you just changed everything for me with that work sharp, never seen one before. i'm pretty low budget and now i see i can get a belt sander i can afford? hell yeah! AND i just got a BK2 yesterday. you just made my day, thanks man!
Excellent tutorial. I've got the worksharp, and a bk2, and I've always been worried about putting them together. Every time I used the worksharp, it just dulled the knives even more. I used these directions, and that thing is a RAZOR now, and tough as nails. Top notch instructions!!,!
I know this is an old video, but I just have a few questions: -what grits do you use (I only heard the first 80 grit)? -what do you set the angle to for the Work Sharp? 20? -does this work the same with the KO Work Sharp version?
I absolutely love my BK2... Recently purchased a great leather sheath from Skystorm, replaced the scales with Micarta, stripped the coating off and gave it a real nice petina. This is by far my absolute favorite knife. I beat the crap out of this thing and it continues to perform.
One tip I can give you Adam or anyone that owns the WorkSharp, is that I have found after the 220 belt it will leave a wire edge, but if you run the edge across some hardwood a few times with a little pressure it will remove it.
howdy, i got a work-sharp on your recommendation about a year back....and it is outstanding....i did the same thing on my bk....and everything else......what is great is that the work sharp even handles my leather working knives...like my head knife or skive-scissors....
Thank you for the explanations. I have been using knives a lot for almost 30 years in the woods and in the military and never knew there was a difference between sharp and "sharp". Thanks again.
Guys, I just bought one of these work sharps and must say any person into knives isn't a knife person without one. I am good with stone but this "butter" ever time! OH and the best park is it's easy and super fast.
I just got a worksharp and even though I pull up at the end of the stroke, I end up rounding all my tips. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any advice?
I always round the tip of the blade a little bit when using the WorkSharp, how can I avoid that problem? The tip on your bk2 doesnt look rounded at all, so it must be me doing something wrong..
ok mate, you can have your convexed blade start of with the same angle as your 'V' grind. if the angle the blade starts at is the same the angle of the egde will be the same and should be just as sharp and stronge. then after the very edge you can drop the angle and convex it to stream line in order to maximise performane. Oddly I just posted a vid where I talk about how and why I put differen't convexs on differen't parts of my large woods knife to maximise its performance.
So when you put on the final edge to the knife was there a reason that sparks didn't fly off the blade? Was it just because of the fine texture of the strap
I would like to see a video of doing this with a belt sander if you could! Also could I do this to my bear grylls ultimate survival knife and take off the crapy serrations?
Hi Adam - Nice video but I have a few questions: 1.)What were the grits you used, I didn't hear after the first 80 grit belt. 2.) What angle attachment was used? 3.)Is this going to compromise the chopping and baton strength of the knife? That blade is really meant more for that, as opposed to shaving hair, after all. Thanks, Kevin
Im no expert but might be able to help on #3 This shouldn't compromise chopping or batoning, it should actually help in both of those areas. Or a convex grind would anyway, it produces a stronger edge with less drag for both those areas you mentioned. I am however a little confused by this video because I thought we were going to see a convex grind. There is probably something I dont know about that work sharp but traditionally this technique wouldn't produce a convex grind...
Master Series is Kabar's designation for their knives that are not traditional kabar designs and done by those that do not work strictly for Kabar....Becker, Johnson, Dozier...ect.
now that you have had the BK2 and the BK17, which would you prefer, I know they are slightly different, but i can only afford one. What do you suggest?
i like that knife alot im new to the knife scene i want something like the bk2 but smaller for work any ideas on something similar or anyone who can cut down the blade on a bk2
Ive been looking for a knife that can pretty much do it all. Everything from being sharp enough to clean game to having a strong blade for chopping at wood. Is there anything you would recomend?
hello just watch the video, enjoyed it very much I just got myself up bk2 and was basically wondering what sharpening stone or what method you would recommend to get the best edge? I stripped off all of the factory black paint or coating got it down to the bare metal and started with a 150 grit sandpaper and work my way up to a 600. Not sure if I have to go a lot higher than that that's all
I use the lansky guided diamond stones and I love them. I have been looking at one of these Work Sharps. Anyone with personal experience as they compare to the Lansky systems?
look for some blade that are 3/16 thick anything bigger like an esee5 or bk2 is to big for cleaning game but can still be used to baton well and chope and the blade leneth aging cant be to long maybe between a 5 to 6 at the biggest the shorter blade for again the cleaning game but you are limited to what you can baton but there are ways of getting around that, hope this helped youu to narrow it down.
