RIP Kirstie. taking over for shelly long was no easy feat and she did it with style, poise and her own brand of humor. cheers has gone down as one of the greatest sitcoms in televison history and Kirstie certainly helped with that. God bless
Norm was the first of the gang that Rebecca made a warm connection to after she pulled the plug on his bar tab and had him paint the office to pay it off. They had a bonding moment in the office, she was in crisis over her crush Evan Drake, and he understood she wasn't cold and aloof like she had presented herself while being a Boss Lady. He was like a big teddy bear with her.
0:57 -- "'Foray' into painting." "AAAA" so the business would be at the beginning of the Yellow Pages section. Got them a lot of calls for the Auto Club.
When Rebecca first came onto the show the writers presented her as cold and stoic and professional, completely opposite of the gang. But it didn't take long for her crazy neurotic side to come out and this bar and these people were actually her tribe. That's what made the show work imo. The writers actually studied Kirstie on set and picked up on her personality like her kluztiness, how she easily cried whether happy or sad, how she could do physical stunts like fainting straight to the floor or jumping over the bar. And let's not forget what she could do with a cigarette. It was Kirstie being Kirstie that helped make Rebecca such a zany character and it was brilliant that the writers took note of what they had in front of them in Kirstie Alley.
This would be better if you allowed time to process joke and laugh before jumping to next scene. The audience laughter is part of the humor. That's why "Cheers was filmed before a live studio audience" 😉
These clips are not nearly as funny as during the Diane days. Unless an episode or a scene was about Frasier and Lilith, the writers seemed stumped as to what to do with these characters. I hate to say it but Sam got boring as hell.
This is an underrated friendship

On my most recent rewatch I was like “is Norm kinda Rebecca’s best friend?” And after watching this all together like that I’d say so lol
I adored their friendship.
RIP Kirstie
they did have a good rapport
RIP the amazing Kirstie Alley who played the character Shelley Long in the eighties US sitcom "Cheers!"
R.I.P Rebecca Howe
“I’ll leave, I find that people like to be alone when they’re upset.”
“No that’s okay Norm you can stay.”
“I was talking about me.”
