Hey guys!! I really hope you like this video, it's both cute and also very cringe to go back and watch my teenage progression hahaha
more content on patreon ❣:: www.patreon.com/sophieburrell
p.s. I don’t have telegram & you haven’t won a guitar from me unfortunately haha, report any fake telegram or phishing accounts as soon as you see them!
I'd like jamming to you cause ya are very good as guitar
Hi Sophie. Love you playing. Really...amaaaazing. I have a channel too but it gets very few views. What am I doing wrong? My shorts are getting views but my main ones aren't? Should I put 'location' as US? Any other tips I need to adhere to (I make good content- check it out - and use keywords and appealing thumbnails yet only get between 20 and 100 views)
🖤
Simply brilliant Sophie. Thanks for sharing 💯
I really like how honest you are with your early playing and opened yourself up to making this. Wonderful work!
Sophie u are such an amazing guitarist -always good to look back and critique earlier works just to see how far you’ve come.
If you've ever watched Eddie Van Halen play guitar he was always smiling. You could tell he loved playing guitar. so weather your smiling or not when you play never let anyone criticise you for how you feel when you play.
This video is so different from your usual stuff but I loved it! It was so interesting and inspiring to see your progress with guitar. I'd totally love to see more videos like this. I also learned a lot from this video and will definitely note your tips about vibratos and looking out for the small details while playing guitar.
I love you and your channel, you're such an inspiration to me so thank you and keep doing what you're doing! :D
Would love to see and hear more of Little Sophie's teenage angst!
Thanx for being transparent with your progress. Enjoy your videos. Best wishes.😃
Absolutely loved this Sophie.
So interesting to see all your phases. And what techniques were important to you at the time
Like when you were 16/17 and shredding was paramount.
Definitely good to look back to check your progress particularly when you think the improvements aren’t happening fast enough. That’s me 💯
Thanks so much for all your inspiration you have changed my guitar journey for every .
Practicing every spare moment I get
🎸👍👍😎💯❤️
Hey Sophie I really liked that video and you are where you are now I wish you could make another video like the nothing eles matters one
Love all the talk about vibrato. It's like a fingerprint, unique to every player.
Very true
This whole musician growing up on youtube is blowing my mind. First it was jaaaa with her ukulele, then Jake with *his* ukulele, oh and that Canadian guy with the headphones and the head of hair, then Laura Cox, and now Sophie. Sophie is super talented and introspective too. Its going to be great fun watching her take on the music.
Excellent conclusion. The importance of vibrato & the most efficient way to achieve a signature sound is paramount for a mature professional.
I know guitar is your main gig but you're a fashion icon as well. I really like your eye makeup and your hair is so pretty 🤩 Thank you for the high quality content, Sophie!
Love your channel. Really enjoy the history as well.
I agree with what you said about vibrato seeming like a bit of fill. The way I see it, when you're learning a new piece the focus is getting all the frets played at the right time, vibrato is the flair that gets added after you learn all the notes. I'm not the most accomplished player by any means, but I noticed when I learned to play Alice Cooper's poison that adding the flair and nuance of subtle vibrato that it seemed like a challenge having the time to fit in the moment it took to linger enough for a little vibrato when my mind was focused on getting the next note in time. I found it helped to play the song faster than normal so when I played it normal speed, which isn't that fast really, it felt relaxed enough that I felt like I had more time for the subtlety of a little vibrato. I wasn't expecting 16 yr old you to be as good as it was,, but it was pretty high level. I'll never be that good lol
Good point about the smiling. I think the grump look is just super focus on not messing up. I do it too and I notice I'm better at improv when standing and moving my feet
Thanks Sophie…for sharing your life’s journey….Love your interpretations …..and wish you many more interesting journeys….💕Alex🇬🇷
Well your younger you still played guitar better than me. I have been at it for 40 years and you teach me stuff everytime. Keep it up and keep rockin'.
That vibrato technique is an instant life changer
And yes absolutely going back and looking at your teenage years I would love to have that you keep those safe in your vault memories are just beautiful to see how you've grown
What an interesting video Sophie. You can definately see your progression and your own understanding of it in this video. It shows that you must always keep pushing yourself and evolving your technique. At 60 years old im having to evolve yet again to deal with arthritis and tendonitis in my hands. The old expression,"No pain, no gain", is unfortunately a reality in my case. I found your tip on playing controlled vibrato excellent and spot on. On a final note, look up Eric Johnson playing Cliffs of Dover in Dallas for Eric Claptons Crossroads festival. I think you would really dig watching him play it live.
