In this episode in our series of bonsai techniques we will be covering the purpose of sacrificial branch growth. The main purpose of sacrificial branch growing is to gain cellular growth in the areas near the branch itself. It can serve two functions, 1) to gain girth like to thicken a trunk and/or 2) to help close up big wounds.
