    Nice work! I like watching you wire. Make it look so easy. So now the dog and the duck are trying to show you how it's done Eh?! They want all the credit for your work! I bet they are working together too... Sneaky bastards.... Actually, if you get some duckweed or other cheap plants for the pond, the Koi and Howard could probably use some fresh greens. I don't have many indoor tanks anymore, but I use to give the koi and goldfish lots of duckweed when I clean the tanks. The wild ducks loved it too. Now I chop up baby spinach for them once in a while. They have lots of minnows to eat in there, the koi love those too.

    A good scrubber ! The expression has another meaning haha. I really love Yew’s especially ones with a lot of deadwood, your styling is as good at it gets,, I have a Yew a little bigger than yours, the styling of mine is more natural style than yours, not better just different, there is room for many styles, I really should have repotted mine this year but I think I have missed the boat unless you think it would be safe to do it now Ryan ? Joe

    • @houghtonbonsai
      @houghtonbonsai  4 місяці тому

      lol Joe , I know what you mean haha. I love a lot of deadwood on yews too. If the buds have just start to swell on your yew you will be good to repot m8 as they should be repotted early spring just as the buds are starting to swell 😉

    How do you deal with Taxus needles turning brown, quite a bit of brown. It's in the middle of the night right now, so I can't check to see if there are any new buds, but I will check in the morning.

    • @Yurup
      @Yurup 4 місяці тому +1

      Thats quite a general question but usually its either over or underwatering. What kind of soil is it in and how wet does it stay?

    • @maryweber4176
      @maryweber4176 4 місяці тому +1

      @@Yurup It's still in it's nursery pot, with nursery soil. I have only added some wire last year, and that's all I have done. There are some buds I've located today.

    • @houghtonbonsai
      @houghtonbonsai  4 місяці тому

      Yurup hit the nail on the head there, but some yews get a brown tinge from the winter, winter burn it should be ok when your new buds pop but i would have had it out of the nursery soil and it to a good draining mix

  • @marktaylor7125

    Can I repot a yew now in April? Also I have let my oak go and it needs some hard reshaping when can I do that, I read in winter because of the beetle that transmits a mikdew in summer. Would you kindly look at a pic of my 8 year old oak if I sent some and give me some advice on yow hard I can cut back.

    • @houghtonbonsai
      @houghtonbonsai  4 місяці тому

      I just re-potted that yew the other day, its early spring just as the buds swell is the best time for yew re-pot, i would wire and shape my oak in winter or as it just comes into bud (about now) so you can see the structure of the tree. Never heard of this I read in winter because of the beetle that transmits a mikdew in summer. you can if you want just e-mail some pics ;)
