Why on Earth do Fionna and Cake EXIST?! As far as we knew they were just the Ice King’s fanfiction, a knockoff of Finn and Jake. But then the show slowly built up the idea that Fionna and Cake could be real, somewhere out in the multiverse! And now this week’s batch of Fionna and Cake episodes wrap up what I consider to be the prologue for this series, finally kicking off their adventures around the Adventure Time multiverse! And in the process we finally have the TRUE origin story for Fionna and Cake’s universe through Prismo, and an explanation for why their world has become so boring and bland. Not only do I wanna talk about this origin story, but I also wanna breakdown what it means on a metatextual level! Because I truly think this origin story ties into one of the messages this show has for its adult audience.

You know it’s weird that we’re getting 3 Multiverse stories centered on anomalies being hunted down by an authoritarian figure the same year, months apart
I Mean Hey; What's Wrong with wanting to see Multiverse stories with Different Versions of Beloved Characters Interacting with one another & exploring what's different about each universe
Spider-Man and Adventure Time, what's the third one?
@@caron27Loki
No
@@caron27Yeah, what's the third?
Honestly, realizing the fanfiction universe you created while you were insane was actually a bootleg reality mounted right into your dome piece would be enough to destroy what little sense of normalcy anyone has left. And that doesn't even account for all the things Simon has seen in the aftermath of the great Mushroom War.
Scarab isn't a multiverse enforcer, he's a god auditor, he captures rogue gods and dieties that have abandoned their duties and deals with the situations that stem from their negligence. He hates that prismo was chosen to be the wishmaster and so he's super resentful of him, hence why he's wanting to chace down Fiona and cake. He wants the proof of prismo's rule breaking so he can try and take his place
Ok, but what if Simon does become magical again, but instead of becoming the ice king, he keeps his psyche and is more like Ice prince from Fionna's dream! I mean Fionna did call him ice prince when she first met him in person
When they wanted to make a protagonist relatable to young audiences, they made a kid who lives in a crazy world who eagerly goes adventuring hoping to find monsters to slay. 13 years later when they wanted to make a protagonist relatable to older audiences, they made an adult who doesn't know what they're doing in a world that is mundane and disappointing. Fin worried that he wouldn't get to kiss a princess, Fionna worried that her cat would die because her boss was an unsympathetic jerk.
Thinking about what this says about our world depressed me.
But then you have post ice king Simon, relatable to even older generations yearning for a simpler time feeling out of place and out of touch in the modern Era.
My interpretation for now is that prismo created them as 1 dimentional characters ( she never had problems with skirts in his stories) but after being left untouched (without being written by prismo, who has no idea how it feels to be human) inside simon's 'normal' human head for 12 years, they eventually developed their own humanity! She's a real human woman now and she has the awareness to feel unconfortable in the skirt for example.
ALSO, something that intriged me was remembering the fionna and cake episodes with this new context... WHERE the fuck did those scenes with self insert ice king where fionna says she wants to marry him come from?? My theories are:
- Ice king's brain began changing the stories canonicaly, without him noticing, since they are literaly inside it ( exact same way Simon's desires manifested for real)
OR
-Those never happened and Ice king simply retold the stories that came from the red beam to be the way he wanted.
I lean towards the latter theory. That's why when everyone starts talking about him, the dialog suddenly becomes very stilted and the characters start staring directly into the "camera."
