If I could turn back time when I called my PCP 15 years ago and told him I couldn’t cope that instead of putting me on an anti depressant but Put me on HRT. I didn’t know and I trusted my doctor. It was Peri-menopause now it all makes sense. Great video/podcast. You ladies are forever changing lives !! ❤Thank you

My sister just had her first baby and I could not help but be envious of the extremely great care she received from the healthcare system during her pregnancy, birth, and post-birth compared to the care I have not received for the 6 years of horrendous perimenopause I have endured, from the same system.

What an amazing podcast full of perimenopause education! So relatable to me as a 50yr old in perimenopause who has had to basically research on my own to figure out what
HRT would benefit me. My OB/GYN has been very helpful but she doesn't have the breadth of knowledge to fully support my specific situation. Thanks, ladies, for all your efforts to educate and support us!

Thank you SO much for this video!!! I am 46yo in perimenopause still having periods albeit not consistently (every 6-8 weeks). My naturopath looked at my blood test, which says I am in estrogen dominance 29 times estrogen-progesterone. My doctor prescribed to me estradiol gel & progesterone 10mg each for hot flashes, brain fog, EXTREME fatigue... but after 2 weeks my breasts got so sore and I hated that. So after tonnes of my own research I decided JUST to do progesterone 10mg per night and no more hot sweats or sore breasts. I asked for testerone for the extreme fatigue and brain fog out but my doctor refuses to prescribe it. My diet - getting enough protein and even adding creatine, exercise, sleep, low stress meditation routine, adrenals, iron and thyroid are all good but I am still so exhausted. (I have an alarm on my phone at 8pm each night to start my bedtime routine! I will keep working on my doc to prescribe testosterone here in Canada... I feel like it is worth a try for the extreme fatigue?

Please try and get Felice Gersh. She talks about cyclical HRT. Creating a similar body cycle to the one you had before menopause (bringing on an actual bleed every month). Keeping the estrogen receptors functioning at optimal level. She is a very knowledgeable woman.

I am so very grateful for the D.O. I went to see for back pain that asked me why I was on an anti-depressant. I told her it was for PMS! She told me she was going to test my progesterone and came back and said you are taking an antidepressant for a progesterone deficiency. I can get you off of it and she did! I was barely 40 at the time. It changed my life! I wasn’t yelling at my kids anymore! It was the sustained release compounded version. That was well over 15 years ago! And I do not have a uterus btw! I have no intention of stopping it. I’m on all three hormones now but natural progesterone has always been my BOO!

I was also prescribed an antidepressant for severe PMS! It did get rid of my PMS and back pain…
However, looking back, I wonder if other things were going on.
I chose to have an abortion. It was not a casual decision, but it was definitely the right one.
Afterward, I had intense uncontrollable crying that
      felt “beyond” my emotions.
I finally took zoloft and it stopped.
I've always wondered if the intense crying was hormonal.

I just listened to this episode and can’t thank you enough! Your talk on progesterone has been so eye opening!
I’m 41, in perimenopause and had a hysterectomy at 39 with one ovary left. I’m still experiencing many perimenopause symptoms and feeling crazy despite being on an estrogen patch and on topical testosterone. My menopause specialist doctor insisted that progesterone does not serve any purpose for someone like me because I no longer have a uterus, yet every month and a half or so I would start feeling crazy, my breasts would get painful, terrible sleep, etc. the loop cycle sucks! I’m experiencing one of these spells now and I can’t get in to see my gynecologist until mid October! Your talk gave me hope that I’m not being unreasonable and I’m gonna keep pushing to get answers.
    Thank you so much!

I’m in a similar boat (hysterectomy in mid 30’s, one ovary). I’m just starting MHT, but I’m not going to take progesterone for now. Your experience makes me wonder if I should. I just know that I’ve always gotten extremely low and depressive emotions during my luteal phase when progesterone was higher. Thought I’d see if I can manage my symptoms with estrogen and testosterone for now. The process of advocating for ourselves is arduous….but don’t lose hope. I hope you get relief soon!

Great conversation.. my one question …..is being 48 and I am on estrogen patch, progesterone and testosterone and feel so so so so much better …BUT I would say in the time since starting HRT I have put on 15-20 lbs. Exercising but not cortisol crazy type, eating healthy but not true keto and not crazy intermittent fasting.. but still can’t drop a pound!
Just curious as to reason .. still some imbalance between the hormones ? I know they keep saying HRT helps lose weight but not for everyone.

Ever since I started on HRT I've been thinking that progesterone does so much more than just protect the endometrial lining. The sleep effect alone is so profound, but I have had to really dig to find information about it so this is extremely helpful.

The comment about perimenopausal women not really needing estrogen yet was odd to me. I've been using the estradiol gel for 2 months now, and I feel so much better! More energy, no migraines, less joint and muscle aches! There are some days that it feels like too high a dose, and others too low, but most days it feels really good. I'm going to ask about trying Evamist at my next appointment so I have more control over dosing. Also, I did try to cycle prometrium, but my anxiety and sleep were terrible on the off weeks, so I take it every day now. I'm struggling to find someone that will prescribe testosterone, but I'll keep trying.

Keep fighting for a testosterone prescription for 10 months now ( I was told my blood levels were normal but I had to find out that they did not Test my free Testosteron which is very low...) Most doctor's here have no clue and I have to teach them 🤷🏻‍♀️. It's a crying shame but most people don't care, as it only affects "old women"...

It is never too late to resume taking HRT. You would just need to start on a very low dose, and slowly gradually increase. Dr Louise Newson (menopause specialist in the UK) mentioned that she has a patient who, on her 90th birthday, decided that her birthday present, to herself, would be to start on HRT, and Dr Newson was happy to prescribe it for her. Also, in the USA, Dr Robert Mathis MD has successfully started women, in their 80s, on HRT. All best wishes :)

This was me. In late peri, doc prescribed me estradiol patch, 100mg Prometrium, and testosterone. Two weeks into starting and I had a period. I could feel my estrogen rise and knew that if I put a patch on it would be too much. So now it’s been a few days without the patch and just doing the other 2. My question is, can one just apply the patch when you feel your estrogen drop? I can feel when I am low. Peri has its challenges for sure.

    • @chercuts

Actually, my Mother WAS on HRT for over 20 years after her second redone bladder sling surgery but stupid WHI made her gyn take her off 'the patch' that I always knew it as. Would a progesterone cream or topical be better? I need to talk to my provider but it’s the weekend and I’ve been miserable so I was thinking of stopping the progesterone until I can get this figured out. I heard you could buy the topical creams over the counter but I’m just not sure what to do. 😞

You two are the best! So helpful. Do you have data or a study or a guideline that talks about using progesterone in menopause in women without a uterus? My profession requires that for me to prescribe. What about use of the progesterone SR in peri or post menopause. I use it myself in perimenopause and have found it so helpful to overcome the intolerance with the higher dose capsules. And do we know the half life of progesterone SR. I cannot find it.

Is it possible that starting testosterone in perimenopause is enough? Testosterone can aromatize into estrogen and progesterone, right? I started progesterone about a year ago and recently began a low dose testosterone cream. Now I'm having some high progesterone side effects, and I think I need to lower my dose. 38F on 200mg nightly. Symptoms are primarily fluid retention, quite severe, to where I can't move my fingers in the morning, sore breats, and my feet feel like bricks. It just occurred to me maybe I need to lower progesterone now.
