If I wanted a totally different sounding band, I’d go listen to a totally different sounding band. So I will. Geez I hope Metallica do an infused Jazz record. That would be sick. With eyeliner of course.
This one I really liked. The whole early 2000s sound and noise, heavily inspired by Deftones, Muse and Industrial Rock is visceral. Although Dark Pool is a gem that is hard to surpass. Hopefuly they can make something unique in this path, just like Loathe with their Deftones vibes. Thornhill never loses their mesmering and haunting sound.
I really really really really really REALLY enjoyed this! As a Loathe and Sleep Token fanboy, this evolution of the Deftones shoegazy metal is something I thoroughly look forward to. The slow build up, the ambiance, the mesmerizing vocals… what’s not to love? I don’t feel this is a bigger departure for them than BMTH did with their most recent single… (now THAT’s a departure… whew…). My feelings are about that questions are, if you’re going to make a complete 180 that’s patently off brand - do it under a different name. This way no one is confused and the right audience will find it
I agree completely. BMTH are too far gone I reckon. Have you heard Cherry? Awesome side project of Jacob and Matt. I like it. I also love Loathe and Sleep Token and that direction. I'd like more of a Radiohead influence (Ethan loves) to shine rather than Muse but hey a lot of it is in Jacobs voice that wasn't apparent I'm TDP. I like Arkangel better than Casanova also because there is more emotion. I'm just hoping Casanova was a one off fun sounding track like Nurture was on TDP. I do feel like Jacob prefers to sing more "shiny" now and that's cool to mix sad and joyful waves. TDP was a frigging masterpiece tho.
I have a feeling this song is gonna lead into the next single they drop, and I'm loving it. The Dark Pool is a hard album to follow up on, so I'm excited to see what this new album brings to the table. Makes me wanna watch "Queen of the Damned" with the vibes it gives
I actually find Casanova to be a bit more up my alley but it's because of the more cheer-y mood it gives off, I think Both of the singles are very.... sexy, actually. Gay sex music, 10/10, love it, very hyped for the album
Casanova actually grew on me. Even though The Dark Pool is one of the most beautiful and best albums I ever heard imo. I hope this grows on me too. I just don't get why they buried the vocals that hard in the mix... Anyway... Thornhill is still one of the most creative bands out there
I wasn’t a big fan of Thornhill before, but I’m loving these two new songs. And now it’s making me like the old stuff too, but these new singles are so much better.
I don't mind either single, but it seems like they write a groove and just go, hey let's make a song around that. They don't seem that inspired to me instrument wise. It's strange, it's like it's centered around how airy and open it is with the vocals, but then they pull the vocals down. It's just very strange to me
Honestly I always thought they were a very atmospheric band and would say they've always had some footing in the deftones/shoegaze style. Obviously this song has some differences but didn't seem like too far for a normal band going from album to album, at least in how I heard it. Casanova was definitely more different though.
Like I've straight up gotten into the shoegaze/Deftones style since TDP (which I loved) and have always given credit to it for making my way into that subgenre lol, shows what I know of my styles
Very interesting sound from Thornhill, keen to see what they bring out. I gotta say, but check out the Light Bends Album by Melbournes own Pridelands. Similar to TDP Thornhill, mised in with a bunch of Northlane - the Album is absolute killer and every song really stands out on it's own.
about the vocals being drowned in the mix, the youtube version unfortunately has pretty bad quality, vocals are much more pronounced on streaming in my opinion
I absolutely fucking love this song. Still has the signature guitar tone we all love, Jacobs vocals fit perfectly, the insane drums are still their. Its still Thornhill but so different I love it.
You can defo tell that this song was mixed by George Lever he has a very distinct style of production. I like this song better then Casonova especially the vocals. Doesn't come close to Darkpool but it's still good. Always respect bands who change their style.
He doesn’t need fx, but the aesthetic and the vibe of the song does, that’s how music production works. Without all the vocal fx the song would be pretty plain and boring.
Eh. I didn't like Casanova at all. This one sounds a little better, but is still way below the level of any song from The Dark Pool. I genuinely don't get why the vocals are so distorted and radio-like and, in this specific song, the instruments cover the voice too much.
@remzar the fact that I do not like the newer songs does not imply that I'm hating on them or that I do not respect their new direction: they are absolutely free to do whatever they want, as it's their art, not mine. They have their right, as I have the right to want more songs sounding like TDP. Chill
I really did not like Casanova or this new song. I got to know Thornhill with The Dark Pool, which is one of the best metal experiences i've ever listened and was hoping for an evolution of that style. This however sounds so noisy and distorted, it doesn't have that "cosmic" and mysterious feel that really hooked me on their previous album.
I hate the situation when artist is held like a hostage by his fans. Dark Pool is amazing, but it should be left behind. The new sound is great, the mix on this track is cool. The good thing about Thornhill is the fact that all the influences don't turn them in rip-off of any band. Let's take Loathe for example. I love what they are doing, but all the major hits sound like total Deftones rip-off. Thornhill always has their own original sound and vibe. I really hope this guys could make it to Europe soon.