They definitely seem just based on ice kings red beam dreams with the self insert part written in awkwardly. Pretty much the only Fionna and Cake story we know happened for sure without any changes is the one from Fionna and Cake and Fionna with the mummy cuz the old lady presumably picked up the red beam signal.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the stories were reinterpreted through Ice King's madness when he put them on paper
I actually think he did start affecting their world and changing a bit of prismos writing hence the betty statue and then fiona having dreams of an ice prince @@matti.8465
It also affected Fiona in her dreams as she saw this handsome Ice Prince that she may have a crush on paralleling the Ice King where he wrote down the fact that Fiona had a crush on him
I love that we got to see cameos from flapjack Bubble and Captain Knuckles from the misadventures of Flapjack
Yeah, I wasn't expecting that at all, but felt great the "Oh, this one already existed" line was good, since Pendleton Ward worked on Flapjack and then went on to create Adventure Time
I think the finale will be that Simon makes a wish on Prismo to have Fionna and Cake's universe be a part of the multiverse, freeing it from his head and getting Prismo off the hook, since he's then making their universe for someone else. Prismo even said at the end of episode 4 that he had an idea, and we saw in the final montage of Come Along With Me that Simon never did get his wish from Prismo, he might still be owed one...
Exactly what'll happen prob
Didn't he already wish for Betty back? It just didn't work.
Or, Prismo dies again, and Simon gets promoted to Wish Master in his place... Much to Scarabs Chagrin.... (And as his first order of business gets to grant Fiona a wish.)
Episode 4 gave me MASSIVE Across the Spiderverse vibes. Fiona and Cake being essentially anomalies, and the Scrab hunting them down like how the Spider society tracks anomalies down. Also, way to donk up Prismo
Prismo is clearly depressed as heck no wonder he fricked up
@@ebty4969 he is clearly taking jakes death about as well as finn is
Across the Spiderverse fan watching more multiverse stories: "This is giving me Spiderverse vibes"
It screams a bit to Sliders/Rick and Morty to me (especially with the remote).
Fitting, since Adventure time got into the multiverse stuff way earlier amongst popular shows.
I thought Fiona’s situation is akin to the feelings of being adrift a lot of millennials and up feel. They aren’t happy with their lives and want things to be better, but lack the means to do so.
Everyone has the ability to, it’s that some people either don’t have the strength of will or are too afraid of failure. You look at success stories and it’s always full of people from humble beginnings being too obsessive, stubborn or both. Simon could feel less lonely if he tried, Fiona has a large group of friends that are willing to help but she’s too lost in her head to have a focused goal.
@@Broomer52 oh sure let me risk getting homeless real quick
@@Broomer52this topic isnt as cut and dry as your wishful thinking believes.
@@FerretyZebra exactly
@@Overlord_Destro it’s not wishful thinking but I do agree I oversimplified it
I think it's interesting how Prismo seems to be the 'creator' of Fiona and Cake, leaving Ice King as an unwitting host to their endeavors.
And yet if you look deeper, you notice that he has a *lot* more influence on their world than you'd think - with his very state of existence changing how they live and behave.
I think maybe in some future episodes, we'll get into the details of how Prismo's initial influence and Ice King/Simon's influence differ, and how much of the latter is important to the nature of Fiona and Cake.
Ice King/Simon definitively influenced Fiona and Cake universe. Given the circonstance it is not that bad as a result.
I love that they turned the red beam gag into a really neat piece of lore. That's SO adventure time of them lol
I don't think the crown and Ice King is the solution they need to fix Fionna and Cake's world.
Their world is influenced by Simon's subconscious. The only true way to fix their world is... to give Simon therapy and help him rediscover his desire to live.
Oooh, nice theory. I can see it.
Or maybe have prismo travel Simon back to the time before he became the ice king. That way he could reunite with Betty and belong in society.
That does sound nice, but if time flows at the same rate in Fiona's universe, as it does on Ooo (which it seems may be the case given the statue of Betty in the Fionaverse), that might mean Fiona's universe may be very short lived, given Simon's mortal lifespan.
@@necro_nancyWAIT. WAIT. In the shows in intro, there's a shot of finnoas appertment on fire, so what if simon dies in the show!
HOLY CRAP I just had another thought, what if they'll need the ice crown to revive him.
Can't believe Vox got a heads up on the episodes to come also Prismo creating the whole world is something I didn't expect
What if every movie, comic, manga, cartoon, book, whatever is actually an “unauthorized” universe put upon us by a greater force. THIS IS INSANE!
