you can see my setup all put together. :) I used to always do a sit pad, so upgrading to a chair has been amazing and means I can sit for longer. I mean, I do get up and stretch, but for painting I like to sit!

Lovely set up. Very organized.
Thank you! I’ve learned to be organized while out on the trail - lost too many things lol!
Thanks for sharing. I use a Bellroy lite sling for my art stuff and a traveler's notebook to paint in. Might have to get a chair

Thanks for sharing this!! That chair looks so helpful to have! Do you find it hard to put together? Or is it pretty easy?

Would love to see your actual setup. I did see your minimal art kit, but I mean do you always sit down and sketch?