I've been learning guitar recently and came across your Blackbird cover a while ago (I also love Mark Tremonti! lol), I love that you are not afraid to show when you struggle to learn something new (like the polyphia video recently) despite being such an excellent player!
Also thank you very much for the tip on vibrato as I feel I have been making the same mistake of trying to use my first finger rather than my whole hand for and it never sounds right, I will definitely practice the way you described in this.
Thank you! and keep up the great work \m/
At the point you recognize an issue you have overcome, you have earned the ability to teach that lesson. I think a lot of people fail to recognize that, sometimes.
I'd love to see you write your own songs. I don't know if you do that as often as play covers, but primarily playing your own songs rather than replicating someone else's is what separates good musicians from great musicians. That being said, great musicians who develop their own flavor to work into covers can be great too. Simply recreating songs in a verbatim style is only a learning tool at best, in my opinion.
Keep it up!
Looking back at what I've have done the most work on, it was definitely vibrato. It felt forced and inconsistent for years, especially with bends. Listening to myself was like looking at an old photo of yourself at an awkward age. Since I'm not practicing as regularly as I'd Iike, progression as far as technique and accuracy has been slow. But I've been focusing more on feel and especially vibrato, just to get comfortable with myself and my sound. I find that that has helped inspire me to play more.
Thanks for the vid Sophie! It's great that these days we have the tech to be able to easily record yourself, visually and audibly so we can self-critique and work on the flaws.
For sure you have been talented as young Sophie and you progress have been absolutly phanomenal, which makes you a real professional now a days. So imagine youself in an other 10 years....go on Sophie you are just a super great musician.
you have always been so skilled
My guitar teacher would always say about vibrato. " There's a fine line between a soulful bend and a angry bee sound.
She is an amazingly talented and prodigious musician. I can't quite point it, but there is something that tells you that this musician REALLY knows her stuff.
Incredible video SOPHIE. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible night. Much love. Hugs
Easy to rewatch when you were absolutely killing it back then too lol
So much fun traveling back with you, watching you react to your earlier playing. Very honest introspective, sometimes cringy, even a little embarrassing, but very cute. Well done as always, rock on Sophie 🤘
Damn this channel is growing I'm glad people are appreciating whatever she is doing.
Love looking back and seeing how much we’ve improved over the years.
You are pretty and I like the way you play the Guitar.
Thank you. Keep on inspiring
LOVE YOU!!!!! ❤❤❤💕
I'm an introvert but I have a dream to become a musician. And I would like to take courage for recording my own guitar progress to inspire other people.
BTW, one of your IG followers and adore your guitar skills and style, Sophie. 🖤
Just hearing yourself play after recording was a massive improvement to my playing
You still rocked back then 🤘🤘
This is cool - reviewing your own videos.. Good concept
Interesting video and good advice!
I wish you would do some Robin Trower......fast playing...it all runs together.
You are an amazing guitarist.
Great video yes that's just absolutely part of getting better practice practice and yes paying attention to detail I mean listen to you now rock on
First of all you are a girl with a lot of personality and charisma, then from the way you play you immediately understand that you have studied and you will still study a lot to improve more and more. Finally, your enthusiasm that you transmit in playing, I find it so contagious that even a chair would like to learn to play 😄😄😄.
Sophie, continue to be and always remain this way.
I look forward to the next reaction video ten years from now.
Wow! Kelly Leak is good at baseball and the guitar!
You can tell a LOT about a guitarist from their vibrato. I've been playing for years and I can say that my vibrato is kind of my progress tracker. It keeps improving every year, you get more control of it, you get more comfortable with and you improve in choosing which type/style of vibrato is best suited for a certain phrase in a lick
I think your version of Anastasia is, I would say, better than the slash version. without detracting from the friend of the hat of course. But the truth is that I love that version. Kisses from Buenos Aires
You have developed a lot in a year!
This vídeo show us how you development your guitar tecnique and more 🖤🎸🤘
So I'm not much of a guitar player but one thing I noticed about your left hand is that you seem to have very organic thumb placements. I see lots of extremely fast players nowadays that seem to plant their thumb in the center of the neck and let their fingers do all the moving. I'm sure it's the right approach to plant your thumb if you're looking for speed but I actually think there is tonal difference when you allow the whole hand to work together. I'm thinking of players like billy gibbons and how he holds the neck and the amazing tone he has.