Cosmic imagination my friend 😅
Even if fionna and cake were able to stay in ooo , I’m pretty sure their existence in ooo (Finn and Jake’s universe) would mess things up.
I wonder that’s why the land of Ooo became a barren wasteland aka Shermy and Beth’s world after Finn’s Death.
@@ideamediaanalysis8737I mean, it feels like a cycle, the world was full of life before the mushroom war, then it was a barren wasteland, became full of life again as Ooo, and then it became a barren wasteland that's coming to life again as Beth and Shermy's world
You can kinda see how cake touching thing "reverts" them to his original non magical state, (the sausage guard becomes just a normal suasage)
So if I had to guess, that means that the mere presence of Fionna and Cake are gonna "get rid of all the magic" of the world of Ooo if they stay for too long.
When Scarab goes through his files of badies to catch, he passed on Finn's dad file. That guy is flipping 2 birds on his mugshot and honestly... That's completely in character.
I think if Fiona and Cake are brought in it validates some bit of Ice King thematically, I think Simon to be happy is gonna have to accept the part of himself that is Ice King
This is true when you think about it, since at this point, he's been the Ice King **significantly** longer then he's been Simon, so it's as much of (if not more of) his identity then his role as Simon. Plus, as the series mentioned, despite Ice King being "insane" he was still happy (And far happier then he was now), and in fairness had mellowed out over the course of the series.
I personally think it would be better for Simon to return to being the Ice King, since even after many years, Simon's never found where he belongs in Ooo (He's a normal 20th century human, in an era where that concept just doesn't exist anymore)
@@cdagaming575 I don't think he needs to become the Ice King persona, just accept the more wild parts of himself, Ice Kings personality must still have come from a part of him and I think he needs to accept the good parts of that.
@@omalleycaboose5937And give up searching for Betty? We don’t know if she’s still alive or not.
@@Mrcharles. Why can't he accept himself and continue to search?
Such a gag that Fiona and cake were made up by prismo. When that red bean was revealed to be prismo gagged me so hard cause I was thinking bout that when watching the episode.
The ice prince just might be a throw out of what ice king will then evolve to, if they manage to find a non wish locked crown, it might be able to bring back the ice king but Simon allowed more control over it
This feels so sad, Simon is so lost & depressed that he'd rather be Ice King again jist so he doesn't have to feel anything again😢
I think it's more so that he just wants something to relate to again. Betty's gone, and every human is still just surrounded by magic or future tech (Where Simon just sticks out).
For Simon, there isn't anything left that anchors him to his old life being a 20th century human, while as Ice King even if he was "insane" he was still happy and served a part in Ooo.
@@cdagaming575 i find it very weird that the show seems to make ice king to be a better version of simon. sure, simon was "happy" as ice king, but idk- there's something about that message that really bothers me, idk why.
@@larrytherustyboii7442same, like cake straight up called simon a loservand that Ice King was more fun than him and that was so messed up
@@shadowki5687 dude legit kidnaps women and tries to force them into marrying him, when he's not harassing royal women (or women in general) he's harassing finn with whatever it is that brings him to them (the horse thing lol). wait i just now remembered that the guy legit stole body parts from all the princesses (well some) and shoved them together to make his own princess and said he's more fun. Im fairly certain that simon actually killed people after leaving marcey and fully merging into the ice king.
I personally think the show is building up to a sort of mix of both worlds ending, like he needs some sanity but also the magic to belong.
Can we talk about flapjack being an adventure time Alternative reality.
Episode 4 may be my favorite Fionna and Cake episode yet. I’m excited!
Can we talk about Jake's wish for an universe where him and finn will stay young and live adventures forever ? That was so cute damn
It was kind of fun when Prismo said that something was wrong with Cakes voice and that she was off model. It feels like it was aimed at part of the audience
I knew it was some entity I definitely remembered the red laser and it looked like the same magic the enchiridion used to get to prismo. And escapism is a good subject for us adults binge watching cartoons and games instead of embracing life. I'm as guilty as the next person. I'm glad they're exploring this aspect.