Nobody is holding them hostage. They've gone in a different direction and fans are allowed to voice their opinions. I'm disappointed in the direction they're going, I can't help having that feeling. Good luck to them, but it's certainly not for me.
This song gave me massive Loathe vibes with the toned down guitars and the effects on the vocals and I really liked it a lot. Way better than Casanova.
I too understand the apprehension that a lot of people feel about their direction but you can’t blame a band for changing their vision on their music, and if you love their old stuff more, it’s still online so don’t complain and listen to it.
The Dark Pool is a top 5 album of all time for me. Casanova absolutely sucked in my opinion. If they’re going for this kind of sound, then we need more songs like this one. This was much better than Casanova. The ending gave me extreme Karnivool vibes (The Caudal Lure specifically). Hopefully the next single will win me over. It was good, not great.
Feels like they've just filmed on the set of The Crow. Deftones vibes through and through obviously. With riffs chopping through sounding a lot like Loathe.
I have a feeling that they're experimenting with different vibes and styles, given how different this and Casanova sound. I love both so I'm anticipating what comes next for them
I was a monster fan of Butterfly and the darkpool. The music writing, technicality, mixing is absolutely next level. The way they write music on both those albums, especially the dark pool, is top tier and mind blowing to me as a song writer. This to me just doesn’t have that. The last two singles have generic guitar riffs that don’t catch my attention other than a few non original zeros. The tone is so base heavy I’m not even sure other strings are used. The vocals are so far back in the mix I can understand Eddie vedder better. And it mainly just sounds like they kept the ambient sounds they used to have, stoped all the heavy and added muse and deftones sounds in with power/bar chords. It doesn’t have the magic and honestly just really disappoints me. Where are the riffs? Wheres the heavy?
I’ve been thinking about that these past months, I totally agree with that! Just listen to the last year/month releases from Spiritbox, Sleep Token, etc, they are bringing back all those catchy (and easy) riffs, all about the groove and not too much complexity.
The Dark Pool is one of my favorite metalcore albums ever I don't know why they would abandon that subgenre and sound completely. This isn't bad I guess but its not for me AT ALL, especially compared to masterpiece songs like Red Summer and Lily & The Moon.
Maybe because bands don’t like being boxed into one particular thing? Music is about the emotion and evolution. You can tell from the butterfly EP To this. If you gotta say “it isn’t bad I guess” then go listen to dark pool on repeat. We move forward around here
@@dahc0023 That's the excuse every fanboy makes when bands change their sound. If you genuinely like the direction they are taking, then more power to you, it just sucks for the fans who started following because of their previous work
@@levianderson5744 it’s more so that I can appreciate the change with them still implementing the thornhill elements. (Instrumentation, atmospheric elements) doesn’t mean I like this stuff more. Just means new music to me. People liked Thornhill for being different. They sticking to it.
Cassanova was a steaming pile of cow feces. This one's actually damn good (especially seeing as my expectation weren't too high after Cassanova), definitely got a My Ticket Home/Deftones vibe with a sprinkle of Loathe in spots.
For me its pretty black and white. If its still in the rock/metal genre I won't complain even if a band is being really experimental, I give bands props for trying new things. But as soon as a rock/metal band goes pop that's where I draw the line. That may sound selfish but as a rock/metal fan, our genre struggles too much to stay popular to have amazing bands go pop, which is also pretty much always pop that's been done before. Now I just recently became a Thornhill fan so I can't speak for OG fans but I like the progression of their sound, its a nice mix of old and new sound.

I feel like it's something a lot of people aren't going to like but it'll grow on you after a few listens through. It's nothing special. Good but not great. Everyone was craving for more of that sound on TDP... and we're not getting it. Artists have every right to go in whatever direction they want, but fans also have the right to critique that direction. For me, this direction is disappointing.
TDP was an amazing album, and I totally understand bands change and whatnot, but this just isn’t it. Casanova was woeful, but I was hoping it was a one off. But here I am, another single, and I’m just not feeling it. The vocals don’t seem to match the instrumentals, and the mixing just seems way off (I can barely understand a single word that’s said and this is meant to be clean vocals?) Just not a fan, im really not looking that forward to the album and it’s a shame
I honestly am a prog metal guy, and the Dark Pool is an incredible album. It gives me a lot of TesseracT vibes. But Im also really fucking with the new Thornhill as well :)
The Dark Pool got me onto them. Absolute banger & groundbreaking album. Progression is good but why in the hell would they completely abandon that sound bar the occasional chug & vocal hint? This is not the Thornhill that hooked me in. Lilly & The Moon, Red Summer & Where We Go When We Die in comparison leaves this track for dead.
If you think back to The Dark Pool, if you take a single track out and listen to it by itself it isn’t anywhere near as good as listening to the album front to back. For example Red Summer without The Haze before it is nothing. I’m hoping the new album flows as The Dark Pool does and I fall in love all over again with a new sounding Thornhill
@@iMattLewis Couldn’t disagree with you more. It’s a filler on the CD that complements the next song. Where We Go When We Die is no more or less of a song with or without Netherplace. It’s nice but it’s not essential. These new songs feel forced & fake to me. Just an opinion. Did they collectively wake up one day & start wearing eyeliner & do a complete 180 with their sound & look or did the powers that be nudge them down that path?
