Did you just spin cam over a couple of times to keep lifters up so you can swap cam ?

yes we always spin them and couple times and have the other cam ready to go in so as soon as one comes out the other goes right in so that way it doesn't allow time for lifters to fall

Did you just mark the timing chain and there was no need to remove the oil pump in this case? Looking into installing a drop in cam for my 5.7 but I am trying to learn how to do it myself

you dont have to pull off the oil pump if you are very careful to make sure timing chain gets back onto crank gear properly