I checked and Fiona and Cake were introduced back in season 3 and Prizmo came in at 5.
This can imply Prizmo knew of Finn and Jake's existence for a while and made their counterparts sometime before the events in that season 3 episode.
See, this is why I subbed here. Vox, my man, you actually remembered the red crystal. I have watched atleast 5 other videos theorizing around this show, yet only you remembered that detail.
This reveal blew my mind
i found ice king just taking a laser right through his eye and being all for it, like not even being phased by the burning of his eyeball
Ice King may have not created fionna and cake but he still created the books and wrote the stories
5:34 not just a tv show in his perspective, but he actually is watching an alternate universe, i believe. why? it's because prismo explained about how multiverse work in this show, while he also revealed fionna and cake's universe is at the unauthorized side, with no intertwining crossover of some sort. much like our theory of multiverse where our thinking of choices might conceive endless possibilities. we literally are the same as our alternate selves, but our choices differs us from one another.
another thing is how farmworld ended in something disastrous since they imply that finn and lich are meant to exist, i think
another thing i have in mind at the whole premise of this spin-off: in my theory, either way, if simon wished for a new betty or get his exact betty to come back, it might be a possibility that prismo can't grant him his wish was because all versions of betty became "the one" (get it? jet li movie?), of which magic betty did so. worse case that she became one with glob at the final arc of the main series... which is also another theory that prismo also can't grant the wish the sake of not endangering the whole multiverse once glob and betty separated (which according to the wiki, glob is an embodiment of chaos, and chaos is a no-no)
This episode is a 10/10 the story the lessons the wish to be in a magical world and wants to make my own stories.
this show is so good that im finding it exceedingly difficult to wait for each episode to come by. Like i just wanna watch the next one bro...
I think that Simon’s pursuit of a new crown to become Ice King will bring back Betty Golb. Her wish was to keep Simon safe, so if he is about to put himself in what she deems as harm’s way, I think that she will be forced to return to Ooo to save him
I like How this series makes the world and them more of their own and not just a gender bended version. Everything that was revealed in the latest episode made those series a ton cooler.😁
I love flonna and cake and I'm happy that series was created!
@@mayracordero382 same😃
Adventure Time is mid. It should've stayed dead.
@@leonishikino6873 *Unfortunately for you, history would not see it that way.*
But each to their own I guess...🤷♂️
@luqmanfariswan4024 this was only created because Warner Bros doesn't have anything else worth making so they're relying on nostalgia bait the show
No one is talking about how the bunny lady from S9E12 (Fionna and Cake and Fionna) told us that Fionna and Cake are from an old tv show. It has not been brought up in all the stuff about the new Fionna and cake show on MAX.
This premise is like the allegory of song Everything Stays (I think)
Let's go in the garden
You'll find something waiting
Right there where you left it lying upside down
When you finally find it, you'll see how it's faded
The underside is lighter when you turn it around
Everything stays right where you left it
Everything stays
But it still changes
Ever so slightly, daily and nightly
In little ways, when everything stays...
and we can see what happens to Simon reflects in Fiona's universe, like when he go for a walk after separating from Finn, similar events happened in Fiona's universe.
I find it so funny that scarab captures his targets in tamagachi eggs
The theme of escapism you are talking about is also exactly the debate Simon is having about whether he wants to be ice king
Thiiiiiis is the video I’ve been waiting for 🤩🤩 thank you awestruckvox and roundtable!!!
Honestly my takeaway wasn't that much different. But it was more of "is this really what you wanted?"
And they'll be put into a situation where they'll have to make a hard choice.
Oh my god! That’s not another Fiona and Cake, that’s OUR Fiona and Cake!
