Finally got to see this in theaters last night. I definitely agree that it dropped the ball at the end. For a movie that seemed to enjoy trickle feeding the audience information the huge exposition dump at the end was jarring. I otherwise had a pretty good time with it.
Does it live up the hype? No. Is it still a great movie in my opinion? Yep. For me I was satisfied with how the last third panned out, but i can agree that the first 2/3 of the movie was more satisfying. What a year for horror 2024 is turning out to be!
It’s definitely not the best. Not great, but good. Storytelling could have been a lot better but the amazing tension that were created in some good scenes were ended by prolonged unnecessary dialogue/imagery. I felt like the plot could have been a lot better and not be so cliche. I gave it 3/5.
Its a sort of cinematic inverse of Silence of the Lambs. We get the lead's trauma front and center instead of as a late-movie reveal. We start the super-genius killer free and he becomes imprisoned and even dies during the film, the opposite of Lector. It begins, rather than ends, with the heroine single-handedly taking down a killer in their own house. The main villain is focused on societal rather than personal transformation. Etc. Etc.