Hey Adam Couple year subscriber and i had a question, i was wacking a 2 by 4 and there was a nail in it and didn't realize it and it did quite a number on the edge about 2 cm long kinda rolled i dont want to say chipped but how would i go about repairing that, Thanks.
Hey I know its not a fix blade but I have an Ontario rat 1 and wanted to know what kinda edge does it come with. I can't get it hair popping sharp just like a dull sharp and it will cut food and boxes and ropes no problem for a long time but I can't seem to get any sharper. Any ideas?
Hey Adam I have a ? & know that you're the one to ask. You are costing me $ btw sk5 wrk sharp now the bk2 lol but I just got my bk2 2day & I got the master series is that any different than say the regular one? I see the lettering is silver rather than laser etched black so Idk but Ik you do lol thanks pal
would using the worksharp always put a convex edge on knives? I use a Lansky sharpening system would using this put the same type edge on all my knives so to speak?
Any belt grinder with a slackened belt will put a convex edge on a knife. Sandpaper on mouseoad works aswell. Its hard but not impossible on a Lansky and you would have yo use the stones manually without a guide and the. put a microbevel on the edge. Its been done. I recommend using the diamond stones.
He didn't teach you how to convex, he just used a machine that automatically puts on a convex. Using the Work Sharp's guides you don't have to worry about angles and it automatically puts on a convex. If you don't have a Work Sharp, like most of us, you can try the mouse pad and sandpaper method. or buy a cheap belt grinder- $40.
If you aren't damaging the coating then you're not getting all the use that this knife has to offer. I bought mine so I could have a knife that I can beat to death and know it won't fail me or break.
.A true full convex grind is an axe grind which when done completely on a slack belt, has poor geometry for a knife blade. It's just too thick behind the edge. You can flaten out the convex by grinding on the rotary platen. My preference is to flat grind then finish on the rotary platen. My grinds are more flat then convex being 75 to 80 percent flat and 20 to 25 percent convex. This gives better grind geometry along with strength of a convex contour.
You can maintain in the field with an emory stick (or emory cloth on a soft surface) from the local drugstore. The emory stick are the same ones your wife uses on her finger nails to smooth them. Learned this in the army from an old timer. The more flexable they are, the better.
the work sharp is nice but u can get a 1x30 belt sander from hrbor freight for 40 buck that will give u a lot more options and the belts are only like a dollar.
When it comes to the BK Becker coating take it off you'll like it much better the knife cut so much easier than what that stupid coating on you always should oil your knives or I use lard multiple reasons 1 it protects the blade
O ok cool thank you for your time pal I really do appreciate it 4real thanks I just was making sure b4 I opened it up & go to town on the sheath. That I didnt have a special one lol but thanks again
but any way thanks a lot and remerber les stroud is comming back to discovery august 19 sunday just thought since you give so many people good tips it thought id remind you august 19 sunday les stroud discovery chanel
I've owned this sharpener for years. And I've got the knives with rounded tips to prove it. I still go back and watch instructional vids and re-read directions over and over. The sad truth is that if you don't stand on your head, on a blue moon, hold your upper lip just right, stand on one leg, hop three times while whistling Dixie, you are gonna ruin some knives. Bottom line. Major bummer, I really wanted this thing to work for me.
Hopefully, in the last eight years, you’ve realized how STUPID it is to ruin the bevels that way. Convex edges are meant for chopping blades, NOT for all-purpose blades like the BK2. The saber grind it has is better for multiple cutting uses. But hey, whatever. It’s YOUR money to waste.
This video should be called how to put a secondary convex bevel on your BK2 not how to convex a BK2. That BK2 still has a saber grind...it's not convex.
I just hate sharpening knives with machines. Ok....it is really easy and really fast, but it is quite expencive. I just got some small sharpening stones, and i can get the bk2 just as sharp in the wild with just 2 stones. Better to learn to do it properly with stones first....and then if you get lacy buy this machine.
Wow...disturbing ad at the start... Mail order russian brides? really? that's what it looked like anyway. said.." 1000 Russian Girls" is that porn? Yikes
Of all of the experts and reviewers on UA-cam, I find you to have the best intelligent info. Well Done Brother...
you just changed everything for me with that work sharp, never seen one before. i'm pretty low budget and now i see i can get a belt sander i can afford? hell yeah! AND i just got a BK2 yesterday. you just made my day, thanks man!
I purchased the Work Sharp because of your recomendations. And I aggree is it a great tool.
Excellent tutorial. I've got the worksharp, and a bk2, and I've always been worried about putting them together. Every time I used the worksharp, it just dulled the knives even more. I used these directions, and that thing is a RAZOR now, and tough as nails. Top notch instructions!!,!