That explains Fiona’s dreams. Those were memories…
Simon saying "I need to become the Ice King, again" is one of the only times I have groaned, "noooooooooo...." out loud while watching something.
As a fantastic writer for 6 years going on seven I can definitely understand, and my brother is a graphic artist, and he's finally looking to make his own comic. So far, i'm loving the show and hoping it continues to a second season. There's so many possibilities yet to be explored, and the multi verse theam is just the thing to explore them.
Love your worl and videos guys! They always make my day🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Is Ice King gonna become Ice Prince? I feel like that will happen
What are the odds that we will get a crossover between adventure time and flapjack
I think you are correct about the themes but I would add that more on to the aspect how coping with the situations is also a Central theme.
Furthermore you talked a lot about future seasons so I wonder if that might be hint to something or someplace we haven’t been to in long time.
If every wish is a world then might be one that holds special meaning more so then any other.
I think it might end with Simon becoming magic but not ice king but that's a stretch or maybe he'll wish for Fiona and cake to be a part of the main multiverse
It all started with the marvelous misadventures of flapjack l. The show that Kick Started pendelton ward career
Fin looks alot like his dad. Down to the wink he does and avoiding emotional problems
I think things has gotten very interesting now, can’t wait to see how things goes.
Hey guys, do you think it'd be possible for you guys to make a video about Disenchantment? It just concluded and I doubt I'm the only one who'd like Roundtable theories and breakdowns on it
I word love to see an episode Fionna and cake were the old lady from the episode Fionna and cake and Fionna meet the real Fionna and cake or maybe the actual creator prismo
What if Simon has to go to the universe in his mind in order to protect Fionna and cake
I’m interested in seeing the relationship between Fionna and Cake because I think that this adventure will change them, Cake is especially want to be on her own from what we seen in episode 3 when she was talking to the squirrel 🤔🤔🤔🤔
What was the 1st EVER Piece of Fan Fiction?
I had a feeling that bee and puppy cat had inspired some parts.
I’ve never thought bee and puppycat was a copy of at but they are so similar when i think about it
3:19 So let me guess this straight so Fionna and Cake can't exist but why they came from the book made from Ice King which is Simon but they running from a bounty hunter name is Scarab trying to erase wipe their entire reality. that's just insane.
Scarab guy: Stop being creative, follow the canon or you will be called cringe.
Prismo: no.
I do think Simon could maintain himself assuming he can find a version of the crown where if it was reset like the version in come along with me, but the wish being that Simon needs his magic but with all of his sanity and self awareness being intact. Otherwise the other option is learning magic and having another magical item that gives him magic powers again.
I really feel thatthe creation of Fiona an cake was done by boredom .. Prismo is a lonely individual who creates an alternate universe but end up forget about them.
You have people who think " Yeah Ice king was more happy" ... we have nostalgia but we forget all the episodes where Ice King said how lonely and sad he was . Its not the answer ... Simon want to be ice king for escapism.
Fiona an cake are New to this ...they see the world as a fun park but dont' know how finn and jake had trauma and pain in this magical world
i feel like fionna and cake really did just come from prismo, but maybe im just too high right now
Gosh, I never thought of the way Prismo making the Fionna and Cake universe in that way before.
You know what else this series may explore that was left unanswered, what happened to all of the Litch hands spread across the multiverse.
They are still there. We see an instance of the Lich in Wyatt's world, so they are definitely still out there.
I hope in one of these episodes we see a flash back of how jake truly dies
It's too funny for me that the many theories resulted in everything being a Prismo fanfic.
Witch episode is this
I just can't wait until Finn see them I just want to know how he would react to seeing himself as girl nd how fionna and cake will react too. Also is Finn 30 when we saw him with his long beard and hair I like but I thought he was in his 20s or something. I just can't wait for more episodes
Okay just putting this out there. Feel free to correct me but.