Do you also compose in other modes like Dorian or Mixolydian?
What’s so wild is 8 years from now when you remake this & critique current sophie’s videos you won’t have anything much to say 😂✨
Comon, Sophie... u r amazing guitarist!!
I like your chanel, and i think your guitar skill is very good sophie..👍
Your hair is awesome
Your younger version is also better than my actual me hahaha
How does Tony Iommi get that very sound from is guitar. Also what brand & model of guitar does he use
Love the video! Seems like the self tanning left an impression on your hands! I've been there lol......
Why have you and Rabea Massaad not done a colab yet? It would be frickin sweet, both have great and unique sounds and similarly wild hair!
I notice your attention to detail is close to spot on today earlier when i was butting in to your tic-toc play there were some tough finger board riffs you were making them perfect ! Sorry if i butted in on you didn't mean too!
I agree, vibrato is a huge deal. Personally, I don't aim to be perfectly accurate in what I play but I'm only self taught and am intent on keeping my guitar playing fun and to my own standards. However, I pride myself on having excellent vibrato control and feel which seems to be a huge difficulty for most people starting out. I try to share examples to my friends so they can see my posture and the posture of other guitar players who use big expressive bends and vibratos.
On the other hand, I really struggle with shredding technique and deciphering shred modes by ear. It doesn't bother me much, though, because I don't enjoy shredding unless it's used very sparingly. Shredding seems to be the McSolo happy meal for a lot of people and I just think fiddly fiddly fiddly twang is painfully overused
Just spotes the 5150 in the background!! How are you liking it?
Watching this video makes me want to learn how to play a guitar.
I Love the way you playing And be so calm And comfortable with your guitar for this age! I was surprised so keep going the good Job that you're doing And entertain us!And I don't want to forget the last video was amazing And also very funny !!cheers from Greece
Perhaps use a tremolo bar for vibrato
Don't worry about what people say you should look like while you play, lol. You can't please everybody, you might as well do what feels right to you 👍🏽
Hi Sophie!! Great girl!!!
Would like to hear you play megadeth - hanger 18 👍
Love ❤️😘❤️💕💕❤️😘😘💖💖😘😘😘💖💖💟💞❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘💖😘😘😘😘😘💖💖💟💞❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
cool video of ur history thru playing guitar….
It's only rock & roll but I like it...
You are perhaps being too hard on yourself, I think the solo from Get the funk out was almost perfect. Love your playing, keep it up!
I tried to be like you when I was your age, but I can't seem to learn how to play the guitar, I quit, and I try again over and over it's an endless cycle mate. Do you get me?
What do you think about someone like Brandon Ellis's vibrato!?
I never got the vibrato technique right in fifty plus years of playing/ practicing. I'm on a nylon string guitar now and it's hugely hard to do strong and controlled vibratos. Time to buy an electric with slinky's and get this right by golly.
Hello... I always enjoy your videos. God bless. 🤙✌️😉
You so young and so incredibly talented and dangerously beautiful. You certainly have a very exciting future my advice would be listened to your peers don't worry too much about romantic relationships at the moment. But concentrate in being a musician and finding your creativity look to the spiritual places and the deeper you as well as the outer you. Do not be afraid of your self set your self free.
I love your eyes 💕
what's the song at 5:47? it sounds so familiar
Thanks!
Thank you so much Tyler!! 🖤🤘🏻
We would be very happy to see Sophie plays acoustic fingerstyle also. Electric guitar are overplayed.
11:38 to 12:30 is a great lesson on vibrato. Take notes ya'll!
Beautyfull ❤️
Feel and detail are at opposite ends of the spectrum, unless you want to have another players feel, which is rather impossible. You can mess up your mind pretty bad trying to copy exactly and still have the original feel in the piece. If you want emotion in your playing it can't be exactly like someone else.
Really cool video! Great great idea.
Would those ear buds be good enough to workout in? ease play Rock Bottom by UFO, try it you'll like it :-) I play my vibrato like BB King, just shake that hand.
Yeah they’re also designed for that!
I've never trusted people who smile constantly because I'm not from the U.S. (or any other country where people are expected to be constantly smiling). Maybe it's a "me" problem but I like to have a clearer idea of when people are being genuine and you've always seemed that to me!
Honestly Sophie for me it's hard to concentrate on your guitar playing because you're so beautiful
I’m sure she never heard that one before.
@@fireadept007 your opinion is meaningless
@@CedarMountainsnow thank you
