I always felt like the cultural was a very hit or miss era. On one hand education and industry dramatically increased around this era, and not to mention the plays that I produced...I don’t care who you are The East is Red is fucking awesome as a musical. However on the other, it also saw the destruction of many historical artifacts were destroyed, People’s admira for Mao became disturbingly sycophantic (IMO), and the Red Guards were pretty fuckin useless. At least that’s how I remember it. However I do not like calling it “the 10 wasted years” if I recall correctly it was mostly the 1st few years or so that were really hectic