If fionna and cake were not meant to exist because prisms made them 'off the books'. Couldn't Simon simply wish for them to exist so they can become a part of the multiverse? And not have to be chased by a red armer dude.
I mean I'm loving this show so far but I'm just saying. Seems a little weird unless there's something that prevents that type of wish which I don't see how when this is literal about the multiverse of the original show.
It’d be really cool if one of the multiverses they go to or see is Bravest Warriors
This series is great😊
The knowledge that they were originally a 4chan drawing by one of the storyboard artists back in 2010 really contextualizes it for me, and honestly... makes me appreciate it way less.
Lmao imagine Simon about to put the crown and betty gulb just comes and destroys it
And says something like "I gave up my whole life/identity to free you, don't fuck that up"
I just had a big brain thought. Simon had the crown and Betty became magic woman. Betty attained Godhood and can't stay with Simon. Prismo hates his job. What if the finale will have Simon becoming the new wishmaster. Prismo can retire, Simon can have Betty with him, and Fiona can have magic
I am to an adventure time because if no matter what, there is a program on a cartoon network to new episodes every friday!
Holy crap wait a minute. That could be another reason why Prismo wrote the Fiona and Cake story world. What if something happened when Jake died? One of the few people he genuinely called friends. Instead of how Finn grieves, Prismo continued to write and watch Finn, creating Cake almost like a proxy, a way to keep being with his friend… even when he’s no longer around.
he already explained why he made fiona and cake, way before jake past away.
@@larrytherustyboii7442 Probably wayyy before he even meets Finn and Jake since it started in season 3.
"What about downtown?"
"Not familiar."
Fionas world is small now also.
If simon turns to ice king again, then what death said about his only chance of being rid of ice king on Betty episode was true. if he doesn't go with death, he would always be ice king. If he would have died as simon, then betty would probably just be living in ooo mourning simon. Until she finally died and do what Finn did when he died.
Fionna and Cake's state of existance
reminds me of the inhabitants of the Shatterspaces from Sonic Prime
like Fionna struggles with, is she real or just a fan fiction?
same with someone like Nine, is he his own person, or is he just a part of Tails?
Yeah, but can we talk about how they referenced flapjack
I mean. We've know that the stones still belong to ice thing (and one of them to gibon) 1000 years later.
He's got to get the farm world crown 👑😮
Lol it’s funny they show flapjack 🥞 and how it’s part of the adventure time universe 😊
my theory on how the show will end is Fiona using Prismo's wish granting powers to use and making her universe quote on quote "cannon" and having both the magical and mundane universes exist at the same time
This literally popped up a few minutes after i finished the fourth episode
0:06 So Fionna and Cake were the first Adventure Time OCs? Like okay I guess
I need more FIONAA and CAKE and BEE and PUPPYCAT!!!! or a crossover!!!!!
hear me out right I have to disagree with you With Simon staying Simon And it's because of this one crucial bit of information Simon was not in together again, which wouldn't make any sense because he would have been long dead right? which is why I don't think he's going to die.I believe he is going to find some type of way to regain his ice powers along with his immortality And of course there's Fiona's dream at the beginning of the series
Had no idea this existed I must watch it now 😂
Wow took you that long to get this one out got to tell the boss😅
One of the jail sphere in scarab's box looked like guiseppe
I would have rather seen the series be more like the first episode. Also... I feel like this is like a retcon or a totally different series.
1 thing I did love, was getting conformation that flapjack is an alternate universe of adventure time... I literally Wooo'ed out loud... cause that's been a big deal to me.
So what I'm hearing is... Fiona and Cake need to become temp workers? :D
I love Fioona and cake omg i wish i was a Animater im an artist but i want to do animation and Prismo im feeling like his boss is us were whaching.
Poor Simon. Just wanting to live a normal life and maybe with Betty.
(Hope be able to see her again with him, even if it's a quick glance)
Well true but no, they need their world back in magic again if Simon get his Ice King power back to make link as back to balance
