I live in Ironton and I have the 2006 buell blast with 545 miles on it. I like the bike real well. I had a gold wing. With bad knees and being 64 yrs old this was the great choice for me.
Still own two of em. Selling one and keeping one. Will never let it go. Gotta maintain it to appreciate it. Ain’t the best of bikes, but when it works, run it! Yours sounds pretty good actually. Prefer my other xb’s though but will still keep the blast for that apocalyptic moment! 😊
Very nice video with pleasant commentary. Can I assume the exhaust is the stock unit? May be buying a 2001 tomorrow regardless of all the trash talk. If something is different, people either love it or hate it. Best I find out for myself. I welcome challenges anyway. Keep the faith bro. Thanks for posting.
I've had a Buell Blast for a couple of years. Man I road that thing to work every day and it always started up. I finally sold it but boy it did the job. Too bad HD didn't revamp it for a second generation. They could have fitted the 500cc v-twin motor by now.
I know I'll get something else eventually, but I don't see myself getting rid of the Blast. Too much fun! It is too bad they didn't give it another generation.
I have a 2000 p3 and I like mine , I’m building a scrambler from it now after I’ve ridden it for a year , I put a rear bridgstone ax41 duel sport tire 120/90-16 and move the Michelin city grip 120/80-16 I had on rear and moved it to the front
Even if it looks good it can be broken along where the clamps sit. Old rubber likes to crack. Doesn't hurt to pull it off and double check. Also check the vacuum nipple on the back side of the carb close to where the fuel line attaches.
i bought a 2001 buell blast yep very rattly and the gear box clunks allot and its not to powerful but is my first bike and i got it for 200 bucks but i had to retime the cam gears but no big deal it was not easy but i did it. i cleaned the tank out from all the water and cleaned the carb out water in it too . the bike had been sitting outside for 6 months or better so it got water all in the tank but all in all its ok for a beginner bike or just something simple to ride.
For 200 bucks you can't go wrong man! Hell of a buy! Perfect little bike to tear apart and work on too. Congrats on getting it going again, like you said perfect for something simple to cruise on.
The first thing I would check is the carb boot that holds the carb on. Notorious on these for going bad and causing running issues. After that if its still doing it I'd just pull the carb and clean it.
Vance and Hines are crap. Wrap the baffle in a dozen feet of cheep, Chinese muffler tape and hold it tight, on one end, with a couple of those wide, steel electrical ties. That'll hold it...
I noticed a lot of people fan boy over bikes and hate everything that isn't that said bike. I like them all!
Exactly! I could be riding a 50cc moped and have just as much fun as anything else lol.

Love the gold wings. The buell is perfect for running around town. Good to have another local on a Blast!!

Oh, went back and looked closely and see an after market exhaust.

I'd have to test the Street 500, but for the most part the only other bikes that compare would be the GS500, S40, and maybe the Royal Enfield.
Damn, I miss my Blast. Looking for another one now.
Great video. Thanks for doing the review.
Btw, random: u sound like Eugene Porter from the walking dead. Lol.

But where do get brake rotors for 2002 Blast. I'm burning my eyes trying to find them new.
For some reason on craigslist the left peg is always bend on these bikes lol.
Everyone I've seen in person is like that, they really love to fall that way I guess lol.
I just got a 2000 with 5400 miles for $1400 here in Missouri march 2023 , don’t know if I got a great deal or not
I love you, lmao. I feel like I need one of these to play on!
It's nothing like a good v twin but it's half of one and super fun lol. PS those dirt drags looked like a lot of fun.
Impact240sx yeah, i got my electraglide but id like to take one of these and put some dirt tires on and play with.
That would be fun af. I'm already debating boosting the thing.
Oh gosh, now that would be cool!
The more you work on it, the more you will appreciate it.
2018 and still loving the Buell Blast
How do you tell if the boot is bad I had pulled it off before and I couldn't tell if anything was wrong with it

I've been through there coming back from south Carolina I stay in Michigan
Is it a good first bike? I’m also a skinny guy is it heavy?
A fantastic first bike. Only 360 pounds. Not heavy at all for a bike.

Hey man, what is the red bike in front of you?
It's a Sportster 1200 custom
My 2011 sporty and 02 electa glide both threw false neutrals all the time it’s a Harley thing
I have a 2004 buell blast I bought a year ago with only 4,000 miles but haven't got to ride it yet wont throttle up without dying what do you think.

Mathew Tschetter
Check carb and for vacuum leaks. Look at the plug, it will show if its running lean.
Bike has a nice sound.
marcel marguleaux thanks! I love the way the single cylinder sounds.
Do you need a motor cycle license for this 500cc
I'm not sure about where you are but where I am in Ohio you do.