Deftones. This song is lit Af, Deftones should be proud of them. ✨ This is much better then Deftones, Thornhill perfected what was lacking in Deftones music IMO. More songs like that. This gender bending is so well ✅👍👍👍👍
This is my favorite song from thornhill Arkangel goes hard that breakdown slaps it's my song of 2022 I can't stop replaying it it's a banger in my opinion I had on repeat while I was home recovering from covid.
Imo the way the vocals are a little buried kinda add to the psycadelic feel to both their new song Blasting Casanova will tripping balls was quite enjoyable lol
This reminded me a lot of My Ticket Home and their Unreal album. Not bad but what I expected from Thornhill. Was always going to be hard trying to follow up The Dark Pool!
Specifically, the video seems to be super influenced by the movie 'The Crow', which has that broken circular window that is behind them. Great movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. I absolutely love the bold direction by the band to do something really on the edge that they obviously knew would be divisive, but they just went for it. Huge kudos to them
I really like these singles but the problem I have is why are the vocals so quiet? Kind of ruins a first playthrough as I'm sitting there straining to hear the vocals at points
Dark Pool is easily one of my favourite albums of all time and ive gone back through thornhill's work previously and really enjoyed it all. Have to say i can't understand the departure from thier previous sound - the complexity and depth of their sound and songwriting have dissapeared, and i cannot understand the decision to change the vocals. All seems very safe and uninspired. I appreciate some people might prefer the more deftones sound but i really am not a fan. hoping this is an experimental EP rather than a departure from thier sound entirely.
Honestly I am loving this and compared to Casanova I prefer this single more because it gives me that vibe of being in the world of 'The Crow' which the video pays homage to. While I do miss thornhill's old sound. I am super excited for what they have on the horizon because I geniunely love this single and I can't wait to see what else they have in store
Loved everything these guys have done from the 13 EP, limbo and the butterfly ep to these two new single. Arkangel is definitely a top 3 song from them I would say. I really like the mood they settled with this song. Song of the year contender for me personally. Can't wait for this album!
I’ve been hooked on thornhill since I found them. Casanova is one of my favorite songs of the 20’s and with how amazing Arkangel is I am really excited for the new album.
If I wanted another Dark Pool album, I’d just listen to Dark Pool. Bring on the new sound and the new feel
Finally someone gets it!
I personally love this new song, and I think that the vibe of the new album (if there`s one coming) could be really interesting and cool

Did they collectively wake up one day & start wearing eyeliner & do a complete 180 with their sound & look or did the powers that be nudge them down that path?
I feel like this and some songs on the new album could be on the forza horizon game! these are great driving songs
This one is incredible. These guys are too talented.
Clean vocal of jacob is on Cherry, he is a great vocalist tho:(
The video reminds me “One” from Filter, but also this song was written by thornhill’s guitarist inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer opening.
Loving these new tracks.
Deftones. This song is lit Af, Deftones should be proud of them. ✨ This is much better then Deftones, Thornhill perfected what was lacking in Deftones music IMO. More songs like that. This gender bending is so well ✅👍👍👍👍
react underoath full album
Deftones influence in the verse
that remind me the movie The Crow
Shoegaze vibes babyyyy
Deftones vibe
Please do convalescence EP from Glass Crown 🙏🙏🙏
I love it man
🖤
I need them to bring back the “Views From The Sun” and “Coven” vibes. Personally not a fan of these two new tracks thus far.
DEFTONES VIBES 100% thornhill got my heart this time!
This is my favorite song from thornhill Arkangel goes hard that breakdown slaps it's my song of 2022 I can't stop replaying it it's a banger in my opinion I had on repeat while I was home recovering from covid.
I still prefer Casanova over this one, but I'm glad they are changing their style, the dark pool 2 would be boring
More or less a diluted LOATHE…
Even with some of the aesthetic
Imo the way the vocals are a little buried kinda add to the psycadelic feel to both their new song
Blasting Casanova will tripping balls was quite enjoyable lol
This reminded me a lot of My Ticket Home and their Unreal album. Not bad but what I expected from Thornhill. Was always going to be hard trying to follow up The Dark Pool!
Specifically, the video seems to be super influenced by the movie 'The Crow', which has that broken circular window that is behind them. Great movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. I absolutely love the bold direction by the band to do something really on the edge that they obviously knew would be divisive, but they just went for it. Huge kudos to them
I really like these singles but the problem I have is why are the vocals so quiet? Kind of ruins a first playthrough as I'm sitting there straining to hear the vocals at points
dude why did hypnosis get removed, favorite vocal video on utube
Could have sworn I was listening to a new Deftones single. I’m here for it.
Honestly this sounds more like something off Butterfly mixed in with new stuff
Listening to this, I get taken through Gotham. It makes me think of the batman, or batman in general. It seemed like a track that would be a good fit.
This realllyyy gives me old Deftones vibes.