thanks adam i think i was definitely one of the persistent ones waiting for this vid good job
Those work sharps sure do save a lot of time. -Chris
We just mailed it out yesterday.

So does the Worksharp give every knife a convex edge then?
ok mate, you can have your convexed blade start of with the same angle as your 'V' grind. if the angle the blade starts at is the same the angle of the egde will be the same and should be just as sharp and stronge. then after the very edge you can drop the angle and convex it to stream line in order to maximise performane. Another great teaching video. Thanks Adam!!
is this work sharp so just for convex or also for scany / flat grind ?
I would like to see a video of doing this with a belt sander if you could! Also could I do this to my bear grylls ultimate survival knife and take off the crapy serrations?
awesome video.
hey Adam, what's the sharpener you are using??
thanks
Hi Adam - Nice video but I have a few questions:

3.)Is this going to compromise the chopping and baton strength of the knife? That blade is really meant more for that, as opposed to shaving hair, after all.

Is he using the guides to get a 50 degree inclusive bevel?
Adam, you should be a salesman for worksharp... I am going to have to get one
Hi Adam, Where can I get that machine and how much do they go for? I really need to do something about my BK2. Great video BTW
Can you sharpen Mora knives on it? And do you use the outdoor knife attachment for it?
Im no expert but might be able to help on #3 This shouldn't compromise chopping or batoning, it should actually help in both of those areas. Do you apply torque on towards every belt? I just bought the knife and the work sharp system! Thanks, Adam.
Thanks for the input
i like that knife alot im new to the knife scene i want something like the bk2 but smaller for work any ideas on something similar or anyone who can cut down the blade on a bk2
do you think if i convect my esee5 it would perform even better?

Thank you very much. I can't wait to recieve it.

Thanks for the vid, Adam. Did you use the 20 degree or 25 degree guide?

THAT IS THE FASTEST SHARPENING EVER!

roman soldier has anyone responded to your query? I've been asking myself the same.
Thanks man!
Whaatt I sharpened mine by hand with a jwaterstome 220 grit 1000 grit and 6000 grit than strop I need one of those.
Thanks. Convex is the way to go.
the work sharp is nice but u can get a 1x30 belt sander from hrbor freight for 40 buck that will give u a lot more options and the belts are only like a dollar.
Great vid
HOW MUCH FOR U TO CONVEX THEM?
man how do you move your hands so fast?
I bet if you just put up a vid of sharp knives cutting through paper, there would be an audience for it.
My D2 ka-bar says now belt sanding... :(
When it comes to the BK Becker coating take it off you'll like it much better the knife cut so much easier than what that stupid coating on you always should oil your knives or I use lard multiple reasons 1 it protects the blade
Good Video Sir 👍
I just got a worksharp. and I own a bk2. now to get brave enough to run it through the worksharo. lol, I'm afraid im gonna ruin it.
I think my sharpmaker is going on craigslist!
I did a video on "what is the best survival knife". Check it out, maybe it will be helpful. Thanks for watching
-Adam
thanks adam
O ok cool thank you for your time pal I really do appreciate it 4real thanks I just was making sure b4 I opened it up & go to town on the sheath. That I didnt have a special one lol but thanks again
Your gonna have to move the edge past the "chip." This is going to remove a lot of metal, but it's what you gotta do.
No estas demostrando como se afila el kabar estas mostrando como funciona tu maquinita.......
9:37 butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could you do mine
Now this just makes me mad lol. I can’t get my Becker 2 to cut paper, or shave, and i have a worksharp. Dangit Not sure about my grit though
just takes a bit of practice try not to apply downward pressure and don't allow the tip of the knife to slide down at the end of the stroke
but any way thanks a lot and remerber les stroud is comming back to discovery august 19 sunday just thought since you give so many people good tips it thought id remind you august 19 sunday les stroud discovery chanel

According to the work sharp instruction manual you should not be using the 80 grit belt on knives.
adam it cj wheres my paracord 1000 foot
That's perfect, but i don't own a machine like yours to sharpen my knife razor sharp.
:'(
Q-How do you fly a plane Adam?
A-This is how- use auto pilot.
With a BK2, all your base are belong to us.
look adam im sorry i thought somebody had got it sent to their adress
WHY AM I HERE
This video should be called how to put a secondary convex bevel on your BK2 not how to convex a BK2. That BK2 still has a saber grind...it's not convex.
